Summary: The Muppets were there but their soul seemed elsewhere.
Review: I'm a big fan of the Muppets who used to watch The Muppet Show on TV regularly, and I consider the "Muppet Christmas Carol" to be a genuine masterpiece.I was very dissapointed when I watched this on TV last night. The humor seemed forced. The "I traded in my prize possession to buy you a gift.." exchange was somewhat funny the first time, but pretty unfunny the second time around. That tipped me off that something was going wrong. A few moments later, I clearly saw Beaker's hands on a window sill, so I could see the "window closing on fingers" gag coming a mile away, and so it wasn't very funny when it happened. My wife, another big Muppets fan, remarked "this is dry" about 20 minutes into the movie, regarding the human actors. (Then it looked like Pepe the Prawn had taken over as the leading character. I'd like to see him get stir-fried.) About ten minutes later, she said "this is sick" so we turned it off. I never thought that would happen. So, forced, repeated jokes by the Muppets and dry acting by the humans did us in after 30 minutes. There were some great one-liners, but the spontaneity, charm and magic seemed to be missing. Quite the dissapointment.

Summary: A Modern Muppet Twist on a Christmas Classic
Review: I'm not really going to go too much into the plot; I will just say it is a modern muppet version of "It's a Wonderful Life" with some other movies thrown in the mix :) This movie has a lot of big names and guest appearances such as Whoppi Goldberg, Joan Cusack, and David Arquette just to name a few, plus all of the muppets! The DVD version also has muppet bios, bloopers, and deleted scenes - although not as entertaining as I had hoped, but still nice little extras. If you love the muppets, I would highly recommend adding this movie to your collection.

Summary: Worst Muppet Production Ever!
Review: I am a HUGE fan of the Muppets and Sesame Street, which is why this particular video is such an incredible disappointment. The trademark hillarity is gone and the parodies are cringingly bad. This is bad enough to wake Jim Henson from the dead to rescue his beloved Muppet creations from the truly horrible dialogue and plot devices in this piece of garbage. I made the mistake of playing this video for my two-year-old daughter because I trusted the Muppet name. Not only are the jokes and the acting completely lame, but the proliferous inclusion of adult-themes and inuendos is totally inappropriate for a family video. I'm a pretty laid back person, but I cannot in good conscience allow my 2-year-old to watch Miss Piggy as a phone-sex call girl and Scooter wearing an S&M outfit dancing in a nightclub cage; all to demonstrate what would have become of the Muppets if Kermit had never been born. What idiot thought it was a good idea to sleazily sexualize these wonderful Muppets who have (up until now) been loved by millions for their good nature and childlike approach to life?! If you are looking for a "newer" Muppet movie to enjoy, try Muppets From Space. It's all about Gonzo searching for his ancestry and discovering he's from outerspace. The movie is hillarious, acting is great (Jeffrey Tambor is phenomenal), and the soundtrak has me AND my two-year-old dancing in the living room.

Summary: Dead Muppets Walking
Review: I have enjoyed the soul and spirit of the Muppets for years. Viewing this Muppet Christmas special has convinced me that the soul has died. The Muppets in this TV movie have the moves of old, and the story line should have worked, but the movie is lifeless and the Muppets have no spirit and no character. We cannot really care for any of them. I say this with sadness, but warn away any who remember the warmth and love of the Muppets of old.
Instead, get the Muppet Movie, Muppets Take Manhattan, and The Great Muppet Caper. Two other good Muppet Christmas specials are also available: The Muppet Christmas Carol and John Denver and the Muppets - Rocky Mountain Holiday (now a bit dated, but still great fun).

