Summary: It's Great! Too Great to Hate!
Review: Jim Henson, creator of the muppets, creates a film about goblins and a world of imagination. David Bowie stars as The Goblin King, an evil king who slaves (including Goblins) work for. Jennifer Connelly (Higher Learning) plays Sarah, a frustrated teen baby-sitting her little brother, who, after reading her favorite book, "Labyrinth", asks the Goblins to come take her little brother away. When they do, the Goblin King comes and tells Sarah if she wants her little brother back, she has to go his castle, through his labyrinth, a place of mazes and adventures, where she befriends goblins and creatures. This movie is great for anybody. I remember seeing this at the movies when I was 8 and own the video and DVD. It's just too excellent to hate.

Summary: How do you describe perfection?
Review: Labyrinth. The very word brings a smile to my face. After watching this movie you will feel happy as well, and probably a little sadness. But what is one without the other?

Sarah, a teenager bored with her mundane life, lives in her own fantasy world. But when one of her fantasys comes to life, and she is face to face with the beautiful and frightening goblin king, is it really all she wished for? Can she solve the Labyrinth, save her little brother, and get home... and if she reaches the center, will she want to?

I have tried long and hard to think of words to describe this, but I don't think there are any. You can't put it into it's neat little slot. How would you classify it? Childrens movie? It has elements of one perhaps, but look deeper. Muppet movie? No quite there yet... The closest I can get to it is strange and haunting fantasy. It is suitable for all ages and yet it is still entertainment, pure and simple and wonderful. I am deeply in love with this movie, as you probably can tell. While other movies have come and gone as my favorites, this has survived the test of time. Look at the ratings. Are all these wonderful reviews just coincidence... or fate?

If you haven't seen it, you are missing out. Take some time, sit down, get comfy, and open your mind. Once you enter, you may not want to turn back.

Summary: Labyrinth - My Favorite Movie of All Time
Review: Jim Henson and George Lucas are a perfect match for this intriguing fantasy. The film is a masterpiece; a beautiful work of artistry. One of Jim Henson's best! David Bowie is perfect as Jareth, the Goblin King. Throughout the movie you want to hate his character and love him at the same time. Jennifer Connelly portrays a young girl, Sarah, who escapes the world she lives in by reading fairy tales. When she wishes that the Goblin King would come and take her baby brother away, he does. And Sarah must solve labyrinth which leads to the castle beyond the goblin city to rescue her brother from the Goblin King. Never a dull moment.

Summary: David Bowie as he used to be
Review: For people who only know David Bowie via his music in the past 2 decades, the David Bowie in this film may be surprising. However, if you know "The Man who Fell to Earth" and other of his earlier movies "Labyrinth" fits right along side of them. I don't think the special effects are as good as other of Jim Henson's films and the ending is a bit too cheesy and vague for my strongest vote in this venue. The lead actress is a bit mechanical at times but overall gives a strong believable performance as a teen with jealous toward a new sibling and stepmother. I was impressed that what we see at the very beginning of the film is important at various times throughout it; movies need this level of inner complexity more often.

Summary: Very Special
Review: Every so often a movie comes out that defies all the odds and turns out to be something real special. Different genres are represented by at least one movie that makes this grade. eg 'The Matrix' for action sci fi, 'lord of the Rings' for fantasy, 'Saving Private Ryan' for war movies etc. Labyrinth has the distinction of being in this celebrated company, but in which category? It has elements of a musical, puppetry, fantasy and it's a children's and adults genre. This combination, coupled with the amazing voice of David Bowie and puppetry of Jim Henson is part of what makes this movie wonderful viewing. The wacky fantasy storyline has surprisingly found empathy with both adult and child alike. There is subtlety in the movie as well, which will only be obvious to adults and which poses some tantalisingly hidden questions about the movie and the main actor. Somehow this movie just weaves a fantasmical story, which draws you in and is just fun and tantalising, from beginning to end. In my humble opinion, Labyrinth is a classic
