Summary: ALERT!
Review: I LOVE this movie, but a special edition with commentary and other extras will be out next year, so you may want to wait and not be forced to pay for this twice!

Summary: Excellent film / Lackluster DVD
Review: The Princess Bride is one of my all-time favorite films. Chases, escapes, revenge, true love... the film has something to charm everyone. MGM's DVD is a different story. While the audio is perfectly fine -- an acceptable 5.1 DD mix -- the video leaves much to be desired. Number one, the transfer is non-anamorphic widescreen... to me, this is something that is nearly inexcusable these days. Number two, the transfer just isn't very good. Note how badly the dark scenes in the Fire Swamp look on this disc. The video quality of the DVD is barely better than my old VHS. The final straw that breaks this camel's back: MGM is preparing a 16x9 enhanced special edition Princess Bride for 2001. How seedy of them. My advice: rent this disc and save your money for the better version yet to come.

Summary: Wonderful fantasy getaway for any age
Review: I have grown up watching 'Princess Bride,' and I still haven't gotten tired of it. The charcaters are well written and likable, even for children. The typical fantasy of princesses, castles and swordfights all come true in a delightful movie that will help anyone escape from the real world. I highly recommend it for children and any adults that are still kids at heart.

Summary: 'Please...,' he said,
Review: i've only given it 4 stars because with a film as well regarded as the Princess Bride, they've released a DVD with really no additional features (it has different languages and the movie trailer). the movie transfer is clean and sharp, though. i would give the movie itself a '5'. the soundtrack is good, too.

Rob Reiner does an admirable job transferring the William Goldman book to the screen... a difficult task since this was Goldman's favorable book (written for daughters) and my understanding was that at the time Goldman didn't care much for the movie version.

the movie has everything and contains some of the neatest dialogue centered around the idea of true love...

'why didn't you wait for me?' 'they said you were dead' 'death cannot stop true love, all it could do is delay it for awhile.' 'i will never doubt again.' 'there will never be a need.'

the casting (and acting) was superb, although Andre the Giant as Fezzik is a little hard to understand. the fencing duel was great fun (fencers alert, all the disengages he did at the end made it all the more interesting).

this movie is great as it gives women the illustion that i'm sensitive (HA!) meanwhile, i'm mentally recording all the insults used in the film for my repertoire ('i'll explain, and i'll use small words so that you'll be sure to understand, you warthog faced buffoon... it's like i'm watching the Army of Darkness! ).

really, this is a very very good movie and i'm sure it would become one of the most replayed film in your collection.

Summary: In Instant Classic!
Review: "The Princess Bride" is one of those rare films that becomes an instant classic upon its release. A wonderful love story mixed with comedy and adventure, it is a fun movie the whole family can enjoy. From the "Fire Swamp" to the storming of the castle director Rob Reiner does a wonderful job of leading us through this delightful fairy tale. With a great cast including Cary Elwes (Westley), Billy Crystal (Miracle Max), Peter Falk (Grandpa), a very young Fred Savage and the late Andre the Giant (Fezzic). This is a warm hearted, fun, enjoyable film that I have loved for years, and I know you will too.

Summary: for all ages
Review: "Inconceivable." A movie that that truly can be viewed multiple times with and by kids of all ages. Have watched this film with my sons on their birthdays for the past ten years and it is a constant delight. Something for everyone. A treasure not to be missed.

Summary: Don't buy this DVD ... .YET
Review: This is a nearly flawless film, and one of my all-time favorites. But you may want to wait before buying it on DVD. Let me explain ...

This DVD has NO extras. It is simply a bare-bones, non-anamorphic release, and one that is only marginally better than the laserdisc or VHS in picture and sound quality. Before you run out to buy this disc, you should know that MGM is currently working on a special edition DVD of this film, with anamorphic widescreen for release NEXT year. That means if you are a fan of the film, as I am, you are going to have to buy it again next year to get the better DVD.

Why would MGM release it now as a bare-bones disc at all, you ask? MONEY. They know you will buy it now, and they know you will buy it later too.

Buy it if you must, but consider yourself warned.

Summary: Stop that rhyming, I mean it.... Anybody want a peanut?
Review: An instant classic, great story, excellent lines (there's a shortage of perfect breasts in the world, it would be a pity to damge yours). I remember seeing this movie back in the fourth grade... 12 years ago... and being Wesley for Halloween. This is a movie that will please everyone.... romance, sword play, gaints, drunks, love, war... sounds like an epic story doesn't it?

Summary: The Princess Bride
Review: I have had all formats of this movie (Beta, VHS, Laserdisc and DVD). I keep wearing them out. This is our families favorite movie. The DVD version is clearer than the Laser version. Worth the money. If you love this movie as I do, treat yourself and get the book. Amazon has it and it is a blast. You will learn more about the caracters and history of Florin and Gilder.

Summary: This is the best movie!
Review: This is one of my all time favorite movies! It is one of the few movies, that was originally a book, that really transfered well. I loved the book. I have about 4 different copies of it in my house. And I wasn't sure if the movie would be any good, but it was excellant! I think everyone should see this movie at least once!
