Summary: A wonderful journey
Review: This excellent adaptation of the legendary story is actually much more likeable than the original story -- and it actually makes much more sense. The FX were incredible, but what realy drives the story is the chemistry between Avital and Scott, especially given the *incredible* job done by the latter in not just one, but two roles. While I think ABC could have done with a 3-part story instead of 2, which would have given us more interaction between the two principal characters, that is the *only* real complaint I have. Ask anyone who knows me -- that is an unusual compliment. A definite buy!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: This film is one of the most entertaining shows I have ever watched. The action scenes are exciting, the script is fantastic, the specail effects are good. The performances delightful. All around a movie that you would want to keep. The Aladdin story alone makes this worth watching. Jason Scott Lee is perfect as the thieving lad, but it is Aladdin's crooked mother that steals every scene she is in. Hallmark Entertainmet's all time best.

Summary: BORING
Review: This has got to be one of the most awful made for T.V. Mini-Series since the remake of Stephen King's The Shining. I haven't had so much trouble staying awake watching a movie as I did trying to watch this and comprehend what it's suppose to be about. The story lines were inept and childlike. Most of the visual effects were rather stunning, but on the whole, the special effects don't make up for the boring and all too lame story lines. I don't think my watching this story again or even wasting my time and money to buy it is what I would ever do. This is a classic Failure which should have been left on the cutting room floor. If you have trouble sleeping at night, I suggest buying this video and trying to watch it, you will soon be sleeping like a baby.

Summary: Absolutely wonderful, unless you get the CUT version!
Review: This is an absolutely wonderful movie! We watched it as a family and loved it! Dougray Scott is an amazing actor and very believable as the Sultan going mad. I received this video as a present and my 8 year old daughter pointed out that huge parts of it were cut out! The tale of the beggar and sultan, a huge turning point in the story was gone, among other parts! It didn't make sense! And my husband had ordered the extended play version. We finally rented it and saw it in its entirety. If you watch it make sure you get the full version...it is 175 minutes long. The cut version is 139 minutes long and really takes away from the story. The story is nothing without the crucial parts cut out. I highly recommend the extended play version and feel you are really missing out if you don't watch it at least once!

Summary: Delightful
Review: This movie is absolutely thrilling. All in all it is actually one of my favorites.
The insane Sultan Schahriar of Baghdad (Dougray Scott), after having accidentally killed his wife upon finding her in bed with his brother, fears that any woman he marries will plot his death.
Insane and paranoid Sultan Schahriar is, and as his Grand Vizier says with so much truth he works for the worst type of madman: ' a madman with power'.
Are any Third World dictators listening???
The Sultan looks for a wife to marry and have executed the next morning, and it is the Grand Viziers daughter, played by the exquisite Israeli beauty Mili Avital, who volunteers to be the lamb for the slaughter, knowing full well the Sultans dastardly plan. She aims to save the woman of the Kingdom, the Sultan and of course herself.

What she aims to do is keep him awake for forty nights with enchanting stories, which she has learned from a wise old storyteller ((Alan Bates) on the streets of Baghdad.

The stories told are Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Aladdin, The Sultans Jester, Never Tell the Same Joke Twice, and a story of three brothers sent on a glorious quest.

This movie is thrilling, sensual, insightful, wise, touching and hilariously funny, all at once.

It also introduces us to four of the world most gorgeous women, the exquisite and fascinating Mili Avital as Scheherezade, the lovely Amira Casar as Ali Baba's servant girl and later wife, the sensual and delightful Ayesha Dhakar in the opening scene and several cameo roles, and Vanessa Mae as Aladdin's Princess.

I love this movie.

Summary: Outstanding movie!
Review: This movie was absolutely outstanding! Dougray Scott is superb as the Sultan. This has to be one of the best roles he has ever portrayed. I've seen several version of Arabian Nights, but this has to be by far the best and only one worth watching over and over!

Summary: Exquisite tale of love and bravery
Review: This video is one of the best miniseries I have seen. The acting is very believable, and the characters are distinctly drawn. Costumes, sets, and special effects glitter. I especially loved the tale of Aladdin, with Jason Scott Lee and John Leguziamo - NOT your reworked Disney story! The main storyline concerns the brave Sheherezade's determined goal of coaxing the Sultan back to sanity through her clever stories. As she tells each story, the Sultan regains his trust in others and loses his heart to her. I use this video to teach my high school writing students about creating great stories. (no objectionable scenes or words.) The kids love it and are begging me to show it again.

Summary: Don't get the VHS copy
Review: This was an excellent movie when I watched it on TV. My sister purchased the VHS copy and I sat down ot watch it only to be horrified by the editing. The most important story had been cut from the movie. I would be glad to be informed why the movie companies (including Disney and George Lucas) think things need to be changed, censored, and flat out butchered?

Summary: Amazing!
Review: This was probably the best mini series on TV In have ever seen. Most others had been so-so, but this was fantastic! The stories were brilliant visually and the cast was versatile to fit into whatever part they played, whether a begger or a sultan. If you have ever lost faith in seeing a well done, excellent mini series, check out this video! I'm so impressed! Bravo!
