Summary: By an adult who thought it was fabulous.
Review: I'm 32 and I'm not ashamed to say I loved this movie! I was pleasantly surprised by it - by the humor, beautiful visuals and the clear message of putting value on friendship. I never stopped admiring how much the star characters resembled Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh (who do the voices). Their acting ability and humor were just thriling. This movie is just wonderful all around - one of the few cartoons I've purchased for my own collection.

Summary: I enjoyed this movie to no end!
Review: I've seen this movie about 6 times on HBO, and I love it. I usually like Disney movies better, but this Dreamworks picture takes the cake. I have always been a fan of Kenneth Brannagh (he plays Miguel in the movie), and I think he plays a wonderful animated character. Kevin Kline (Tulio in the movie) and Kenneth Brannagh are marvelous together. Yes, I will admit there are some scenes and phrases that are not meant for children, but my son seemed to like it anyway. I also believe Elton John's songs are magnificent, especially "Friends never say goodbye." I have bought the soundtrack, and every time I listen to it, it makes me think of the funny, and sad, and amazing scenes in the movie. Check it out!

Summary: Well, the horse was a surprise.
Review: When this movie reached my video store, I passed it by several times. It had received such a pre-release build-up, then once it reached the theaters I never heard about it again. This seemed like the sure sign of a real stinker.

But when I finally got around to seeing it I was quite impressed. The film is actually quite good. The thing that really steals the show is the quick and witty banter between the two main characters. But this is woven around a film that actually has humor, a fun plot and solid character development.

I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention. It has a few weak spots (read: the girlfriend), but overall it's a good watch that deserves more credit than it got.

Summary: funny/stupid/weird/disturbing
Review: As funny as it may sound, the only actual funny parts are all showed in the previews. It also has a lot of stupid humor that little kids don't understand, butadults will find disturbing to see them on a childrens movie. (ex: "Holy ship!" , one of the less disturbing parts.) I was really suprised that Disney addad that scene with that girl and whats-his-name. Anyway, cut out the weid parts and skip the prieviews, and you have a pretty good movie. Another fault: The heros are criminals and cheaters, but they get away with breaking the rules. Not a good mesage to kids. I still can't see why it got almost 5 stars?! It was strang!

Summary: Good But Still Could Be Better If...
Review: As animation film fan in Japan, I admit I enjoyed watching this film, but I have to say this could be better if the main characters are given much more distinct personality -- I know the filmmakers intention (one guy, a realist; the other, an idealist) and actors are doing their best, but still, better script might have helped. (But still, remember, they are likable though the combination of Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh reminds me of the awful "Wild, Wild West." Sorry) Another problem (if minor) is the songs; Though I like Elton John's songs here, they are not as good as the wonderful one you heard in "The Lion King." And finally, as an adult who are well accustomed to Japanese animations (or anime), I do not care nudity in animation films because it is not so rare in Japanese production. So, I really liked the character of Chel, but I am afraid some might have been offended with rather explicit sexy description. After all, if you think animation

films are meant only for kids, which I do NOT, you should avoid this very enjoyable, if not original film.

Summary: Original Plot and Characters! Fantastic!
Review: Tulio and Miguel (the protagonists) are wonderfully original characters, in a relationship reminiscent of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in their "On the Road to..." series. Actually, I hope the title (Road to El Dorado) is not coincidental and there will be a follow-up series with other adventures. The plot is original, the animation is great and the artwork has a strong Mezo-American flavor. Music is by Elton John and Tim Rice with well-written and performed (by Elton John) songs that will stick with you. The evil high-priest is villanous without stealing from other famous movie villains. My five-year son and I have probably watched "El Dorado" 30 times and I still laugh at the funny parts and get goosebumps where the writers intended. Warm, funny, original, suspenseful, epic and with great animation! You just can't go wrong with this movie! Five Stars!

Summary: Magnificent
Review: My kids love this movie. They saw it at movie theater, but ever since I bought the DVD the can't stop watching it. They really love the singing and dancing. The story line is so easy for younger kids like to follow. Besides I enjoy wathing it too. Excellent choice; you can't go wrong with this movie.

Summary: Dream Works made a dud.
Review: This is a pretty standard animation film with rushed production values and voice acting that should have been much better then what we hear in the finished prints. It only gets three stars because of the good music by Elton John.

Summary: Good, not great animation film.
Review: I bought this DVD wondering how good is this movie? Well, It is at times funny and at times boring. The music is good not great. The Lion King, movie and soundtrack, was much better (Elton John and Tim Rice did both soundtracks). While watching the story it seems that our main characters found the city of gold too fast. As soon as they found the city of gold, the movie didn't know where the rest of the story should go. I mean there is a big monster that the two main characters defeat quite easily and one character gets mad at the other, and so on. I thought a lot of the scenes where funny, especially the beginning, with the two main characters gambling. The ending was typical Hollywood. This is definitely better than Hercules, Mulan or whatever else Disney has come out with lately. The DVD picture and sound are great. This movie would be a great rental, but buying it was just O.K., Although my niece's and nephew loved the movie.

Summary: It's a great movie.
Review: Notwithstanding the five stars, I concede the reviewer Doug Thomas that some things are mediocre in this movie: the screenplay and the songs of Elton John. He did great songs, but he had had his best years - long ago. He is just reproducing and replicating his old tunes and musical arrangements. That is what I call routine.

However, but it is not really important, because of the wonderful created characters Miguel and Tuilo and their perfect selected voices of Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline. Moreover the nice setting of the jungle and the cities, the Maya as wll as the Spanish. Not to forget once again (ā€˛Moses") the impressive animation of the water.

The movie is beautiful and really great fun. And there is no reason to care about the screenplay and the songs. They don't matter, anyway. Do yourself a favour and watch that.
