Summary: Shake your groove thing.
Review: Disney is well-known for their high-scale musical cartoons. Pop ballads from or inspired by their musical cartoons usually find themselves at the top of the charts. THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE was supposed to be a musical like that, one with a strong moral message, lots of syrupy love songs, and breathtaking animation. However, something happened along the way. The movie took a completely different turn (why do you think the film was 1st released at the end of the year instead of the summer?) and ended up being the least serious of all Disney full-length animated features. Thank goodness! It's about time the power-mouse took a break, had some fun (without too many perverted subtlties), and made a movie that adults will probably enjoy more than children. The closest Disney flick THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE resembles is ALADDIN. However, the humor in this film is more akin to the Muppets, the Simpsons, and early Warner Brothers cartoons. David Spade is perfect as the voice of Emperor Kuzco, John Goodman is delightful as the peasant Pacha who saves Kuzco many tmes, and Patrick Warburton steals the movie as the voice of Kronk. The basic outline of the story is that Kuzco is a selfish Emperor who wants to destroy Pacha's village so he can build a summer home. He fires his advisor Yzma (Eartha Kitt) because he doesn't trust her and in retaliation she plans to kill him. However, Kronk accidently mistakes a llama transformation potion for poison and Kuzco turns into one of the hairy bests instead. Yzma still wants Kuzco dead, but Krok has a conscience and can't complete the task. Eventually, Kuzco ends up in Pacha's wagon and that's all your going to get; my groove just changed.

Summary: BOOM BABY!
Review: Just as Snow White was the start of the full length feature animation and the Little Mermaid started great animated features in the 90's I believe The Emporers New Groove could be the start of some great animated features to come in the new century from Disney and we have seen already other greats come from Disney in the Last year including Emporers New Groove, Recess Schools Out, and more recently Atlantis. Starring the Voice talents of David Spade and John Goodman it is full of laughs and almost no doubt you and your children for weeks maybe even months after seeing this movie will be saying things like Uh huh, uh huh, uhuhuhuh!, No Touchie, Boom Baby, Somebody's throwing stuff wasn't me! and many many more one liners from this movie! It's a great adventure for both young and old alike!

Summary: Who knew David Spade would be so perfect?
Review: David Spade brings a LOT of character via his vocal work on this movie. I was expecting to not be crazy about it because I'm not a fan of his, but after watching it for the 3000th time (with my 3 year old) I have to say I like it just as much now as I did the first time I watched it. Anything that entertains both adults and children gets an A+ in my book. Eartha Kitt is now my favorite cartoon villian, and Patrick Warburton as Kronk continues to be one of the funniest character actors today. You won't be sorry.

Summary: DVD Glitches!!!!
Review: Please take note the horrible amount of stars I gave this "DVD". The movie itself deserves a ton of stars. I love this flick. I've gone through three copies thinking something was wrong with the disc. Come to find out, I think the problem is simply my DVD player. I've had this "TOSHIBA SD-3107" since December of 1997. Along with around three-hundred movies and I've never had a glitch until I purchased "The Emperor's New Groove". Every so often througout the flick, it skips and jumps around like crazy. All three of the discs did it. I tried it on my dad's player (TOSHIBA SD-2107) which his model is one down from mine, and it did the same there. Then I threw it in a Sony Playstation 2 and it played perfect all the way through. I'm guessing my machine is simply 'old' and cannot handle the complexity and newer technology that they put on these discs. I have a feeling I need to do an update on a new DVD player. I purchased the machine back when they first came out... I guess I'm going to keep this one until I can afford one of the DVD Recorders coming out soon. Despite those crazy problems the audio and video are perfect! And oh to note, I'm 29 years old. I get tired of reading peoples' reviews saying that this movie and other Disney flicks are for children. I'm a huge kid-at-heart. You could never be too old to view these type of films. And if you pay attention, there are a lot of adult orientated material in Disney toons. Even back in the day. So keep an open mind. Just because it's a cartoon, doesn't mean it's for children. Later...

