Summary: Classic
Review: This is one of the most beautiful, brilliant and under-rated movies of all time! I'm still waiting for the collector's edition to come out.

Summary: Another Mythical Masterpiece
Review: Ahhh, the classic story of good and evil, and this one is mixed with mythical creatures? Yes it's true. This movie is filled with faries, trolls, unicorns, and more. Better yet, this movie is based on evil trying to corrupt innocence.

As Tim Curry plays the Prince of Darkness, he wishes to cover the world in a blanket of misery but cannot because a pair of unicorns keep the world stable. As a beautiful princess named Lily (Mia Sara) frolics in the woods with a simple boy named Jack (Tom Cruise), she runs into the last two unicorns in the world. She wishes to touch them and as she attempts to do so she is kidnapped by trolls and the male unicorn's magical horn is chopped off. The world is covered in misery and the other unicorn begins to die without her soul mate. It is up to Jack to restore good into the world and to save the other unicorn. As he meets up with mythical characters on his way, it is up to you to see whether he can accomplish it or not.

Summary: Masterpiece.
Review: Magic is exactly what this movie wants you to believe in. I have been watching this movie since I was a kid, and was rather surprised that not very many people had heard of this film (Bring it back to the theatre), but I love sharing it with anyone who's willing to watch it. I really believe that this movies costumes, music and effects we ahead of it's time. Everything runs so smoothly, and you can't help but want to look at everything in slow motion just so you can really grasp Mr. Scott's use of balance of good vs. evil. Tim Curry as the Devil is breathtaking and chilling, right down to the hooves. Although Cruise isn't at his best, everyone else makes up for it, especially Gump! If you want a good flick to watch that everyone will enjoy, you can't go wrong with this one. I'm also glad to know that there are others out there who are aware of this wonderful film!

Summary: 2 Soundtracks for the price of one?
Review: I first saw this movie on TV around 1996, I have never seen it at the movies, rented it or owned it on VHS.

Although I'm from Europe, I have only ever seen the American version (the European version was only ever shown upon it's original cinema release, all subsequent versions being the American version).

The first thing that struck me about the movie, was the Tangerine Dream soundtrack, which was incredible (i rushed out and got it on CD that same day!)The TG soundtrack is beautifull and original (the Goldsmith version, although awesome, being your typical American Orchestral movie score).

As for the film itself........Weird! It's like a long, surreal TV commercial for shampoo or hair conditioner, but, where nothing much happens and at a slow pace......that's what makes it so great...it's a chill-out movie!

Tim Curry is incredible as Darkness (The Devil) and wears probably the best mask/costume/prosthetics I have EVER seen!! Evil personified! (including scray glowing eyes).

Personally, I think this movie is a MUST have......get the DVD.....get the Soundtracks and Chill Out!

Summary: release the DVD please
Review: I ordered this DVD the second that I saw that it was going to be released on Jan. 9 2001. We'll it's Feb. 3 and it has been pushed back to some unknown date. I've been searching for the European release of this movie for about 8 years now and am very excited about the idea of actually seeing it in it's intended form. I'm tired of waiting, release it already. Or just send an advanced copy my way so I can stop whining about already. If you're finding this review usful that I'd have to say you're whining too. To all the whiners out there, may you enjoy a fine bottle of wine on your virgin viewing of this Jerry Goldsmith version. Visit me at "iwonderifishouldgrowfacialhair.com"

Summary: Goldsmith music (European release) was so awfull ! ;(
Review: Hi, I worked at this time at Chris Franke's recording studio in Berlin,Germany as a synthesizer technician, when the soundtrack from Tangerine Dream was produced for the LEGEND movie ! I was there, when Chris Franke Franke and the other guys from TD composed and mixed the soundtrack to the VHS SMPTE timecode, the american film director Ridley Scott brought with him. Chris and the other guys did a great job of composing very spherical music to the movie and I fell in love with special parts of the movie, already seeing it, when it was not yet released ! Then came the big boomer ! When the European release started out inside the movie cinemas over here in Berlin, I went to the cinema and was so disappointed by this awfull Jerry Goldsmith music, that it was really a shame to see this movie this way crippled !!!! I did not know the original soundtrack from Goldsmith until then, but it really made the movie such a lot unattractive ! Especially when you were used to see the beautiful spherical synchronisation of sound and vision of the Tangerine Dream production every day in the recording studio ! I never saw the complete original US release of the movie, cause it was never released over here, so I am very delighted to hear now of the introduction of the collector's edition DVD of the LEGEND movie including the Tangerine Dream soundtrack ! I am eagerly awaiting this release to have it in my collection and some memories about this time, when I worked there and seeing it being produced ! So now you can compare for yourself, which music version you will love better ! ;)

Best regards, Stefan Hartmann, Berlin, Germany. harti@harti.com

Summary: Enchanting
Review: I have both versions of the movie,-One with Tangerine dream soundtrack, and the other version which seems to have a lot of parts missing compared to the TD version.(I don't know which is the US). I personally prefered the one with TD. The film as a whole is very underestimated. It is a tale with love, enchantment, courage and a very young Tom Cruise! This isn't for the non-fantasy lovers. Children will love the fairy-tale aspect of it, while older people will admire the amazing sets and beautiful sceneary.

Summary: Legend - A Wonderful Tale of Fantasy and Love
Review: This movie was one of my favorites from the 80's fantasy genre. When a young forest boy (Jack) falls in love with a princess (Lily) he shows his love by taking her to see the most sacred of creatures, the Unicorns. At the same time Darkness has his henchmen follow Lily to the unicorns and kill one of the for it's magical horn. By killing the unicorn, Darkness is one step closer to conquering the world with the powers the horns give him. One unicorn is left and it is up to Jack, Lily, and a few friends to protect it and restore the balance to the universe that Darnkess stole.

Summary: A Fantasy Classic!
Review: I first saw this movie when I was 6 years old. 15 years later, I still love it. The devil, smartly and frighteningly played by Tim Curry, can scare some young children, but I think it is one of the things that kept me coming back to this movie.

Yeah, so the performances of the rest of the cast are pretty dull, you never really get to know either of the two main characters. But it IS a great story of good vs. evil, light vs. dark and this sort of thing. Whoever designed the sets did a fantastic job, they meld perfectly with the themes and create a world of wonder, which goes hand-in-hand with Tangerine Dream's soundtrack. (If you can get the version with TD music, by all means do so).

I'm not exactly sure why I liked this movie so much, perhaps it's just a childhood memory that kept me coming back. I showed a few friends of mine last year, and none of them really liked it much. But hey, to each his own. This movie is a classic and holds a special place in my heart.
