Rating: Summary: Prince of Egypt was better Review: Overall, it was ok. But my two main problems were: 1.) On a personal standpoint, I love Kevin Kline and especially Jeff Goldblum...I can't stand Rosie Perez. Errg. She annoys me to no end. It just ruined it for me, whenever she was in any scene. 2.) Katzenburg try to say he believed this was Tim Rice's and Elton John's best yet, music wise...I didn't find the music appealing at all. It sounded like ripped off Lion King. Lion King and Aida were so much better music wise. El Dorado's music just wasn't as entertaining or memorable. I will always remember Written In the Stars, Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight?...But this movie's songs, no. That song the two sing when they are trying to get away from the guards, at the beginning of the movie, reminded me of Aladdin's One Jump Ahead. I just thought they could have done better. Animation, story, humor, and voice actors (besides Rosie), were all good. But those two facts just ruined the movie for me.
Rating: Summary: A Golden Opportunity Review: Do not listen to mainstream critics who hated this film. I laughed the entire way through, not something I can write about Disney's output since "The Lion King." While kids may not get too involved in this, adults will find plenty to be entertained by. It is too bad this was not shot in live action, as Branagh and Kline make a great team, and the animators here captured their facial expressions majestically. I highly recommend this, and do not let the PG rating deter you. The brief bare backside scene is harmless, and I heard only two words I wished my three year old did not know. I have seen worse on prime time network TV dung like "Temptation Island" or "Survivor."
Rating: Summary: Possibly the road to El Disaster, but I thought it was OK Review: This movie was pretty good. The plot was okay, but it wasn't as funny as, say, Toy Story. It is basically the story of two men (Miguel and Tulio) who set off to find El Dorado, the city of gold. When they finally find El Dorado (through a series of amusing events) the people think they are gods. Tulio is wooed by the gold and the attractive Chel, and he wants to return to Spain. Miguel falls in love with the city and its people and wants to stay. How they resolve it has a nice ending. What I thought was nice was that the movie can totally have a sequel, according to the way it ended. I especially liked the scene where they play ball with a rolled-up armadillo. It's a cute movie, but not that funny, so don't expect a big laugh, although people have differing opinions. All in all it deserves the 4 stars I gave it.
Rating: Summary: Surprising Review: I don't pay any attention to critics, and I am not ashamed ot admit that , at age 18 , I went to see this movie at the theatres. I loved it.. I'm sure you'll agree , but what surpirised me the most about this movie is that , for the first time , Cortez was portrayed as the evil murderer that he actually was.The way he was drawn is so different from other adaptations of Europeean explorers , such as John Smith , Columbus , ets. Cortez looks and acts evil. Kudos to you , Dreamworks
Rating: Summary: Stupendous! Review: Here is a terrific movie, centered around the egregious and incredibly destructive trek that Cortez undertook to the New World. Eldorado is the what he was looking for; a city of gold. This is a really fun movie which tells the story of two adventurers (Julio & Miguel) who accidently stow-away on one of Cortez' ships. They are all that stands in the way of the ruthless Cortez discovering the mythical lost city of gold. The film is well done all the way around. The cast boasts the distinctive voices of Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline (as the two heros) as well as James Edward Olmos. Another Hans Zimmer / Elton John collaboration (with lyrics by Tim Rice), the soundtrack is top-notch & worth buying on CD. I would highly recommend this film for the entire family. It will bring hours of enjoyment to all who view it. Too bad Voltaire is not around to see this one!!
Rating: Summary: Don't be discouraged by the reviews Review: I'm a huge fan of both Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branaugh, and had been looking forward to taking my three children to see this when it came out. The reviews were so uniformly abysmal, however, that I gave it a miss and even waiting a while before renting it. Maybe we're easily entertained, but my entire family (including a seven-, five-, and three-year-old) loved it so much that I bought it after renting it -- which I've never wanted to do before. The kids are constantly acting out parts from it, and even I am willing to see it again (for the fourth time)!
Rating: Summary: We just can't get enough of this film. Review: I read the main review by the professional critic and I must say, I disagree with him completely. My son, 2, asks to see this film over and over again. In an interesting twist, my father, who is very selective about the films he will watch, enjoyed it as well and didn't even mind seeing it 3 times in four days (I have a toddler, remember!) Anyway, the musical score is catchy and the story itself is fun. Definately worth watching.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie! Review: Usually, I'm not one to go see Animation movies. But, this one looked interesting to me, so I went to go see it along with my little brother. We both loved it. The animation was spectacular. The songs were great. I loved the jokes. Some were probably more along the line of adults, so really anyone can like this movie. When it came out, we bought it. My brother watches it almost everyday. For a Dream Works film, it is one of the best animated movies of the year!
Rating: Summary: Beats Disney animation! Review: I'm a GREAT fan of Disney animation - have almost all of their top titles - but The Road to Eldorado impressed me in such a positive way that I was surprised. It looke like the very best Disney ever, except for the little fact that it was not from Disney. The colors, detail, use of 3D and special effects are astonishing. Add to this four charming characters and a well developed storyline and you have a very entertaining title. Put some extras, a very well cared of transfer to digital and your recipe for an invaluable DVD is ready. Like animation? Relax and let yourself be amused by The Road to Eldorado. It has the ability to surpass the expectations of young and old audiences.
Rating: Summary: Extremely entertaining animated movie--and great DVD! Review: This film was unjustly ignored in its theatrical run, but is worth owning on DVD for anyone who loves great animation. Dreamworks pulled out the stops for this one. It's a spectacular and fun-filled film that works not just for the kids (I have a 4 year old, and he loves it), but also for the adults. The banter between Miguel and Tulio, excellently voiced by Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branaugh, is always fun, and the side characters are also a hoot. In particular the bad guy is a twisted and amusingly sick character. Also, the music by Hans Zimmer is great, and Elton John's songs grow on you (many consider it one of his best albums of recent years). As a DVD it's also a first class production. The picture and sound quality are outstanding, and it's packed with extras. There's a directors' commentary, a good making-of film, an Elton John music video, etc. If you like great animation, buy this one--you won't regret it.
