Summary: Thoroughly disappointing- Cuba, what were you thinking?
Review: I have babysat many kids in my life, and consequently watched many Disney films. This is by far one of the worst I've seen. Sure, 9-year old boys and girls will love the slapstick humor, but parents will be wanting to pull their hair out if they have to listen to anymore of the predictable, unimaginative one-liners. I thought Cuba Gooding, Jr. was supposed to be this great, talented actor. So when the kids suggested we watch this film, I admit, I was looking forward to it. I expected some really touching scenes reminiscent of Remember the Titans or some truly hilarious moments like I saw in Cool Runnings. Instead, I was shocked to find overused jokes and no character development. Kids will love it, but parents, if you're looking for a movie the whole family can enjoy- forget about Snow Dogs. You'll be reaching for the aspirin long before it's over.

Summary: not much fun for children or adults
Review: In the dishearteningly mediocre "Snow Dogs," Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. plays a Miami dentist who inherits an Alaskan dogsled team from a mother he never knew he had.

Perhaps to compensate for the bland inexpressiveness of the canines themselves, Gooding Jr. prances, preens and mugs for the camera in a vain attempt to bring some badly needed life to the proceedings. Indeed, the dogs are so lacking in personality and character that they become little more than bit players in their own movie. For some inexplicable reason, the creaky Jim Kouf screenplay concentrates almost exclusively on the dull plot mechanics involving a young man's attempts to come to terms with the various adults in his life - particularly his derelict father played by yet another Oscar-winner, James Coburn. Of what possible interest this could be to the target audience of the film - 5 to 10 year olds - I find it impossible to fathom. With so little attention paid to the dogs in the film, even the least demanding viewer will quickly find himself bored, restless and disappointed.

There seems to be an unwritten rule among adult critics that states that children's films are not to be held to the same standard as adult films, that somehow one needs to qualify one's criticism with the understanding that children do not judge movies by the same terms adults do. Yet does one feel the need to qualify one's praise of "The Wizard of Oz"? Of "Mary Poppins"? Of "E.T. - The Extraterrestrial"? Certainly not, for any great film that can be enjoyed by children can be enjoyed by adults as well.

Sad to say, "Snow Dogs" is a movie that neither children nor adults will take much pleasure in.

Summary: Where is the wide screen version?
Review: Little to add to the above comments, except that the Alaskan scenery would be more enjoyable on a widescreen TV if there were an anamorphic version of this release. This is something to watch out for when purchasing a Disney DVD.

Summary: Slow Dogs
Review: This movie is very slow moving. You just want to push it along. It is a good film for younger children around 8-14, but I would not recommend it for adults. It is a usual love story, where the guy gets the girl at the end. There are some cute scenes with the dogs winking at each other and the lead dog (Demon)showing he is the boss. The whole plot of the movie was a Dentist(adopted boy) who inherited his real mothers home in a small Alaskin town. Then wanting to know who is real father was and seeking information on why he was given up for adoption. I did smile at a few places in the film but overall was glad when it ended.

Summary: insufferable
Review: it sure is great to see nichelle nichols (best known as star trek's Lt. Cmdr. Uhura) looking SO good. pick up a copy of Star Trek. yes, the Alaska terrain is breathtaking. may i suggest renting the spectacular 1996 documentary "Alaska - Spirit of the Wild"? yes, the dogs packs are really something and the mutt, anna, is adorable. visit your local animal shelter. adopt a stray. train for the Iditarod - for certain it will be less painful than sitting through Snow Dogs.

i saw this movie on a plane recently - the experience improved dramatically when i switched the headphone jacks to my cd player and watched the rest of the movie while listening to the new Moby cd.

about the director...it would appear Brian Levant's earliest work, including the afffable and popular "beethoven", provides his professional high point (in a career that sprials downward - sharply! - with the flintstones, jingle all the way, and the flintstones rock las vegas). here, mr. levant has crafted a film that somehow manages to be vigorously noisy and slapstick , but plodding in pace to the point of moving backwards.

similarly, the studio should can the writer for creating a predicitble screenplay that is too childish for children.

cuba gooding, jr. (who truly deserved his Best Supporting Actor for the 1996 hit Jerry Maguire) and james coburn (who won a best supporting actor oscar for his fine performance in "Affliction" from 1999) should both fire their agents without hesitation.

if nothing else, Snow Dogs serves as proof that getting good work is tough, even for the best actors in the business. apparently, it's much easier for lousy directors.

Summary: It will bring on a smile!
Review: Can you smile for 99 minutes? Snow Dogs (PG) staring Cuba Gooding and his team of dogs will help make sure you do. Cuba's smile and all those dogs are infectious. Ted, (Gooding) a dentist from Miami finds out he is adopted. Nothing unusually about that, except his dad is James Coburn and he was born in Alaska. Ted travels to Alaska to settle his biological mother's estate and falls in love with a pretty local girl and of course those dogs! The rest is very predictable. If you're looking for a fun movie for the family, a film that will make you smile and laugh, Snow Dogs is a very good choice. Cuba is magnetic and funny; oh ya did I mention those dogs! They are cute. Amazon ASIN: B00005JKVU

Summary: Cute, good fun for the family!
Review: Although I was a tad thrown off by the previews, I was under the assumption that like Dr. Doolittle the dog's actually talked, this movie was still very cute and extremely funny! A perfect movie for anyone from birth to 90.
It is very rare now a day that you can find a movie you can sit with your kids, or sit with your parents to watch and have everyone find enjoyable, but this is definately a great movie for everyone!
Cuba Gooding Jr's preformance is first rate, with an awsome ensemble to back him up not to mention the great team of k-9 friends to complete this perfect mix of action, comedy and pure fun!
This is definately a movie worth seeing, over and over and over!

Summary: Hit by Thunder?
Review: I think the funniest part of this movie was when two punk boys in Alaska said, "That's Thunder Jack. They call him that cuz he got hit by thunder...twice!" Other than that, it was mildly amusing, with a so-so plot. My little brother watched half of it and said, "So far I haven't had one laugh." True, he's young, but it isn't as much of a great comedy as the advertisers would have you believe. BUT the dogs are cute, and it's not a bad movie overall.

Summary: Misleading trailer.
Review: If you caught the previews on TV you might have thought this was a fantasy film with talking dogs. Nope! There is a brief dream sequence with Cuba Gooding freezing and hallucinating about the dogs talking to him. The dream bit is entertaining, but the film is not a fantasy. Well, lets just say it is Hollywood's version of reality.

Cuba Gooding is his usual appealing self and James Coburn as Thunder Jack reminds us of why he was a popular star. Cuba Gooding plays a successful dentist in Florida who discovers he was adopted. His biological mother in Alaska has died and left him . . guess what? The dogs, of course. He sets off to visit Alaska and find his true self. The funniest scenes are when Cuba is learning to handle the dogs and drive a dog sled team. This is an ideal movie to watch with the kids. Mine laughed at the right places and were quiet in the right places. They gave it five stars. I am sure they will convince me to watch it with them again in a month or two. I can handle it.

There is an interactive game included on the disc that uses the remote to control a snowmobile. I had to wrestle with Sammy, my five-year-old, to get the remote back again. I won.
