Rating: Summary: Every little girl's fantasy Review: Mara Wilson steals your heart as Matilda, who is a brilliant gifted little girl, ignored by her idiot parents, discovers she has a special gift. Danny DeVito is wonderful as the con man father and Pam Ferris as Miss trunchbull is fantastic. A must for every little girlsand boy's collection.
Rating: Summary: Visually delightfull but sometimes too grotesque Review: I've seen Matilda in the school on a very small TV screen. So I wasn't able to enjoy all of it's visual power that was carefully directed by Danny de Vito. Technically and visually the movie succeeds on every level. The only weak point is that the story is often too grotesque.
Rating: Summary: Very hillarious Review: This movie always made me laugh when Miss. Trunchbull pick on a student. Matilda got a bad parents. I think you should watch it and laugh. Great for any age, except if a person is mean, they should not watch it because they might learn is from Mis. Trunchbull and Matilda parents.
Rating: Summary: Any child will adore Matilda!!!!! Review: Danny DeVito is wonderful! This movie is fabulous for children of any age. I babysit several children of several different ages. Between the two 3 year olds I tried this on up to ten and twelve year olds, I can say first hand that all kids love this movie. It is a magical adventure with an unexpected twist to it, and one that can be witnessed without tiring over and over again! I recommend this movie to anybody!
Rating: Summary: Definitely NOT for "kids of all ages." Review: For actors, director, storyline--I have waited a long time to see MATILDA. It wasn't until my daughter reported that HER daughter was made fun of in class (kindergarten) when she became upset and frightened by the film. So I watched the video. Truthfully, it is one of the grimmer fairy tales I've ever encountered. In classical fairy tales, the bad guys -- the witches, the ogres, the giants, the trolls -- all have some distinguishing feature which makes them stand out, be recognizable as DIFFERENT from people we, and our children, see everyday. In Matilda, the only character who fits the classic mold is the school Principal. But the story begins long before Matilda goes to school. Her everyday ogres and giants (yes, even De Vito) are her parents. When such is not part of a child's normal experience, as it should not be, the concept can be almost traumatic to very young children ... those without adequate experience with the inadequacies and inequalities of everyday life. How soon do we want our children to learn that it's still a Dickensian world . . . for the small, the weak, the handicapped, the very young, the very old. On the other hand, there is that lesson exactly; yet I give it a one star because I feel that life is hard enough, goes by fast enough, that children should be encouraged to learn the meanings of love, security, joy --as primary values, not in consequence of hate, fear, sorrow.
Rating: Summary: Delightfully Dickensian Review: I recently had the experience of viewing the movie with my eight year old daughter. I am not sure who enjoyed it more, she or I. A welcome escape from cartoon musicals pretending to represent classic tales while actually venues for promoting expen sive toys, clothing and have to have gimmicks. If you have not seen it-rent it first. It will not disappoint you.
Rating: Summary: A great movie for any kid and their parents as well! Review: I read the book "Matilda" and saw the movie too.The movie was just as good as the book-not exactly better. All of the actors did a really good job and resembled the characters in Roald Dahl's book.I'd recommend this hilarious movie to almost anyone!
Rating: Summary: Delightful and fun for kids of all ages Review: I read Matilda and was pleasantly surprised by this cute version of one of my favorite books. Although it does not follow the text very closely, the spirit of Matilda is still there. Mara Wilson does an excellent job as Matilda and the rest of the cast does a simarlarily good job in thier roles. This movie is great for kids and even adults! This movie is a must for any movie collection.
Rating: Summary: hallioras Review: great fun just as good as the book. a great family film wonderful acting andit ends the way you want it to. I reccommend everyone to see this film. You probably will laugh about every joke it is just hallioras. A great movie for people of all ages. You schould see it.
Rating: Summary: A must see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This movie has a unique magical twist to it. Danny once again has done it. He fits his part perfectly. He plays the snooty father of a young girl with an amazing brain and imagination.Danny refuses to buy her a book and encourage her amazing mind, so she gets even.