Summary: Miss Piggy: Fat or Thin? Just Right - Like this movie.....
Review: I borrowed that Miss Piggy line from one of the bonuses on the DVD. It was too classic to not share.....just like the rest of this movie - silly, heartwarming and great for multi-age groups.
"We are working for a dream!" says Kermit, his heart ready to save the Muppet theatre in time for their Christmas "Moulin Scrooge" extravaganza starring his long-time love Miss Piggy. Standing right in his way is Rachel Bidderman, played with villainous panache by Joan Cusack.
My three and seven-year-olds enjoyed the story-line as much as I, only their highlights were much different than mine. I loved the references to the Gift of the Magi, Burl Ives in Rudolph, It's a Wonderful Life and the line (from the Burl Ives snowman) "but wait - I am a part of the holiday collective consciousness!" Emma, the seven year old, howled when she saw one of the Muppets perpetually stuck to a light-post a la Flick in "A Christmas Story."
William Macy as a "heavenly bureaucrat" is hilarious (loved the line "What's next, are we all going to wear colior?" and David Arquette plays Daniel as a realistic-cartoony character.
There are so many subtle nuances - it is a treat for ALL ages, accessible at whatever level the viewer is in so that parents and children (grandparents, teens, aunts, uncles, etc) can all enjoy it.
The bonus features on the DVD are classic. I rolled on the floor when I saw "Inside Pepe's Theatre", a take off on "Inside the Actor's Studio" - interviewing director Kirk Thatcher. I also loved the Deleted Scene "Baron Von Scrooge".
This is definitely a DVD you will want to have on your shelf to break out for those days during the holiday season. I know I will enjoy it for years to come.

Summary: Fun For All Ages (& Species)
Review: The Muppets are famous for delivering programs that are entertaining for children, yet accessible to both teens and adults. You can always expect consistent winks and nods to the older viewers, making their productions more appealing than, say, Barney.
The latest Muppet Christmas offering is no exception to their established brand of entertainment. Kids will love watching Kermit and company work together to save their beloved theater from the likes of Rachel Bitterman (as played by the wickedly funny Joan Cusack). Adults will find humor in the moments that are included just for them, like cracks about corporate synergy and contemporary life.
Some individuals have taken issue with "God" being portrayed by an African American woman. In my opinion, those individuals are over-reacting to a representation of a higher power that differs from their own preconceived notions. In my opinion, Ms. Goldberg delivers a performance that is both mature and respectful.
Overall, I give my thumbs up to this funny, family-friendly holiday film. On a side note, the DVD extras are fantastic and make this disc worth owning.

Review: This Muppet movie is definitely not for the kiddies and should not have been marketed in this genre. Quite frankly, we adults gravitate to the Muppets to rekindle the kid in us! On that note ... WHEN IS KERMIT THE FROG IN "THE CHRISTMAS TOY" GOING TO BE RELEASED ON DVD????

Summary: Worst Special Ever!
Review: Let me start by saying that I am the biggest muppet fan and truly love Jim Hensons works. This movie however is a true travesty ans should never have been made. Way too much sexual innuendo in this movie! The jokes are is very poor taste for the muppets and thy should be held in a higher reguard.
Mind you, this is coming from a man who likes howard Stern, animal house and numerous other off color comedy works but the muppets going to this level is not right. hopefully, Jim Henson's kids are as mortified as he would be and now that they have taken back the company things will change. Avoid this one!

Summary: Involved Parent!
Review: The movie wasn't spectacular, but it was passable Christmas Muppet fair. However, the reviewer who was offended by the Propecia joke is even more stupid than the film was. Propecia is a hair loss medicine NOT a prostate medicine... I repeat... NOT a prostate medicine. God Lord, when you shut off that movie after 30 minutes did your children hit you over the head with your DVD Player? Yours is one of the most dim-witted reviews I've read in some time. It's not fine art but it's certainly NOT offensive! I'd let my kids watch it any time they pleased.

Review: I love the Muppets and used to watch The Muppet Show each time it was on, so I was thrilled to hear about another Muppet movie. I thought that the Muppet Christmas Carol was great, and I was looking for more like-minded entertainment. This was not it. The comic insult dog does not belong in a Muppet special. Nor does a scene that's a parody of Moulin Rouge (complete with Piggy saying "Will you sleep with me tonight?" to Kermit in French). I was greatly disappointed by this movie. Stick with the old classics -- this one is not one of them.