Summary: You Don't Know What You're Missing...Ultimately Groovy
Review: One of the best Disney Films of all time. It's not Snow White or Beauty And The Beast or The Little Mermaid, but it wasn't meant to be like those films. It's a fun flat out comedy and it stands impressively well on its' own! Animation is superb, high quality and very well designed, Beautiful Backgrounds and Effects, Simple Story told very well and Hilarious Jokes keep the movie moving at a fast pace. Excellent perfomances by David Spade, John Goodman and especially Patrick Warburton with a stand out performance by Eartha Kitt make this film an absolute hoot! Director Mark Dindal jam packs this film full of wonderful entertainment which is terrific for repeat viewing. There's not too many films that I can view over and over, so believe me... it's that good. Ultimate Grooves' supplementary features, produced by Jeff Kurtii, are excellent as well and maintain some of the goofiness of the feature film. Like most of the people here, I skipped this movie when it came out in theatres and now realize what a mistake that was. I urge you to buy the DVD, not only because it is terrific entertainment but because it will show Disney that we'd like to see more pictures like this one.

Summary: underrated fun disney movie
Review: I was really surprised when i watched this movie. I laughed for the whole entire time. Truly a funny movie, but it seemed almost more warner bros-ish than disney. It never had one of those "heart wrenching" moments Disney always tries to throw in. Lots of fun. As for the SPecial edition DVD. It a great animated menu, tons of sketches, some deleted stuff, and some little toys and games and the such. If you like that sorta stuff, get this version. If you dont care much of that, get the regular, but just watch this movie at any rate.

Summary: THE FUNNIES MOVIE (BESIDES SHREK)
Review: This movie is really cool and funny. Unlike many movies, this has no soppy, mushy parts, just downright comedy, with a beautiful plot!

Summary: One of the best Disney films in years
Review: I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to see this film. Well, maybe I was only screaming on the inside, but there was definite kicking involved. Everything about the marketing for this film screamed "cheese," from the poster, to the trailer, to the title. "This has got to be an all-time low for Disney," I thought, as I went kicking into the theater, dragged by my girlfriend and her niece.

90 minutes later I emerged one happy filmgoer. I won't bother to tell you about the plot because, really, it doesn't matter. The film is funny, fast, and full of energy, and one of the best animated films I've seen since The Lion King. I can only say that it's Aladdin only without the songs or the love story. But, in fact, it's funnier than Aladdin.

As for the DVD, it's very good. Both sound and video are outstanding. There is absolutely nothing that anyone could complain about there. Which leaves us with bonus features:

There are two versions of Emperor's New Groove out on DVD. This single disc is really the only one you need. I've played with both, and the good features from the second disc are all included here on this single disc release. You're mostly missing the director and producer goofing and talking about how animated films are made. There is the occasional interesting bit on the second disc of the other set, but they are few and far between, and not worth the extra cash, in my opinion.

If you're thinking of buying this title, buy this single disc release. It's the way to go.

Summary: Pleasant Surprise - Amusing Diversion
Review: The Emperor's New Groove was reworked from another film "Kingdom of the Sun" that was scrapped well through the process of making it. The only things remaining are David Spade and a song by Sting. I didn't see Emperors New Groove in the theater, but picked up the DVD, because I can't resist a special edition. I laughed quite a bit at David Spade, John Goodman, and Patrick Warburton, but especially Eartha Kitt. The features will keep you busy for hours, and the film will keep you chuckling.

Summary: Not inspired, but fun
Review: The basic story line of this movie is pedestrian, both predictable and uninspired.

But that's not to say it's not a fun movie. They did an admirable job of creating a fun cast of characters, and giving them lots of witty dialog and laugh-out-loud situations. Weeks later, I still find myself laughing at some of the humor.

This is a movie to watch when you're in the mood for something light, but with a lot of style.
