Summary: Not too bad sequel
Review: "The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter" is a decent and on-par sequel to the original 1984 classic. Although it lacked the direction that acclaimed director Wolfgang Petersen(sho also helmed "Air Force One" and "The Perfect Storm"), I thought i t was still a nice little fantasy adventure film.

Jonathan Brandis was okay in his role as Bastian, but I feel that someone else could have done better in carrying the role. John Wesley Shipp probably did the best acting job of the whole cast in his portrayal of Bastian's father. However, his role was very limited. The only key cast member that returned from the original was Thomas Hill, who reprises his role as the bookstore owner Mr. Koreander. I feel this movie would have benefited from additional cast members from the orginal had returned to reprise their roles in this sequel. But I was glad to see a lot of characters from the original featured in this sequel, and some of the new characters were good too.

I found the plot to be rather depressing at times. Bastian is giving the Auryn necklace, but the evil sorceress Xayide, has cast a spell on the Auryn which causes Bastian to lose a memory everytime he makes a wish. Somes of the memories he loses are of his mother(it is explained that she died of cancer when Bastian was very young).

I thought Bastian's friendship with Atreyu was very unconvincing. Bastian's friendship with the bird Nimbly(a messenger of Xayide) was more convincing. Nimbly is a likable character, but his betrayal of Bastian was questionable.

I feel that the producers tried to make this movie too mainstream, which alienated fans of the book. It doesn't have the heart or magic the original had. "Neverending Story II" tries to be too much like other fantasy movies. It's a decent little movie and a decent sequel, but is a masterpiece compared to the stinker "NeverEnding Story 3", which ruined the "Never Ending Story" series. If you are a fan of fantasy adventure films, this is for you. If you liked the original, you may have mixed feelings about this movie. But "NES2" is still worth a look.

Summary: Johnathan Brandis should win an award
Review: An excellent film starring Johnathan Brandis! Johnathan Brandis did really good in this movie. This is a great sequel! Part one was good and this movie is good too. It's hard to make a good sequel with different actors, but the creator of this movie did it!

Summary: Every reading child should watch these.
Review: Being an avid reader since I was a child, I related to the stories closely. The Never Ending Story is a fantastic story, taking us to the realms of imagination and wonder. Demonstrating the wonder found within a good book. With the 'nothing' threatening to take it all away. When people don't read. Part II stays with the same wonderful use of your own imagination. I have seen both movies dozens of times. They are my most favourite movies. Don't ever buy number 3 it is aweful. They totally messed up with the whole thing, nothing close to 1 & 2. Enjoy make sure your kids see them.

Summary: PASS IT UP!
Review: BLEH! Although based on the second half of the original book, this movie hit rock bottom! Instead of wonderful fantasy, we were scared of the stupid bird and the evil queen! Not the gentle story we once knew! Too out of this world! If you wanna know what happens, just read the book instead of killing brain-cells on this flop!

Summary: Should have left well enough alone.
Review: Even if you were able to tolerate the first one after reading the (fabulous) book, the fact that you could even make it through this one is beyond amazing. I walked out of the theater when Neverending II was first released, but thought that maybe it might just be my snobbish teenage mind - only to find out while giving this a second shot on DVD that is was as horrid as I remembered. If sequels must be made, at least *try* to find someone who looks like the orginal screen play characters. The acting is poor to say the least, the story patchy. They desperately tried to capture the magic of the book and the parts of the story line that were left out of the first movie. They failed. If you must watch a film version of this otherwise fantastic story, go with the 1st film. In this case, first times a charm. Anything else is a curse.

Summary: Movie for the kiddies......
Review: For all you NES fans out there (And I don't mean a Nintendo), you might be a bit disappointed. As is tragic with many sequels, it is hard to capture the magic from the original. While part 2 features the critters and main character from the first, I found it to be more geared towards the kiddies this time. It didn't seem as dark and sinister as the previous movie.

However, all in all I had to give it 3 stars. Although not quite what I was hopeing for, it still provided the younger kids with entertainment while giving us older kids some much deserved peace and quiet :) So it ain't all that bad ;)

Summary: Whatever!
Review: I admit I was overjoyed when I heard of a sequel being made because there was more to the book than the first movie, but my enthusiasm took a nosedive when I saw this movie. The child actors could not act, and basically in a nut shell, the whole movie seemed to lack heart and imagination. (Ironically enough) If you're a true fan of the first movie and the book, STAY AWAY. If you're into those cheap Disney sequels that are churned out just to make money, this movie is for you.

Summary: Captivating
Review: I am 57 years old and have seen this movie about 10 times. My niece is 12 and has seen it probably 100 times. The movie has such a captivating flow that persons of any age can watch and be entertained without the fear of bad language, sex scenes, and modern violence popping up to give you an unpleasant surprise.

Summary: It is absolutely riviting!
Review: I definitely would want anyone to take advantage of this one! I enjoyed the part of asking the boy sebastian to get a name for the child-like-emperorous! I think this is very enjoyable and good for the minds who want fantacies!! END
