Summary: The songs in Secret of the Nimh
Review: I first saw this movie at age 3. I am twenty now, and the song: Dream by Day; can still be heard throughout my house, because I hum it alteast once a day. I have no children, but have already bought a copy of this movie (still wrapped) for my future children. This story of courage and compassion, is a truly cherished childhood memory for me, and I hope that it too can be shared in homes like mine.

Summary: Brisby Boo-Boo
Review: What is with this film? I was excited about this movie because I had just read the book and thought it would be just as good. It isn't. Parents, if your kids are old enough to read, have them read the book, not watch the movie. Besides, which would you rather have them do, read or sit in front of the tube? The book is Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

Summary: We Need More Mrs. Frisbies!
Review: This movie has got to have the most well written animated female character I've ever seen. A lead character who is not driven by trying to find her prince charming, and constantly whining through out the film. I'm so miserable! I need this! I want that! "Me, me, me!" but only by the desperate need to try and save the life of her youngest son.

Not a Princess, nor a Buxom blonde bomb shell, who looks more like she should be on the cover of "Hey, Dude!" magazine then innocently drawing water from a well in the woods. Nope, it took a tiny brown mouse in a tattered cloth to bring out THIS kind of sincere, truly caring, and very believable compassion.

I can't remember how many times I've seen this film but I always still get teary-eyed every time the scene where Mrs. Frisby is feeding the broth to Timothy plays. The song and that scene are just very touching.

If you've never seen this film please see it, and also try reading the book, it's more in depth as well as quite different than the movie in many ways, and some will say far better than the movie, but I recommend them both!

The only thing I would have liked to see is this movie released on DVD in wide screen format. For that reason I'm sticking with my old video copy. But in either format this is one to see!

Summary: Falls short of the mark.
Review: I remember O'Brien's novel as being a charming and well-written tale. If you haven't read the novel then you could easily watch this film all the way through and be left wondering "what the hell was all that about?" The voices are excellent and there's no doubting the visual style and wonderfully dark, gritty atmosphere which sets it apart from Disney's twee offerings, but it comes across as rather disjointed and underdeveloped. Some of the attempts at humour are also rather less than successful - "look, mother, it's another turkey".

Watchable, but if you're looking for serious animal-based animation of this kind then 'Watership Down' and 'Animal Farm' are far more worthwhile.

Summary: The best movie ever made.
Review: This movie is undoubtibly the most unbelevible movie I have ever seen. Not only was it the first cartoon that I ever saw other than a disney movie, (In my family that says something), but it had the best animation of a movie that I had ever seen. Any modern day movie, wiether it be live action, computer genorated, or hand drawn, it can never beat this movie. And the music is the best I have ever heard for a movie. I have bought this movie and I recommend it for anyone. This story was adapted from a book so that makes it good already. Definitly something you need to own.

Summary: The Greatest Motion Picture Ever...NOW DO VOLTRON!
Review: The Secret of Nimh is undoubtly the greatest film ever made and it's ashame that it is an animated film. Then again in this day it's no surprise considering how Hollywood only cares about big special FX. This was the one film when I saw at the age of 5 that stuck in my memory Big time. Then back in January, I saw it was being re-released. So I got it at Amazon.com where as just a week later Wal-Mart began to carry it. Did I get mad? Heck NO! Any amount of money is worth it to see this film. Heck with renting it! For any parents out there I implore you to let your children see this film(over 6 yrs old). The morals are impressive, the effects/scenery are mind- blowing(for 1982!). And being that its not a Disney film proves the point that the King of animation can't make the King of films. I can only hope Don Bluth will make the TRUE sequel to repair the horrific damge made by Nimh 2. And to think that the greatest film ever would give way to the worst film/and sequel ever. Now if only Bluth would make a Voltron and Thundercats film, I could then die a happy life.

Summary: Outstanding.
Review: Very few films have such widespread appeal as The Secret of NIMH. Boys and girls, young and old- anyone can take an hour-and-a-half out of their day to spend some time with Mrs. "Brisby", and it's all thanks to the wonderful art of the film. More than any other animated film in my memory, The Secret of NIMH uses vibrant, beautiful visuals to tell the story. Simply watching the animation is pure pleasure. However, the movie also features some of the most likable characters in any animated feature to date- Mrs. "Brisby" and her friend Jeremy the crow. This is a movie that can be watched over and over again through the years. Pick it up today.

Summary: An Innocent Strong Heart
Review: This is a lovely film that tells the tale of Ms. Brisby (yes...a mouse), who through the strenth of her heart and the purity of her spirit saves not only the lives of her family, but the lives of her friends as well.

Summary: It was an excellent kids film.
Review: This is an excellent child movie. It does require and adult to explain the plot or they will misss it.

Summary: disturbing stereotype of scientists!
Review: I use this film for a psychology and film graduate class I teach -- as an example of films that portray researchers (especially psychologists) as evil. Is this what we want to teach our children? NIMH stands for National Institute of Mental Health: There was research on rats, many years ago, to see if RNA from one rat could make an injected rat "smarter" (ie maze bright). Obviously the needles used were not twice as large as the rats, as in Secret of NIMH! This film portrays the scientists as evil and the "poor little caged animals" as tortured. It is an irresponsible presentation.
