Summary: Not here yet, but still in love with it.
Review: I first saw "Legend" as a young child. The imagery, story, and music never left me, and it's unbelievably difficult to find Legend merchandise for the hardcore fan, so when I do find it, I snatch it up immediately. I am very excited about this restored version--it's the version that was meant to be seen originally, and there is no doubt in my mind that it will be the outstanding film that the original theatrical rlease strove to be, but failed. I am glad that the people behind this release have taken the time to make sure it will be a quality item--when it was delayed I felt disappointed, but am glad they pulled it from its former streetdate in order to ensure the highest quality possible. I just want to say thanks for that.

As for the film itself--it is an enchanting blend of the rich darkness of an original fairytale blended with the innocence of youth you so often find in said stories. It saddens me when Tom Cruise refuses to mention this film in his repertoire of roles, because it is, in my opinion, one of his freshest, most honest roles ever. Mia Sara is beautiful as a princess gone awry, but the outstanding performance hands-down is Tim Curry's as Darkness. The other supporting characters also lend a definite hand, and without them, the film would utterly fail. The scenery is mystical, and appropriate for the film--it is unreal at times, but the atmosphere clicks into place as the film rolls along.

A different soundtrack is being presented along with the director's cut. It will be disorienting for the viewer at first--the viewer who is used to the Tangerine Dream soundtrack, but, like the surreal atmosphere, it will blend into the enjoyable accompaniment that it was supposed to be. I own both of the soundtracks, and I can definitely say, for myself, that I prefer neither one above the other. I love them both--the exception being that the Tangerine Dream soundtrack is nostalgic for me. If you've seen the "European" cut of the film, the soundtrack presented there is the original Goldsmith score, and it's strange upon first hearing. But I fell in love with it, and the melodies are both dark and haunting, and light and joyful, when they need to be, and there are hints of the destruction to come in many arrangements.

I can't say enough about this beautiful movie. Even in the horribly edited state that it has remained in for so many years, it comes across as the perfect film to me. Now that it is is being released with the intent of a having a fully finished product as the director and creator intended, I must repeat that I have no doubts in my mind that it will be a more suberb film, and that it will leave many other fantasy films behind it in its splendor.

Summary: Legend DVD
Review: It's hard to believe that one director can give us so many wonderful and varied motion pictures - Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Bladerunner... and the underappreciated Legend, which is easily one of the best fantasy films ever made. This film literally takes you to another place and time, and a more atmospheric, enchanting motion picture I have yet to see.

I've been waiting for this DVD release for quite some time now (like so many others), and this delay is seriously grating on my nerves. How long can it possibly take?! The fans WANT this movie, and we want it NOW! It's getting really old already...

Summary: Please release this as soon as possible! Also in Europe!
Review: I was waiting for years to see this Defenitive Edition in the Internet. And it's pretty cool! Jup! Now we'll get the entire movie-stuff including the Masterpiece-Score by Jerry Goldsmith (with the fantastic "Fairy Dance") and all the scenes, that did not make the final cut (By the way...WHY???). But hurry up a bit in releasing this. This could be the Chance to eliminate all the faults, that were done on this movie from the beginning. That could bring us a non-expected milestone in Fantsy-Genre. It sounds good and sure will be. So don't waste time...release it now! And an European Release in RC-2 must follow...IT MUST!

Summary: An Underrated Adventure
Review: This movie is not about dazzling you with special effects,
or finding the right teeny bopper actor to play a million dollar
roll. This movie is all about what most good books and movies are, a great escape from our everyday lives. And what an escape it was! To venture through merky forests and talk among elves, to follow a fairies guidance and to conquere the darkness that exists within us all.

Sadly, Ridley Scott is slowly developing this directors cut. It contains so much that was taken away from the original film, plus includes the music that it was meant to have, not the Tangerine Dream score.

Though derived from several scripts, one of which was under the original title called "Legend Of Darkness," a much darker and violent portrayal of good versus evil, I think that the film ultimatley manages to reach the child-like wonder in us all.

If you haven't already bought this movie, do so immediatley!!!

