Summary: Pleasantly Surprising
Review: I have never read any of the Harry Potter books so I didn't quite understand what the big deal was over the movie when it came out. But I decided to get it on DVD to see what all the hype was about. I was really quite surprised how much I enjoyed the film. It's such a charming family movie.
The best parts of the film were definitely the special effects. The actors who played Harry Potter and Ron were adorable and very likable. Ron and Harry's female friend Hermione, was a character who was simply annoying, but I suppose this was the point of her character. Alan Rickman as the puzzling, yet slimy Snape couldn't have been played any better.
From the music, to the cinematography, and great story, I just can't go on enough about Harry Potter. Surprising to me however, was the length of the movie, about 2 1/2 hours. A bit long for a children's movie, but the pace moved along really well, so I don't think anyone over 7 or 8 would be too bored. The extras on the DVD are pretty good too, especially the deleted scenes. You have to play a game to access them, but that's half of the fun.

Summary: I was surprised...
Review: I rented this film with a rather skeptical attitude, I admit. I just felt certain that all the popularity (and controversy) surrounding the film was without merit. I was pleasantly surprised. Harry Potter is a children's movie that adults can just as easily enjoy as well. Once in a while, you need to get away from the familiar existence of your everyday life and enter a magical world with a simple story. All I can say is cuddle up with your loved one and enjoy...

Summary: Entertaining film for all ages
Review: I never read any of the Harry Potter books, but my mother had read the first in the series and enjoyed it, so I treated my parents to an afternoon at the movies.

As my mother had already read the book, she knew in advance who the villain was... but as someone who hadn't read it, it came as quite a surprise.

The special effects are excellent, but are not constant... so this film may be a little too slow-paced and/or cerebral for tiny kids.

Fantasy is fun... and most people go to the movies not only for entertainment, but from escape. I won't go into a diatribe about "New Age" or Witchcraft influences... quite frankly, they are everywhere and I don't want to beat a dead horse... but aside from those concerns, a parent should be concerned with the trend in all child-targeted films (including this one) of making authority non-existent.

Harry Potter has been orphaned and growing up with hateful, loathesome relatives. Too many kids in our society live in blended families or other situations in which there is favoritism and/or verbal and/or emotional abuse.

Harry is "rescued" from his life as the unwanted child by being whisked away to Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Parents are not present, nor do they visit. The children at this school live in dorms on campus and there are several "forbidden" rooms that contain monsters or booby-traps and all children are informed that a visit to the library will result in certain death. That school is one scary joint! But the attitude of the film is "let's have fun" and "there are no consequences for disobeying authority" and "if you don't like the ways things are going, cast a spell."

We live in a very selfish society... and the story subtly gives the message that adults are only good for instruction in some areas, but can otherwise be ignored and not listened to.

Yes, it's "just a movie," but in a world where kids are kidnapped from their own bedrooms and terrorists are looming around the corner, kids tend escape further and further into fantasy and have less and less interest or desire for reality.

In a nutshell, if you're going to buy this movie for your kids, then you need to watch the film with them and talk to them about it and ask them questions about what they thought about it. Any movie, including this one, should not be used as a babysitter or as a substitute for exhibiting family values instead of just espousing them.

As for myself (an adult) and for my parents (in their 60s), we found the film to be entertaining, humorous, clever and a good way to escape... but we all agreed that we never needed to see it again. Some films (like Star Wars) can be seen over and over again... this is not one of those films... at least not for adults. Kids who obsess on Potter, et al, may feel differently.

Summary: What a load of fun!
Review: This is about the most fun movie since "The Wizard of Oz." I haven't read the books although most of my friends my age have, but I must admit I was skeptically about the movie. My friends that saw it recommended it to me said I would love it, but I still relented. However, I have recently seen it and WOW!, I was pleasently surprised. Man, this is a seriously fun and exciting movie. It's funny and serious and adventurous and that little girl who play Hermione Granger is cute too. This is a lot of fun and I think everyone should see it. I look forward to the Chamber of Secrets on November 15th.

Summary: Hogwart???... try Horrible!!
Review: I saw this movie thinking it was going to be the biggest thing since Star Wars, and can't believe the HYPE from such a Lousy Movie!! To think people actually said "Lord of the Rings was competition for THIS!! A Movie actually needs to be "GOOD" to have Competition. The only movie that compares to the entertainment and enjoyment of Harry Potter is "Ishtar". Brutal!

Summary: Just for kids
Review: If your kids are Harry Potter fans, they will like this or any other movie about Harry Potter.

For any other person who wishes to see a quality movie and not a character legend, this is a bad, boring, absurd and a waste of time.

Summary: Harry Potter Is AWSOME!Except my favorite parts got cut out
Review: I really enjoyed the movie.Especally when They are with Hagrid and he always says i shouldnt of told you that.Even though i knew that they had to cut some parts out they could have cut different parts out and showed more lessons! My favorite part in the book iswhen fred and george are talking before they get on the train. They didnt even put that part in it and it was the funniest part of the whole book. The movie could have been 10-15 minuts longer and they could of added those parts. And when they open the nimbus 2000 at the table wasnt it suupposed to be opened at the commom room in the boys dormitory? They also changed that when they meet fluffy its because of the midnight duel and nevil is there. They also didnt go on a changing starcase and what happened to the sinking step.Over all i think that the movie could have been much better i was so excited that there was a movie but when i saw a lot of parts were missing i was very dissapointed.

Summary: As was the book...
Review: The movie edition of this wonderful first installment in the Harry Potter series finally brings the imagined word pictures to life. Wonderfully directed, artistically put together, this great movie is good for everyone. One suggestion- always read the book before you watch any movie. Reading is knowledge.

Summary: Why it's so much fun to have movies like this at home
Review: I am a huge fan of the books and I don't think this movie lives up to them. I'm not saying that it's a bad movie, it's not, I'm just saying that there were things in the book that just couldn't be expressed on screen. It was a great movie, but there were so many changes from the book (and I do understand that there was a time limit on the movie)that I felt that you had to of read the book to understand what was going on in the movie. Although that isn't a problem for me, I had dragged my friends to see it and all I did the whole time was try to explain what was happening to them. I do believe though that the actors in the movie did an incredible job portraying their characters and conveying the central feeling of the story.

On the dvd I liked the games you could play to get to the deleted scenes, they give a very fun spin to the whole thing.

I know the name of my review is weird, it means this:
Putting a puzzle together is fun so you can see the whole picture at the end, but this movie is a puzzle that decided to put itself together and although it's almost complete and put together in the correct order there are some pieces that are missing and some that aren't even from this puzzle that are trying to get in, in all the wrong places, and the only thing you can do is yell at them and tell them what goes where and what shouldn't be there. Confusing? I know, it is isn't it?
