Rating: Summary: a wonderful show Review: Although the DVD hasn't been released yet, I have a copy of this wonderful tv special on video, so let me be the first to write a review. This special is exactly what it promises to be: John Denver taking the entire muppet gang on a camping trip. You see them hiking, fishing and building a camp. John also takes Rowlf flying and tries to help him get rid of the hick-ups by doing acrobatic stunts. At the end of the day everyone gathers round the campfire to tell stories and sing songs. At one point, Kermit's nephew Robin is feeling sad about being so small and then John reminds him how precious it is to be young and see the world with innocent eyes by singing "Catch Another Butterfly" to him. At the end of the day he sings Robin to sleep with the sweet lullaby "No One Like You". Rocky Mountain Holiday features some well known traditional songs, as well as some Denver standards like "Poems, Prayers and Promises" and "Grandma's Feather Bed". There is also one song that John wrote especially for this occasion. It's called "Durango Mountain Caballero" and most Denver fans agree that it's one of the best he's ever written. All in all, this DVD will undoubtedly prove to be money well spent, not only for Muppet fans and John Denver fans alike, but really for everyone who's able to look at the world with wonder and see the simple beauty that is always there for each and every one of us.
Rating: Summary: What a joy to discover this DVD! Review: Having been a John Denver fan for more than 20 years, I was delighted to discover this DVD. I'd never seen the original show, and it has quite a few songs I've never heard or seen John sing, which was really lovely. He seems to be having a great time, and the Muppets are always fun. This would be a great gift for any JD fan, or anyone with kids, since it's very kid oriented, but not boring for adults. What a sweet surprise. Only question: why have the songs not been released on a CD?
Rating: Summary: John Denver & The Muppets together again! Review: Hi there! I'm Frank, and I'm fillin' in for Zaggy while he celebrates the yuletide with his family! Boy, is he lucky-- MY dad usually celebrates Christmas by kickin' me outta the house so I don't embarrass him in front of the visiting relatives! Yeah, my pop can be an evil, cold-hearted S.O.B. most of the time-- but he means well...Anyhow, I've decided to do my review on this Rocky Mountain Holiday dee-vee-dee thingy with John Denver and the Muppets that Zaggy gave me for Christmas. Not being up on the new-fangled digital video tecknagolical doohickeys they got out nowadays (heck, I'm still trying to figure out how to program my Betamax machine), at first I thought this was some kind of CD featuring the music of John Denver with the Muppets in an oversized cover case. Fortunately, Ro'y-- my good buddy and boss at the card 'n' comic shop I work at-- told me that this thing had moving picture things in it too, just like a movie! It's like going to a... a movie theatre or something like that! And watching a... motion picture filmy thing! But without the sticky floors, or that heavy-breathing guy who always sits right behind me and mumbles something about killin' everybody in the theater. What won't they think of next! Anyway, after my shift ends Ro'y throws the DVD into the PlayStation 2 we've got hooked up to the security camera monitor in the back, and gets it to play. Oh boy, what a show! As usual, John Denver totally rocked me out, as did the backup singing and silly antics of his Muppet companions as they camped out in the Colorado wilderness! Even those old geezers Statler and Waldorf tagged along to heckle the gang... from a safe distance of course! The whole show's an almost non-stop array of down-home country tunes, especially the second half as J.D. and his cohorts warm themselves by the campfire. If there ever was a more perfect John Denver-Muppet team-up than this, I've yet to see it! The only thing that would've made this better is a guest appearance by "Oh, God!" co-star George Burns! But even though I enjoyed watching the show, I was also a bit saddened by it all. Seeing John Denver perform and hearing Jim Henson doing the voices of half the Muppet cast (especially Kermit) made me a bit morose over the fact that both of these legendary talents had tragically shuffled off this mortal coil well before their time. And the Muppets ain't been the same ever since... it's kinda like The Twilight Zone without Rod Serling. Or Star Wars without George Lucas. Or The Three Stooges without "Curly Joe" DeRita and Shemp... G'Bye
Rating: Summary: good, but I was wanting the Christmas holiday one... Review: I got this elsewhere other than amazon, and when I ordered it, I thought it was the Christmas *holiday* video. I LOVED that one when it was on TV many years ago, and was hoping to find that one to share with my daughter now. We have the Christmas cd and tape cassette (which has more songs than the cd does) and I really would love to find it on VHS or DVD. If anyone knows where I can find that, please let me know ( mdnightwind@yahoo.com ) As for this video though, it's really pretty good. I was so bummed out because it was not what I was meaning to order. But it was still well worth the money, once I was over my disappointment. So I recommend it for any Muppets fan. Your kids will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Muppets are a dissappointment Review: I LOVE the Muppets and John Denver. BUT, for some reason Jim Henson and Sony decided not to include the flying sceen with John Denver and Rowlf. I am aware that that is how John Denver was killed, BUT, don't mess with a CLASSIC..........
Rating: Summary: Classic Muppest must have Review: I remeber watching this when it was on network television, and with help from the beta, it was recorded and watched over and over again. Its a great movie with classic songs that you don't hear anywhere anymore.

Rating: Summary: Classic Muppest must have Review: I was looking for a CD sountrack of this movie when I encountered the DVD (I still listen to the tape I have from my childhood). I was delighted to see it rereleased. It is filled with classic Muppets humor and wonderful music. Even with the slightly out of tune Miss Piggy, all of the songs are fun, positive, and easy to sing to. The movie contains songs great for kids like "Grandma's Feather Bed" and "She'll be Coming Around the Mountain When She Comes" and melodic favorites like "Catch another Butterfly" and "Rocky Mountain Caballero" for adults. A Must have for everyone's collection!
Rating: Summary: I' m moving to Colorado! Review: I'm sorry that the other reviewer purchased the incorrect title, but if you truly are a fan, you'd know which one you are looking at. I purchased this for my nieces and nephews who used to watch this special over and over (we had it on a Beta tape), and along with their grandpa (who is no longer with us) would sing along with all the songs! This Christmas was a trip down memory lane, bringing laughter and tears as we all watched and remembered how simple our lives were back then, and what we truly miss about it now. Hope the John Denver Christmas Holiday comes out soon.
