Summary: IT'S REALLY AN ULTIMATE EDITION!
Review: I have to say that the new Legend dvd delivers and is worth your time and money for fans of the movie and fantasy. Don't expect perfection in story and it's not free of errors but the first half of the movie is breathtaking! Second almost as good. This is not like anything you will see. It relies heavly on beauty and art I mean totally. Watch it for that only! and you will be amazed! I do think that both versions director's cut and theatrical are great but the director's is not 100% superior. Let me tell you.
I think it's better because the Meg Mucklebones(a water witch) is extended and other nice seens but the new score don't make you feel for the unicorns as much, but its terrific it don't set the mood as well either but overall it is as good if not better.
The seen where Jack(Tom Cruise) finds the dead unicorn is much more heart felt with the Tangerine score and when jack walks away,
regardless of the score the look he has on is face walking away from the unicorns is awesome GO RIDLEY! I have to say that the perfect movie in my humble opinion would be. Tangerine dream score most of the time with some Jerry Goldsmith in some of the seens, No song at the end, Director's cut length. There is two things unexplained still though the sword that Jack gets in the cave just disappears after he slays Meg. The director's cut still does not explain this, and how he says "I know nothing of weapons" and is able to sword fight Darkness at the end. I guess you have to use your imagination. That he lost his sword in the swamp. He does not have it when they get through to the to Darknesses lair. When they slide down that hill and his shield comes flying but no sword? It was overlooked I guess, does anybody else notice this? but anyway Great Movie and I love it!

Summary: It's all about DARKNESS.
Review: Alas, the art of creating great film villains is a dying one. Hollywood villains these days are little more than maladjusted amphetamine abusers with a "kill me by the end of the third act" sign pasted to their arse. It's getting so I can't recall a big screen baddie who I actually ROOTED for. Okay, there was Jack as the Joker in Batman. And sure, I did shed a tear when Dafoe's Green Goblin got waxed by that effete webslinger. None, however, compare to Tim Curry as DARKNESS. Evil characters should be sensual, powerful, arrogant, beautiful, intelligent, violent, and above all, have a great smile. In short, the film villain should make the viewer wish - if only for a little while - that they could be a villain as well. So . . . do you want to WANT to be bad??? Get your dose of Darkness.

Summary: Great Dark Fantasy Flick with NO computer effects
Review: No cheesy CGI monsters here. This is a visually stunning movie; the vivid colors and use of light vs. darkness are marvelous. The heroine and the Devil are wonderfully cast in this Euro-dark fairy tale. Tom Cruise does a decent job in a younger incarnation... in a role far from anything you've seen him in. A good "date" movie... something for both sexes here. The "making of" extra on the DVD is interesting (just how did they get all that stuff blowing in the wind?). Oh, and gratuitious use of unicorns, if you must know. Recommended.

Summary: us version still magical - director's cut boooooooooo
Review: C'mon Ridley... I barely made it through the film. The DVD set is definitely worth the purchase, but the director's cut is only worthwhile as a study. I don't understand you whom give praise to the original. I am usually a fan of the "original masterpiece," but for any of us millions of kids out there who grew up on Legend and fell in love with Mia Sara and for years to come would catch a bit of Legend on TV, and relive these childlike imaginative moments found only in our dreams, this other version is boring. The score completely distanced me from the film. I completely respect Jerry Goldsmith, but it came across as a seperate entity, not part of the film. As soon as I turned on the US version with the Tangerine Dream score I was transported right back in my childhood. I'd say that this was just due to nostalgia, but first-time viewers of the film agreed with me as well. Just after watching one scene, the consensus was that the TD score and the pacing of the US version just work better. This is a children's movie, correct? The pacing in the director's cut is way too slow. I had to struggle to stay awake. Admittedly, the ending of the US version is very cheesy, but is a cheesy ending always bad? I'd rather sit back and float through a magical fantasy world than stare impatiently as a seemingly endless stream of long drawn out scenes drags across the screen.

Summary: legend dvd
Review: I have been a huge legend fan since I was 11 years old and have viewed the american cut upwards of 500 times. Naturally, I have been excited for the last 2 years for this ultimate dvd, complete with director's cut, to FINALLY be released. Now, I am delighted to own this fabulous fantasy in widescreen, with beautifully-restored color. However, I must admit that I was severely disappointed with the extra material on the disc. The director's commentary was so boring, it actually put me to sleep the first time! Ridley has failed us in this money-making endeavor of re-release, especially after he made us wait so long for it. His commentary lacks interest- and simply re-iterates much of the information given in the 'making of' featurette, which also left much to be desired. With the exception of a few wonderful, but short, interviews with some of the actors and crew, the featurette was dominated by Ridley Scott doing a lot of whining and complaining. He is clearly insecure about this film, especially the american cut, which HE DECIDED to butcher; not the studio. He actually goes so far as to blame marijuana for the ill-acceptance of Legend in america!- ironically, leading to HIS paranoia and the butchering of his own movie! Anyway, the disc IS worth owning, if only for the wonderful Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack and the opportunity of experiencing Legend in glorious widescreen. I only wish Mr. Scott had realized sooner that Legend was NEVER going to appeal to the mass public, but was to become a cult classic for a select few to treasure for many years to come.

