Summary: Can't get much better than this.
Review: Ever since I first saw this movie when I was little, I liked it. I had almost forgotten about it until I got into a conversation with my girlfriend and it led to this movie. This movie is a good buy for kids of all ages and the kid in every adult. Anybody who doesn't like this movie must have forgotten what it's like to be a kid and what it means to have an imagination. Buy this movie and if you don't like it, then then you have lost any part of childhood you ever had.

Summary: A must-see for fantasy lovers
Review: I read the original novel this movie is based on, in fact I have it at home. Beautiful scenery a wondeful grasp of the period lends the movie some artistic quality, beginning with the opening credits showing tapestry scenes many unicorn aficionadoes will already be familiar with. A classic quest tale comparable to Homer's "Oddessy" a unicorn searches for her lost kinfolk. Helping her along her way are Schmendrick, a poor man's Merlin and Molly Grue, a poor woman who still, knows a lot more of unicorns than the incompetent Schmendrick, who is described at one point as not being able to "turn cream into cheese". When his magic does work right, it's by sheer accident but when he allows his power to flow through him as it will he calls forth Robin Hood and his Merry Men, not forgetting Maid Marian. Of course at the end our heroes win out, Schmendrick finds his true magic, the Unicorn finds the others captured and imprisoned within the waves of the sea and the lost sense of magic and wonder is restored to the world at large. What I wouldn't give to be a character in this story, I could happily give up my entire reality to live in this world forever. Also the soundtrack by Queen adds to the general artisticness beginning with the opening title theme.

Summary: The last Unicorn movie
Review: I first saw this movie when It was given to me on my eight birthday by my grandparents. It stole my heart, no sooner had I recieved it had I seen over and over every day. It broke over time, so my mother bought me another. I can still remeber the songs from the movie before I got my second copy. You'll never see a better movie than this if you love fantasy or your kids do.Excert, said by the Unicorn, " What she calls a manticore looks to be nothing more than a shabby toothless old lion, and she make them believe that poor old ape with a twisted ankle is a satyr. Deception, Illusion, Mirages, your mommy Fortuna can not truly change things...." written from my memory.

Summary: A Great Fantasy Movie!!
Review: I used to watch this video all the time when I was a little
girl! I always loved Fantasy stories, and unicorns in particular!
When I first saw this movie, I loved it from the start! With characters like Amounthea (the unicorn)believing she is the last, and Schmendrick the "magician" who never gets his spells quite right, or Molly, who's longed to see a unicorn forever, but was told they didn't exsist! The three venture out, to find other unicorns like Amounthea, where they meet King Haggard, and his son, the prince, and the Red Bull. The whole story is thrilling for anyone who loves fantasy!! Enjoy!!

Summary: The Last Unicorn
Review: I read a review about how someone watched the video as a child and finds the video more memorizing. I agree with this whole-heartedly. While entertaining for children, you really don't grasp the full meaning until you are older. I am 20 now, and I get so much more out of this than I did at around 5 or so. The animation is beautiful, the story line spellbounding, and the music is the same, most by the band America. Definitely check out this movie, and the book.

Summary: Just My Thoughts
Review: Obvioulsy I do not have the dvd yet, but I do own the vhs, and agree with everyone's opinions thus far about the film. I would like to add my own slant on the cartoon (which may sound a bit odd, but bare with me). I think that the film has a slightly deeper meaning than just the simple tragic love story between the unicorn and the prince, or the action/adventure of the saving of the other unicorns from the sea and the fall of Lord Haggard. The film, in my view, is about perception, seeing things for what they are, the truth and the illusion. Schmendrik stated it best when he said "It is a rare man who is taken for what he truly is." From the beginning we see that man cannot tell a true unicorn from a horse. Also, all of Mommy Fortuna's creatures are nothing but "deceptions, mirages" and "The truth melts her magic." Schmendrik tries constantly to pass himself off as a true wizard or magician, though, it is hard for him to do so convincingly. The bandits in the forest want so desperately to escape their condition they believe that they are actually seeing Robin Hood in the flesh and run to join him. People will believe anything if they are so desperate to do so. The unicorn herself must be passed off as human to infiltrate the castle. What I think is important to point out is that even though her actual, physical body has been completely transford, this is not able to hide the truth, that she is a unicorn. Mabrook (sp?) the wizard saw it. Haggard eventually saw it. Heck, even a cat and a skeleton could see it. The final bit of literal illusion would be the entrance to the bull's lair. The entrance is disguised as a clock (which can make you wonder if the clock actually exists). Metaphorically speaking, I think the bull is an illusion, too. He reminds me of a bully on the playground, all talk, all intimidation. It takes but one hit from someone standing up to him to make him cry. The bull is large and firey but it takes but one unicorn to force (scare, intimidate) him into the sea (she didn't even need to touch him). The bull was a sheep in wolf's clothing. Or, the bull could represent our own personal fears that can only be overcome by facing them. (She faced the bull.) Finally, I think this all points to the idea that we see what we want to see (what is most comfortable or acceptable) and by the same token we try to show people what we would like them to see or believe (or what we think they would like see or believe).

Summary: One of my favorites!
Review: I first saw this movie about a year ago and I absolutely LOVED it! My fiance said that she saw it when she was a bit younger and was obsessed with it. And one of the major reasons why this movie intrigued me was the fact that it looks very similar to the style used in anime(japanese animation), which my fiance and myself are very big fans of. So even if your an anime fan, DON'T look this one over! This movie is worth the buy!!
