Summary: A waste of good talent
Review: Visually appealing, but the story stinks, particularly in character development. For the first time in my life, I was so utterly bored that I considered stopping the tape midway. Serious fantasy fans, forget it. It has the intelligence of a head of cauliflower. It isn't worthy of the fine talents of Tim and Tom.

Summary: A Beautiful Masterpiece
Review: This movie is absolutely incredible. The DVD is 200 times better. The sights, sounds, props, voices, animals - everything in this movie is wonderful. If you haven't seen it yet, rent it, buy it!!!!

Summary: "I'm telling you, don't waste your time..."
Review: This movie did deserve one star, because the Lord of Darkness looked pretty cool, and was played well by Tim Curry, but the rest of it was very stupid. I mean, sure, any little kid would want to see this because it has a lot to do with fairy tales and unicorns, but come on, you can see that the horns were probably glued on to white horses' heads, they shook when the horses ran. If they were real horns, they would not shake, so it was very farfetched. The creatures were impish and stupid looking, especially that almost-naked little elfish thing that sounded like Frieza from Dragon Ball Z. I slept through the end, so I couldn't tell you about that. If you want a good Ridley Scott film, try looking at "Alien" or "Hannibal", but avoid this one.

Summary: Very COOL, but maybe TOO scary for kids...
Review: I really like this movie. The 'Director's Cut' seems to explain a little more. Over all, this movie is a MUST for any true DVD collector. I wouldn't let the little ones watch this though. You'll diffenately want to pre-view it to make sure they can handle it.

Summary: Great visuals and special fx, but a little hard to follow
Review: I loved the visuals and the DTS sound the movie was encoded with. However I found some of it hard to understand. Who was the old lady who was talking to the princess at the beginning of the movie? If she's a princess, why is she out gallavanting around by herself w/o bodyguards? Who was that one gnome who actually turned out to be good, and did he die at the end? Also, how did the dead unicorn stallion come back to life at the end? Other than that, it was great.

Summary: Ridley Scott Was At His Best!
Review: Legend (Special Edition) this is probably my favorite of all the Ridley Scott films. The imagery and now the wondrous score of the original European release of Jerry Goldsmith music is back. I have always had the original score on CD but had never seen it to the movie.

What I did find interesting is that they had interviews with all the cast and crew except one person. Tom Cruise. And, ironically enough no one mentioned him either. Now be it 'star' attitude or the fact he would make himself available - either way this makes this DVD that much more special.

Ridley Scott during his commentary does mention Tom's talent and athletic abilities but he really does focus on Tim Curry (Darkness), Billy Barty (Troll), David Bennet (Gump) and Mia Sarrow (Lilly) and the technical aspects of making this movie.

The story is simple. Good verse Evil and Good triumphs. The visuals of the fairies and forest are incredible; one of the most beautiful things in the films is the Unicorns.

There are two versions of this film, (two DVD) one with the less respectable music of Tangerine Dream (although good - not appropriate ion my opinion) and one, which is the European release with the Jerry Goldsmith score. This DVD is a must for the sci-fi and fantasy collector. I watched it several times. (8-13-02)

Summary: Director's cut makes all the difference.
Review: In my lifetime I've probably seen the U.S. version of Legend about 10 times on cable and always marveled at it. There is so much to love in this movie, but I never really connected with the story the way I have with this Director's Cut release. Like Dune, or many other movies of the time, the movie is very ambitious and beautiful to look at, but it failed to make a lasting impression on me. I think the major factor that changed my perception of Legend this time around was the addition of the original Jerry Goldsmith score. Music in a movie has the power to convey emotions and build tension, which in this case really helps to draw you in and make a stronger connection with the story. The original Tangerine Dream score wasn't bad, but I think it dated the film and gave a different feel to everything. Legend is a classic fairy tale, and it's better suited with Goldsmith's classical score.

There is much more character development throughout the movie, mainly in the beginning with Jack (Tom Cruise) and Princess Lily (Mia Sara). The end of the film is also extended, which adds more closure to the story for me. It's a classic fairy tale ending. These additions and the original score make for a more timeless film, which hopefully will be enjoyed for many years to come. In addition to the restored version, this two-disc set also has a commentary with Ridley Scott, in which he gives great insight into what he was trying to achive with this film, as well as a new documentary about the making of the film, containing interviews with several cast members, including Mia Sara, as well as director Ridley Scott and several other crew members. This set definitely makes it worth giving Legend a second look.

Summary: Legend - A "must-have" for your collection
Review: This is one of those movies that came out in the '80's when cable television was brand new. I remember watching it over and over, and even today, I have not grown tired of this fantasy movie. If you've seen moves from the mid 80's, some of the scenes and music is SO wrong and distorted!~ You will be impressed with the costumes, the make up, and even the music of the times is represented. This movie stars Tom Cruise [not too corny], Mia Sara [not too sweet], and Tim Curry [just a bit frightening]. If you like faeries, sprites, demons, unicorns, this is a great movie. kids love it!~

Summary: Finally!
Review: I've been waiting for this movie to be released with the cut scenes restored for so long. I had both soundtracks but had only seen the American version with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack. I like the Tangerine Dream soundtrack more on its own, but I think I prefer the director's cut with the original score. Although T.D.'s soundtrack is otherworldly, Goldsmith's reflects the innocence and naivete of the characters along with the dreamlike and nightmarish fantasy world. I've always loved this movie, and the restored scenes made it even better. It's one of my favorite movies of all time along with Blade Runner (although I'm undecided on which version is better for that one). If only Ridley Scott would do more sci-fi/fantasy movies nowadays.

Summary: Excellent fantasy movie:
Review: I saw this movie along time ago on HBO, loved the movie and tried to record it twice on my vcr, but it never came out right. It seemed to missing something. When I heard it was coming out in DVD I was really excited because it was going to be a double also included a version that was never seen here in the U.S. Well I have seen both versions and I cannot believe what we had missed here in the U.S. the musical version was so much better, lost scenes were returned listeneing to the actors and the actresses talk about making this movie it was wonderful. The story plot is simple but the fantastic scenes and the lost movie score seemed to make it a whole new movie. I am so glad that I own the DVD that I can watch it anytime I like, but I have to say that I love the non-usa version so much better. I wish that I could find the cd in the European Musical version.
