Summary: Why is the entire population of the US and the UK so amazed?
Review: Lets be honest here folks, Harry Bloody Potter. An annoying eleven year old wearing oversized glasses claiming to have special powers. If he has special powers, why does he not fix his sight...which is obviously impaired, seen as he wears those ridiculously oversized frames on his nose that make his look like something out of the Addams family, (only that was a decent movie).
But of course my review is not all about pointless jeering. The acting in the film is not good either, and the guy that plays Harry Potter (I'll be damned if I know his name) seems to spend most of the time in a trance like state, wide eyed, and in awe of yet another seemingly amazing sight...although the all too poor special effects make it hard to be in awe of anything here, except of course for the terrible script.

If you want some good examples of amazing movie making, try anything by Stanley Kubrick, Taxi Driver, Star Wars Trilogy, and anything by Stanley Kubrick. (Yes I realise I typed it twice. It was an attempt at humour, small and suttle, but definatly present).

Summary: waste of great material and talent
Review: I am astounded that somebody can take such great material as Rowlings books and fabulous collection of actors and make just lie there! The special effects were adequate, and I KNOW what the actors were capable of, so who else to blame but the director? This is a film that could have really come alive, been an exciting and spectacular adventure, but instead it is wooden and dull. It is as if the director read crib notes and told everyone "okay, this is the scene where this happens, take your positions, say these lines and for gods sake, don't act, don't so much as modulate your voice or show a facial expression, we will paste it all in later with the animation". What a pity the rest are all being done at the same time, in the same way. If somebody took a good look at this one they would run to find a decent director/producer who had imagination and style and appreciation for the quality of the finished product.

Summary: What a great suprise
Review: I enjoy all types of movies and had heard about harry potter, but I had never read any of the books or followed the harry potter stories. I was happily suprised how fun it was to watch and the movie was so entertaining that I bought the books so that I would be ready for the next movie(s). The story was fun to watch along with the special effects which I thought were superb for the child and the adult. It was more than I expected.

Summary: This Movie is a Defenite Addition to Your Collection
Review: This movie is excellent! It goes hand in hand with the book. The characters are cast to PERFECTION! The special effects are amazing! This movie will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat! I have it and it's a pleasure to watch with the family!

Summary: Awesome movie, can watch it over and over...
Review: I saw this movie in the theater at the 12:01am showing the day it came out. :) I love Harry Potter... I'm not a kid, just a kid at heart. I probably can't say more about this movie than EVERYONE ELSE DID, (although waiting for the next one)...

One thing I will add is that Amazon did a good job on the release and pricing of this movie. I preordered the movie, at what I thought was a reasonable discount. Then, when the movie came out, in many of my local store ads, it appeared for a lower price. I was dissapointed, but figured there was nothing I could do. Low and behold, Amazon came through, and emailed me letting me know that they had reduced the price online, and were giving me a credit on my account. This sorta turned out to be an Amazon review, more than a Harry Potter review, oh well. They did well in my book.

Summary: Stick with the books
Review: I, like most other people who have read the Harry Potter books loved them, their imagination, their unpredictability and their originality. This film however, with the exeption of one or two scenes (such as the very well done quidditch scene), is nowhere near the quality of any of the books, even though some of the actors do in fact look as their characters are meant to, not many of the actors can actually act very well in my opinion and often seem false. Mind you with books like the Harry Potter series, your imagination and the picture you have in your mind will always be much better than what they can show on the screen, therefore stick with the books!

Summary: Okay
Review: This movie would be good---If u were into that sorta thing. I personally don't believe in witchcraft or wizardry, but it was an interesting movie. It's funny at times, and scary at times. It kinda makes me wonder when it's no longer a new release in the rental store---what section it would belong in. All in all, it was okay.

Summary: Entertaining Intro to the Potter Mythos
Review: An 11 year old boy living a banal existence, kept in a cupboard under the stairs by nasty step-caregivers [calling to mind a bit of James and the Giant Peach], learns he is actually the son of accomplished wizards. Traveling to a mystical academy in a pseudo-parallel universe he meets friends, has adventures, and saves the day [Willy Wonka redux?]. Based on the line of successful books, the movie was a nice albeit condensed introduction to the Potter mythos. I felt it was lively, with some great performances by seminal figures in British film/stage. Some of the CG effects were a bit unpolished, like the giant troll or the three headed dog, but they were more than made up for in the sprawling set designs and clever scenery. The hunting around in dank dark attics, or dungeons called to mind the exploring, treasure hunting 'Goonies'. Targeted towards the younger set, it still made for a nice viewing. Wide-screen version, recommended.

Summary: A great movie
Review: This movie was very well done. It had a sensible story and awesmome special effects. The acting was also great. It is one of the most "true to the book" movie based movie that I'd ever seen. The other DVD is cool also. It has tons of extras. My only complaint is, is that it's rediculously long. Man! I wouldn't reccomend this movie to kids who ccan't stay still. May be 10 and up. This is a very well done fantasy film worth noting. Go out and get Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone today!
