Rating: Summary: The only Dreamworks movie I own on VHS Review: The Road to El Dorado makes me wonder one thing, the narrator is Elton John. But he does not talk once in the movie, he sings most of the movie's songs, the only song not sung by Elton John is It's Tough to Be a God perfomed by Kevin Kline and Kennth Branagh. But warning to parents this movie was rated PG by the MPAA for mild tnematic material and language. As the movie opens, it is Spain in 1519, and two men named Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kennth Branagh) are playing a game with loaded dice, and they win a map to the city of El Dorado. But they are taken prisoners on a ship, they make a plan to escape and go back to Spain, but instead problems happen when a horse wants his apple and they end up on a beach without food, but Migel has manged (some how) to get the map to El Dorado and they decide to make the journey to Spain, take the gold and go back to Spain. They find the city of El Dorado. And they are mistaken for gods, and now they have to pretend to be gods even though they are mortals and without the city of El Dorado learning they are not gods.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Great animation, Great humor, Great plot! Review: This film measures up to the very highest standards of animation. It matches or surpasses anything the Disney Studio has ever done. It is detailed, crisp, clear, and colorful. The DVD transfer is also superlative. The movie is a "road show" (ala Hope and Crosby), and a very successful one. Dreamworks went all out on this one, including the vocal talents! Do not miss!
Rating: Summary: Fun Family Movie with Adult Twists! Review: This charming movie will have everyone in the audience laughing. It's witty, fun, and has a little of every type of humor, not just the kid kind! The cynical, cunning Tulio and his dreamer-type friend Miguel embark on one big mishap after another when they get in trouble for using loaded dice, get caught on a ship in Spain, and end up stranded alone on the New World. Historical, it is not. Fun, it is. With the help of a map and a sneaky and ... thief named Chel, our "heroes" are passed off as gods so they can steal gold from ancient city El Dorado and be rich. We all know a plan like this is destined for some type of failure. Heheh. If anything, get this movie purely to find out how the "gods" fall flat on their faces. The music is well made, but sometimes pops up at random. Believe me, this movie really doesn't give off the feeling of being a Disney musical romp, so some of the songs seem a bit misplaced. All the same, they're quite nice and fun to listen to. So, I really think I can safely say, I recommend this movie to anyone.
Rating: Summary: More enjoyable for adults than kids. Review: This one probably won't become your kid's favorite video. El Dorado seems to have more action than comedy and the love story elements are uninteresting (and at times inapproprite) for children. As an adult, I liked the storyline and thought the handling of the Aztecs and Spaniards clash was very creative, though not realistic. (Expect more than the usual Disney-type liberties taken with historical accuracy.) The main characters are well defined and enjoyable, which sets El Dorado apart from many other animated films. The music and animation are well done.
Rating: Summary: Funny! Review: This movie is funny, only one problem Tulio (Kline), and Chel (Perez) were having love 2 times, the horse was drunk when they were playing that song "It's tough to be a god," and Tulio and Miguel were naked 2 times. You should have rate it PG-13 for some sexual content, action sequences, brief mild language, crude humor, thematic elements, drinking, and scenes of brief and rear nudity. I give it **** (4 out of 5).

Rating: Summary: Another Road Movie. Review: Bing Crosby and Bob Hope made several "ROAD" movies together. The movies basically had the same plot: the duo traveled to some far off location, involved the duo getting into some kind of trouble, and had a beautiful woman fall in love with one of the duo (usually Crosby). The movies were also known for their cheesy songs and the frequent breaking of the theatrical fourth wall. With that said, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO is basically another Hope and Crosby film, except it's animated and it doesn't star Hope or Crosby. The animated visuals of the movie are rather spectacular in some parts and Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branaugh keep the picture moving as the bumbling duo of Julio and Miguel. The plot of the movie revolves around Julio and Miguel being accidently stowed away on one of Cortez's ships headed for the New World. The duo escapes in the night and in the process save Cortez's prize horse. The three companions eventually wash up on shore and discover they have landed on the shores of a distant land where El Dorado, the legendary city of gold, can be found. Eventually, the companions find El Dorado and are mistaken for gods. The plot of the movie does move rather slow and the film's songs, written and performed by Elton John, are rather cheesy. Nevertheless, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO is more enjoyable than many other animated pictures and proves to be an enjoyable animated action/adventure buddy flick that the entire family can watch together.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but not a masterpiece Review: Since I'm a big fan of animation I tend to rate all animated films more than they probably value. This movie is nice, I liked it, but it is not a masterpiece by any means. The two main characters and the horse are very funny, very realistic -- but for our times. I'm not sure there were people like that in Cortes' time. But you have to ignore these kind of mistakes -- like you have to ignore the impossibility of Tulio and Miguel speaking the same language as the people of El Dorado -- otherwise how did they understand each other? I especially enjoyed the fact that there was no character exclusively in the movie to provide the kind of 'comic relief' of Mushu in Mulan. The humor was natural, not forced, it came directly from the situations and the dialogue. The music was not remarkable and did not fit in with the action very good. Also, I absolutely dislike Rosie Perez and her accent was very, very, very annoying. Also, I did not like the ending -- without giving it away I will just say I would have preferred if they did what Miguel wanted to do. I didn't mind the so-called nudity -- there was really no nudity and the love scene was just suggested, a young kid would not get the point at all. In my book, this film stays on a par with "The Emperor's New Groove". It is better than "Pocahontas" or "The Prince of Egypt", but not as good as "Alladin", "Ariel", "Atlantis".
Rating: Summary: An all star adventure Review: 'The Road To El Dorado', one of the biggest non-Disney movies of the year 2000, includes an all star voice cast, including Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline, and there's plenty of laughs and thrills to entertain the whole family. Two men, and their scene stealing horse, is going to El Dorado, where they are attracted as gods, but the villian of the movie, that is one of the best of 'Dreamworks', is trying to get rid of them. If you're a fan of 'Dreamworks', don't miss this cartoon!
Rating: Summary: good but something was missing Review: this was an awesome movie but I could only give it 4 stars. I went to see it when it was in theaters. The storyline was good and showed that greed is the way to ruin, but why did the horse have to be the one with the most human like personality. everyone else was out for themselves. there was also nudity in a cartoon!!! that is not right. cartoons are for kids and even if it is only a butt shot is still should not be shown in a cartoon. These are the reasons I only give this movie 4 stars.