Summary: I remember this movie!
Review: This movie was really quirky. Before Tom went all Top Gun on us, he was in this. Although it is a little patched together, I truly agree its a very underrated film. I remember it being a really cool little ride. Tim Curry is always good.

I must say though, that what me and my friends say really is true, this movie has a lot of errie similarities with the Legend of Zelda. Think about it, Young Elf boy going to save his princess from the clutches of a beast of a man, and does so through survival.

In closing, the acting could have been better, the story could have been more polished, but all and all it was an enjoyable movie. Very good. Its cool to catch Link..I mean, Tom Cruise in an early role such as this.

Summary: The score
Review: Add me to the list of those waiting for the DVD but I question the differences in the two versions.
While I would love to see all that was cut from the film, I have heard both scores and I prefer Tangerine Dream's. Now of course, I have only heard Goldsmith's - not seen it with the film - but Tangerine Dream's adds such a beautifully dark aura to the story that might otherwise have come off as too "light".
I could be wrong but at this point I admit my love for the film is based on the original American release. Even with all the edits that may have been noticeable, it was sumptuous viewing and I could not wait to get the soundtrack.

Summary: Love this Film!
Review: I love this film. I don't know why most people say the European Version is better, the European version was horrid. I am so glad they Americanized it. It sounds so much better. I would not have this movie any other way but American. I thought the story was great and the music by tangerine dream was GREAT!

Summary: Legend
Review: I have seen the European director's cut version of this movie and I will have to say that it is much better than the American version. With Tangerine Dream's musical score, the music is beautiful but the movie was edited in such a choppy way that the movie was left really unsmooth and a bit irregular. In the original and intented Jerry Goldsmith score, the movie makes a whole lot more sense. It flows in a more complete and satisfying way and the music is a much better match. Also Tangerine Dream's score is based in Eastern tradition when the storyline of Legend is supposed to be based on Western tradition which is also why Jerry Goldsmith's score ( Western tradition) flows better with the movie. In fact both scores and the movie were edited to death despite Tangerine Dream, Jerry Goldsmith and the director's end desires leaving the movie amputated and everyone kind of disgusted (the movie staff and audiences). I'd give the movie 5 stars if the movie was just left alone and untampered with although I have to confess that the American version was good enough for me to spark an interest in alone, which led me to eventually find the European version. After viewing both versions, however, the American cut will no longer do. I am impatiently waiting for the DVD arrival of the original European director cut.

Summary: Agonizing!
Review: (This review refers to the American version.) I regret to say that renting this for family movie night was my decision. After it was over, I had to get down on my knees and apologize for making those I hold dear sit through it. The acting was sub-par, the scenes were poorly spliced, and the plot was hackneyed at best. The score sounded like someone had heard the Neverending Story soundtrack one too many times and couldn't quite let go of it. The only remotely bright spot was Tim Curry as the villain, but even he was stereotypical and largely wasted.

Summary: Great Fantasy Movie
Review: Although I haven't seen the DVD version yet, I have rented the VHS version several times & can't to add the DVD to my collection! This movie is a great fantasy flick & I would recommend it to fans of J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), C.S. Lewis (The Lion, Witch & the Wardrobe), the Dark Crystal, & even Star Wars (although it is not a space-fantasy movie}. Tim Curry as a satan-like character is quite convincing (cool costume, makeup & a pitch-bent voice). Dark, charming & wicked, he seeks to take control by possessing the horn of the unicorn which apparently represents the good in the world. He obtains the female's horn but does not yet have full power until he can get the male's as well. He also ends up being enchanted with the lead female who is Tom Cruise's love in the movie. Add some goblins, a hideous witch, and a mischevious fairy to the mix & you've got a classic fantasy story that all fans of the genre can enjoy. Granted, it's not Oscar winning acting or even deep writing, but entertaining? You betcha, and if you like to sit down every now & then & enjoy a good film with great imaginative characters and down't want to have to sit through another elite Hollywood dramafest for 3 hours, get this DVD. It's a wonderful film that will keep you interested & when you're done watching it you'll be glad you bought it.
