Summary: I loved it!!
Review: I liked "Ever-After: A Cinderella Story" because Danielle (Drew Barrymore) is a strong character. She knows how to defend herself physically and speaks her mind to both men and women in all stations, which sometimes does her in. That means the character Danielle isn't flawless. Even though Danielle lies to save one of the servants and passes herself off as a noblewoman-cousin living with her stepmother and step-sisters, her intentions are true to her nature. I plan to rent it again in the future!

Review: A lovely film in every sense of the word. Drew Barrymore gives a terrific performance as "Cinderella", a young woman who would be a heroine in any era: compassionate, intelligent, sweet yet tough, vulnerable yet self-assured. Anjelica Huston makes the wicked stepmother a semi-understandable human being, a woman who was (selfishly) looking out for the monetary interests of her own daughters. Prince Charming insists on marrying for love and companionship, not to form strategic alliances. A little anachronistic? Perhaps, yet, as Erica Jong once stated, every era has people who are so forward-thinking, so positive and progressive, that were they portrayed in literature or film they would seem out of place. Wonderful movie. As usual, I save my 5-star rating for the real giants, but this one comes very close.
