Rating: Summary: The Road To El Dorado Review: I loved the movie in general, but was disgusted with the gratuitous sex scene, and the typical scantily-clad woman. Why its necessary to throw that into a kid's movie is beyond me, but I am very unhappy about it. As an adult, I found the movie to be highly entertaining. My opinion is that it never should have been marketed for kids.
Rating: Summary: the greatest animated movie ever Review: ok this movie is so cool. i love every minute of it all 7 times that i have seen it. the songs are really good (although i am not a fan of elton john). the animation looks awesome. the jokes are really funny. lots of memorable lines. quite a few adult type jokes that keep older audiances interested.altogether a really awesome movie
Rating: Summary: GO FOR THE GOLD Review: I've seen this marvel of animation three times on the big screen and just recently purchased the dvd, and enjoyed it once again. The character and background designs and story stylings bring a maturity much needed in animated films. Dreamworks has got something going for them, and have proven themselves a worthy competitor in the animated film genre. Although Disney has countered with a superb hit in "Emperor", El Dorado's immaculate use of light and shadow, color and texture in each and every frame makes this a beautiful film from beginning to end!
Rating: Summary: Where The Life Ends Review: Two swindlers get their hands on a map to the fabled city of gold, El Dorado. Their paln goes bad and the rogues end up lost at seaafter a number of misfortunes. Oddly enough, they end up on the shores of El Dorado and are worshiped by the natives for their foreign apperance.
Rating: Summary: More than a cartoon... Review: It sounds corny, but just because a movie is animated doesn't mean it's your warm fuzzy cartoon. I love this movie so much... I can already tell this review is going to be awful. I can't do the movie justice. It's a really sweet story, I can totally identify with the last couple of reviews - You can fall in love with the characters (Miguel's better, I totally agree). I read a review that criticizes Elton John's songs on the soundtrack, and I just don't get that. I love the soundtrack, I ran out and bought it as soon as I could, I still listen to it, what, a year later? It's a great movie, that's all I can say. Just give it a chance. Don't look at it as a cartoon, take it seriously. It deserves it.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not an instant classic Review: I must admit that this is the funniest animated movie I've seen in a while (but my brother who saw it in March had already told me every single joke in the movie- and he just repeated another one). But unlike Titan A.E., The Prince Egypt or other recent animated films, this one doesn't have much to add to animation. I probably would have been in love with this film three years ago, so if your looking for a gift for a 6 to 10 year old, buy it!
Rating: Summary: The Road to El Dorado- better than Disney Review: If you have young children they will love the opening sequence. It consists of brightly colored images of Aztec and Mayan art. It was a bit unsettling for me however, because I thought this would be the style of the movie. However, I was wrong and the movie is great. The dvd is packed with extra features, and well worth the money. The cast and crew, are fantastic, the music is great. The music is done by the same team that did the Lion King, and they add immensely to the enjoyment of the film here. Dreamworks SKG is the new king of animation.
Rating: Summary: Road to El Dorado commentary Review: This story of the two masters of mischief is a great one and inspired me back to the days of the Great Stefanos and their travels in the Flipppity Five! I highly recommend this movie to all followers! It has everything an aspiring "trickster" could hope for!
Rating: Summary: Road to El Dorado Review: I liked this. It reminded me of the Great Stefano Brothers from the Flippity Five series.
Rating: Summary: Exploring the Road to El Dorado Review: I first saw DreamWork's second animated film (after "The Prince Of Egypt") in theatrical relaese and, much like the recent Fox Animation film Titan AE and Warners' "The Iron Giant", realised that here was yet another feature that had been totally marketed in the wrong way. Expecting some serious "Pocahontas"-like drama based around the time of Cortez, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that this was a a colorful, exciting and very funny romp, with the comedy paring of Kevin Kline and Ken Branagh sheer chemisty. Their interaction is a joy to take part it, and I was swept along the story until it reached it's logical conclusion (after all, this is still partly a kids movie)! The only real weak links were Rosie Perez's Chel, who's character was just not drawn in enough detail (excuse the pun!) and the placing of a ballad towards the end of the film. Otherwise the songs (by Elton John and Tim Rice) zips the story along lke Phil Collins did for "Tarzan", the only other drawback was that the song "16th Century Man" from the soundtrack CD is not included in the film (but is a better song than "The Trail We Blaze"). This DVD special edition includes, like "Prince Of Egypt" and "Chicken Run", a director commentary, trailers and a "Making of", allowing the viewer to explore this underrated film in more detail. A hark back to the "Road To..." movies of the Hope and Crosby era, "Road to El Dorado" is more than well worth adding to your animation collection. Ditto "Titan AE" and "The Iron Giant", all Disney-standard features in spirit if not name!
