Summary: The Neverending Story
Review: "The Neverending Story" is about a young boy who finds a magical book and reads it while playing hooky from school. The book is about a young brave warrior who must take on a quest to find the secret to curing the queen, and also to find a way to stop their world from being destroyed by The Nothing. "The Neverending Story" is another movie that preaches how important books are (others being "The Name of the Rose", "The Princess Bride" and "In the Mouth of Madness"). This is Wolfgange Peterson's first English movie, and it is a good one. It was made for children, that is why all the monsters and creatures look like Jim Henson's Muppets. Now what you have to keep in mind is that this movie was made in the mid 80s, so the special effects are not up to par with films like "The Lord of the Rings" or "The Matrix", but I liked the effects in this movie better than CGI; there are actually something for the actors to interact with. The story is a conglamerate of many myths and legends, mostly the quest, like for the Holy Grail. But it is also important to know that the message of the film is that the human imagination is essential to survival, and I think that a lot of people have forgotten that. It is important to read, to keep the mind and imagination fed. This is a really great children's fantasy movie, some adults may find it a little corny.

Review: I can see this movie selling for quite some time, As it has become a cult classic. NeS Part II and Part III are nothing in the shadow of this beastly Fantasy DVD. If you enjoyed such movies:

And so on and so on.. If you have children or are a Fantasy fan like myself, Pick this up you won't regret it!

Summary: Great movie with a deep message...
Review: I just have to say that this is my second favorite movie of all time (only beaten by the Star Wars saga).

This movie is just fantastic... imaginative and with very deep meaning and messages. Everytime I see it, I find more things about it... this is a much more complex movie than any of the child movies produced these days.

And it has proved to be timeless. I saw it when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and the kids of today love it as much as I did in the early 80's. Great effects, great production design, music, costumes, sets, story, characters... wow !

I wonder what could have happened if Wolfgang Petersen back then decided to make the sequel a couple of years later, with the same actors, same crew, etc... It'd have been great !

And just to finish... I know you'll agree with me: I WANT A MORE DECENT VERSION OF THE MOVIE... I mean: a nice package, the movie in Widescreen format(shame on you letterbox!!), 5.1 surround sound, mastered image and sound tracks, documentaries, deleted scenes, conceptual drawings and artwork, production stills, TV spots, posters... everything that most of the "decent" DVD releases have in the present.

Come on... I've seen much more mediocre and less classic movies in "Special collector's deluxe edition Director's Cut enhanced ultimate criterion collections"

Am I wishing too much ? Perhaps, but remember: "Wunsch ohne Begrenzungen".

Summary: Why can't Hollywood make movies like this anymore?
Review: The special effects (1984 style), the storyline, how a little boy loves reading, the magical beings (even the monsters were magical), the scenery, everything about "The Never Ending Story" swept you off your feet and kept you spellbound. You had to watch it to the end to know what happened and became a bit annoyed when the story was interrupted during the course of the film.

I love computer flicks like "Monsters, Inc." (an original concept in this day and age) but now every childrens flick is computer animated and has the same basic storyline.

What a classic!

Review: If only there were movies like this one being made with this much imagination and story-scape for our spoon-fed undiciplined kids. This is an ominous and wonderfully enriched fantasy experience and is not to be compared to the presently mass produced predictable and repetative adult jargon filled cartoon computer crap. Not that the Computer stuff is bad, its just not as good as The Never Ending Story;Thats all...
This movie definitely deserves 5 stars for creativity and greatness, and Atreyu shall rightfully have his hand imprinted into one of the Hollywood Stars.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: I don't exactly know why, but this is one of the few movies that has stuck in my head after 20 years since I was 5 years old. And I know it's not a bad movie, so therefore it is a really good movie that sparks the imagination. I believe there was a quote in this movie that evolved me. I would have bought this in 1997 if the DVD of this was out during that time.