Summary: Great movie
Review: I got this movie because I had it on v.h.s. and wanted it on d.v.d. it comes with two versions. The director's cut and the theatrical version. I started watching the director's cut and almost fell asleep. There was too much added that didn't capture the feeling of the movie. I didn't think that Mia Sara needed to sing to the unicorn in order for it to be charmed by her. I also prefer the theatrical version's soundtrack. It was more powerful.

Summary: Wonderful!!
Review: As a fan of the orginal Pan & Scan home video version, I was excited to hear of this new cut, something I had never seen! Boy, it was one great movie! Both versions are just great and wonderful to watch, the director's cut being the better of the two with lots more things happening. Wow! Even the special features do not disappoint. Plus it's in WIDESCREEN! Yeah! If you are a fan of the movie, get it now, and get ready for one great disc!

Summary: Directors Cut not Necessarily Better
Review: At the outset, let me state that I am a longtime Tangerine Dream fan, so I was skeptical that the Goldsmith score would outdo what I considered to be TD's finest soundtrack work. Alas, I was right. The Goldsmith score is rather bland, characterless, nondescript "fluff" that never gets at the darkness or magic in the movie the way the TD score does. Watch the initial forest scenes in both versions and tell me there isn't more charm and magic in the TD score. Ditto on the re-edit: I find the US version to be tight, well paced, and blessedly devoid of the "cuteness" of the extended cut. The material cut for the US Release was wisely gone, and the movie seems flabby and self indulgent now with it restored. I am glad both versions were released in this package - the original is the one I will treasure always.

Summary: Not the orig. int'l version , but a "final" restored version
Review: This is a marvelous, and long overdue, treat for LEGEND and Jerry Goldsmith fans. This film was the second time in which a Goldsmith score for a Ridley Scott film was sliced and diced. (His original score for ALIEN, edited for that film's commercial release, was restored as an alternate audio track for the ALIEN collector's edition DVD.)

Here, his score is restored to the film, along with several scenes that were edited from either the US or both US and international versions. The first disc is a sort of "final" director's cut version that comes close to Scott's 113 minute first cut. (Example: Lily's early vision of a cuckoo clock freezing amid snow was in the US version but NOT the international release version. It's in this "final" version.) My own favorite missing snippet, Robert (Star Trek: Voyager) Picardo's full scene as Meg Mucklebones, is also restored. I remember seeing the full scene in US theatres, and missing it on the VHS releases. Other clumsy edits are also corrected, such as Darkness' first appearance in the film (or lack thereof - he's shown like Blofeld, hidden in a chair), which in the US version featured silly "glow" effects and lighting that didn't even match the rest of the scene. (Further "version" information can be found on IMDB's listing for LEGEND, under Alternate Versions.)

In all, the restored director's cut, and several tasty extras, on this 2-disc set make it well worth the price for fans. Included are a work print introduction scene that was ultimately abandoned, and a restoration of the Faerie's Dance, which was cut and subsequently lost. For non-fans, LEGEND remains a visually stunning live action rendition of a faerie tale. More than a little scary for young 'uns, but still magical for adults with a sense of wonder. The movie's stars are almost secondary (save for lovely, young Mia Sara) to the virtuoso turns by supporting players, led by David Bennant. I wish Scott would return to his contemplative filmmaking like BLADE RUNNER, THE DUELLISTS and LEGEND. LEGEND is an example of a director in full command of his craft.

Summary: it's more then a legend .. it's what gods whisper of
Review: This movie can be seen by any age groupthere is no nudity or gore. The plot is simple( "kill the bad guy, save the world, get the girl") and you can tell the good guys fromthe bad guys fairly easy :) I'd like to see what the movie would look like from what the writer's first draft said .. it seemed like an epic like a lord of the rings type film.

I loved this DVD.. Disc two with all the Behind the camera info was awesome. I always wonder about Darkness and how they made him so larger then life( in the movie). was it the camera angles or smaller set well this DVD tells it all. I did wish tom cruise was on this dvd . i mean come on, i would hope if i was an actor i'd never get to big to come back to talk about arole i've done.

I'm glad this movie at least gets therespect it deserves after critics panned iut but i'm sure as any movie gooer worth his or her weight in gold knows .. MOVIE CRITICS don't KNOW JACK!!
