Review: Kline and Branagh make a good team. A good, but not great, animated feature.

Summary: The Road To El Rado - The ultimate road movie for the family
Review: 'The Road To El Dorado', is after my meaning, the best non-Disney movie of 2000, the art direction is beautyful, the voices are great, Elton John's music is brilliant, and the effects are stunning.
Tulio, Miguel and their horse Altivo, is going on a dramatic journey to El Dorado, where they meet Chel, and some other entertaining characters, and one of the best animated villians.
If you love adventures, horses, Elton John's music, and Kenneth Branagh, you will love 'The Road To El Dorado'!

Summary: Good Family Comedy
Review: One thing I like about Dreamworks is their ability to come up with family shows, not just children's movies. That can also be a downfall as some of their movies aren't appropriate for small children to watch alone, but they have a wider audience appeal.

The Road to El Dorado is a good movie, as good as any Disney's put out in the last 7 or so years. With the exception of a duet by Brannagh and Kline, all the music is voiced by Elton John, which I thought was a better idea than having all the characters sing, then you don't have to worry about the singing voices matching up to the speaking ones.

The story is pretty standard, although it's nice to see it told from the rogues point of view, it gave the story a little more depth. Even Chel, the native girl is a bit of a rogue, and conspires with Tulio and Miguel to take the old and run. Altivo the horse steals the show from the human characters, I don't know why, but every animated movie seems to have an animal show stealer.

The artwork on this movie is amazing, in the DVd feature about making El Dorado they show shots of Chichen Itza and Tulum, in the Yukitan peninsula of Mexico, and they make El Dorado look very much like it. Also, through the use of computer animation they're able to give a shine to the gold in the city that makes it gleam like nothing else.

All in all this is a good family movie, there's lots of kid humor, music and bright colours to keep the kids interested, and there's some more mature things that can fly over the kid's heads and keep the adult's attention.

Summary: Funny and Adventurous
Review: This is a wonderful cartoon that both adults and children can enjoy. It's really funny and full of adventure. The con artists voiced by Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh are engaging and have excellent chemistry. Immensely viewable.

Summary: This movie was awful
Review: I am not a professional movie critic by trade but I feel prompted to write a review on this movie after watching it.

First, there were too many adult related things in this movie to make it a good movie for kids. The movie included some poor language, sexual references, cartoon nudity, criminals and violence.

Second, the show was flat out boring. That was my biggest gripe, I just could hardly sit through it.

Look for something better if you are going to buy a DVD for the kids. Disney lost it on this one.

Summary: The Road to an Hour and a half of Bordom
Review: Slow moving and predictable.

Summary: A GREAT animated feature! Funny, exotic, action-packed!
Review: "The Road to El Dorado" is a very funny story, a fast-paced adventure, and contains some truly beautiful, innovative animation (much of it with a Mesoamerican palette & motifs). ... This movie has only two weaknesses: it's sort of a "boys" movie, with a world view, humor, and vocabulary that works well for boys above age 7 or 8 (or boys of 50); and the purist like myself might argue that the two hilarious, harmless heroes in this movie are NOT typical of the average Spanish invaders who craved the New World's gold. One of the reasons why this is a boys' movie is the voluptuous "Chel" character voiced by always-sexy Rosie Perez; the animators who sculpted the luscious Chel have guaranteed that excitable male viewers (esp. adolescents) will not sleep well after seeing this movie. Final notes... The superb song lyrics are a bit wordy for younger viewers, but the lush score is wonderful for all ages. Also, the voice-cast for this romantic adventure comedy includes some of the finest actors in the business, and the script is a clever, uninhibited update of the "two-dudes&babe-discover-gold" classics. A winner!

Summary: sooo good
Review: this movie is such a joy to watch. not only is Elton John's soundtrack exciting to listen to, but the film itself is funny, beautiful and entertaining for both children and adults. my brother, who is four, and i could both take some fine ideas from the picture. its main theme is a friendship which is tested for the first time, which is something everyone can relate to. highly recommended.

Summary: A bit of a washout, like the ending
Review: The movie starts out upbeat and quarky enough. The two main characters have great chemistry, and the wacky sidekicks (a horse and an amadillo) were original and fun. Much of the movie is spent setting up for the ultimate conflict -- the arrival of the true bad guys -- when our heroes would be forced to shed their light-hearted wealth-grabbing facade and put on the moral culture-defending capes.

Unfortunately, the setup was pretty much all there was to the movie -- the animation was great, and the two would-be heroes have a lot of fun, but the adventure was pretty much over before it began. There wasn't any transition from adventurous fortune seeker to adventurous do-righters -- the two heroes pretty much "fell" into the role. As a result, the movie lacked a moral center which was so crucial in many great "feel-good" animated features. The characters' actions ultimately had little motivation and so do not truly engage the viewers. In addition the film portrayed the natives and its token female character rather shoddily (especially for a children's film). When the film's final resolution came, there was no feeling of satisfaction -- the adventure is over, but our heroes and the story didn't really live up to expectations.

On a side note, the music in this film didn't really fit in -- the songs were pretty much bland fare -- rather than enhancing, the music was not at all unique or defining, and sometimes even annoying.

I also would recommend parents to review the contents before showing to young children -- there are moments of definite adultness (unnecessary ones, IMHO) which might not suit young children.

Summary: The Movie Is Gold
Review: Okay...so maybe I'm not Miss. Good Taste on movies. I'm a huge animation freak and I love any types. 2-D or 3-D, you name it, I watch it. Its tradition! :D

Originally, I never saw this movie in theatures. I didn't think it was going to be great. Buuutt when I saw it on HBO in the summer, I was like, okay, this is an alright movie, then I saw it for another time, and BOOM baby...I fell in love with the adventures of Tulio and Miguel to El Dorado. I'm obsessed with this movie as scary as it sounds. I own the movie, I own the soundtrack, I have tons of merchandise from it. Its one of those...you have to watch it a couple times to really appprient it kinda movies. :)

Its probably my favorite movie, but others will most likely disagree! *dodges a tomato at her* I'm just saying give this movie a chance...then a second one! You'll love it! :D
