Summary: Underrated Disney Masterpiece!
Review: What a terrific movie! I had forgotten how wonderful this movie was until we purchased it for our daughters. The music is stunning, and the voices are perfectly fit for the characters they serve. Especially noteworthy is Louis Prima as "King Louie". The score is beautiful as well, using much haunting alto flute playing. A masterpiece that deserves a place on everyone's video shelf!

Summary: My favorite
Review: If I had to pick my favorite Disney movie, it would be this one. Why, love the music!! Too bad it is a typical Disney DVD with no extras. Would have loved them.

Summary: The Bear Necessities
Review: This wonderful, delightful, joyful animated story of a young mancube that was orphaned by Shere khan as a baby.He was saved by Bagheera and brought to a wolf family and was raised as one of there own. About nine years later the man hating Shere Khan retured to that part of the jungle. The wolf clan decided that it would be best that Mowgli (the mancube) went back to the man village. Bagheera voluntered to bring him back. They encountered the sly snake that hypnotyze his pray, the army elephants that never forget, the wild orangatang king that lives in the temple, the beatle like voltuers, and you can't forget the great one Baloo who has a free loving spirit.

Summary: Welcome to the 'Jungle'
Review: Yet another in Disney's self proclaimed Masterpiece editions, The Jungle Book is a lot of fun but not one of Disney's best. Watch this video for some great songs and wonderful characters but please excuse the flimsy story which is all but cancelled out in the film's final scene. Still, the movement captured by the Disney animators, especially in the case of Bagheera, is a marvel to watch. With all these great characters (Baloo, Shere Kahn, King Louie wonderfully voiced by Louis Prima) and memorable songs (The Bear Neccesities) it's unfortunate that the story couldn't also have been worthwhile. Still, no one will resist adding this to their clam-shell collection before it's gone...for now at least.

Summary: It's just a bare necessity!
Review: The feature-length cartoons Disney continues to produce are fine films, but nowhere near as good as classics like The Jungle Book. Unburdened by the modern-day Disney habit of giving every film a heavy family-friendly moral message, the Jungle Book is just 100% pure fun, with a cool hero (Mowgli), entertaining friends (especially the bear Baloo) and some great villainous characters (most memorably Shere Khan the tiger). This movie was made years before Phil Collins or Elton John were drafted in as cartoon soundtrack composers, and the songs are just awesome - "The Bare Necessities", "I Wanna Be Like You" and Kaa the snake's hissed encouragement to "Trust in Me". Get this DVD while you can!

Summary: Classic! My favorite animated movie ...
Review: Walt's last project, and perhaps the finest animated script ever. Who could critisize the snappy Louie Prima, warm voice of Harris as Baloo the bear, or the unusual animation plot of a boy being fostered into manhood by a variety of morally(and immorally) oriented male animals. Although shot fairly flat compared to the more modern animations and films, the characteristic acting animation will never fail to enthral any viewer. The DVD isn't bad, but VHS will do in a pinch. Get it, especially if you have never seen it!

Summary: My favorite Disney film
Review: By far, this is my favorite Disney & what does it is the music. Some Disney films may have characters I love more with the great music, but this one does it. Well done by the Sherman Brothers.

Summary: not an introduction to kipling but disney
Review: if you want your child to enter the magical world of kipling, don't buy this dvd. This is the magic of disney at its best. Iremember reading kiplings books as a child, what an experience. But disneys version is just a little candy, that'll leave you the taste of wonderfully written songs sang by talented artists, and a story far from resembling its inspiration. but it is worth the investment

Summary: Di$ney, what is wrong with you?
Review: The Jungle Book was made in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.66:1, the same as The Little Mermaid. What I can't fathom is why Di$ney released The Little Mermaid properly letterboxed on DVD, but did not grant The Jungle Book this same respect.

I think I know why they did this. Di$ney already had a widescreen transfer of The Little Mermaid all ready to go, because just a few years earlier, they released a widescreen laserdisc of that film. But in the case of The Jungle Book, Di$ney would have had to do a complete remastering of the film, and they were simply too lazy. As a result, anyone who watches this DVD is missing approximately 16% of the picture. This is something I will not tolerate, and I refuse to buy this DVD. The Jungle Book is a wonderful film, and Di$ney screwed up bigtime by releasing it in a cropped 1.33:1 aspect ratio.

I'll bet that when The Rescuers comes to DVD, it will be in widescreen format. Do you know why? Because about a year ago Di$ney released a widescreen laserdisc of the film, so the transfer is all ready for DVD. Otherwise, I am pretty sure they would chuck out a "regular" 1.33:1 version.

Di$ney, if you make a DVD, make it in widescreen, or don't make it at all!

Summary: Another Disney money making venture
Review: I agree with some of the other reviews - especially that the DVD does not offer anything more! In fact, the VHS copy I have has a "Making of" which is not on the DVD! Disney has priced this DVD too high with nothing extra. The movie itself is classic and if you don't have it on VHS, get it on DVD. Still, I feel Disney is milking too much out of these limited re-issues; at the very least they could include extra features on the DVDs (I bet they will issue special edition DVDs down the road so that we will have to buy another copy!).
