Summary: An Change Of Pace From Carpenter.
Review: Some people think is hard to believe, director John Carpenter madethis Romance/Science-Fiction, after directing-Christine. This is a really touching film, am sure, some of his fans, didn't think, he could made this film.

Jeff Bridges in a great performance earn him a Oscar Nomination for Best Actor(1984) and Karen Allen best performance in this film.

The film was so popular, later came T.V. Series, starring Robert Hays was also good.

The Plot:After Jenny Hayden(Karen Allen) lost her husband(Jeff Bridges) in a car crash. An alien crash and landed on earth and then Transformed into like the Husband but Jenny also a hard time to expected it and two begin a journey in a road trip to his way home and Jenny becomes in life with him.

Well directed by Carpenter(Ghosts of Mars) and Excutive Produced by actor:Micheal Douglas(Wonder Boys). Grade:A. Panavision.

Summary: A surprisingly touching sci-fi/love story
Review: Usually when I hear the word "science fiction," a shudder runs down my spine. Films that have $50 million in special effects, and no plot whatsoever drive me crazy. This film, though labeled as "science fiction," is in fact more of a great love story. It is like E.T., because it involves an alien (Jeff Bridges, in one of his most incredible performances) being stranded on Earth. The alien takes human form and coerces a woman, Jenny (Karen Allen) into driving him to his final destination. If he does not get there in three days, he will die. Of course, they fall in love along the way, and of course, they are being chased by government agents. But what makes this sci-fi so different from the rest is that it concentrates less on dazzling special effects and more on the story between Starman and Jenny. What you end up with is a touching love story with one of the most bittersweet endings I've ever seen. I love this film, and I think that everyone else will, too.

Summary: John Carpenter's "Surprise of '84"
Review: John Carpenter's Starman, despite the potential to be an inordinately stupid movie, is actually one of the best, most believable science fiction love stories in memory-the fact of it combining two genres which rarely mix is, in itself, a testimony to its greatness. Using the real-life launching of the lost-in-space Voyager probe, it asks the question of just how would the powers that be respond to an actual reply. A widow is forced to take an alien who has crashed landed near her home-after assuming the identity and shape of her dead husband-across the country for a rendevous in Arizona with others from his planet. His purpose is basically that of an anthropologist: study and learn whatever possible about humans...his conclusions, although on the whole untrue, are poignant and touching. "You are all at your very best when things are worse..." Horror director Carpenter did a surprisingly nice job handling this-good thing, however, that he did not compose the score, lest the alien presence be chilling, no matter how harmless he seems at times. For anyone whoever felt like less of a person having been unable to shed a single tear from E.T..

Summary: Welcome to Earth!
Review: This should rank among the all-time greats in science fiction films. This is perhaps the best acting performance by Jeff Bridges to date. A very well made film which is a brilliantly concocted combination of science fiction and romantic drama; there are also many humorous moments blended in too!

Summary: A SCI-FI CLASSIC WITH ROMANTIC TWIST!!!
Review: This is undoubtably my favourite movie and a movie I would recommend to anyone, especially for it's sharp and sometimes humourous insights on our way of life. A substantial hit in England back in 1985 and certainly one of John Carpenters best, even if it is not what viewers expect from him. Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen take on-screen chemistry to new heights and I find it amazing they are both so underrated. Any filmmakers reading this - for Godsake use these talents. The DVD is a huge improvement over the already good VHS and Laserdiscs. There should really be a special edition released. Columbia are you listening?

Summary: THE MOST TOUCHING SCI FI FILM EVER!! 5 stars
Review: This movie really showcased Jeff Bridges talent, not to mention the wonderful but seldom seen in movies- Karen Allen. Bridges shows that he can pull off a multi layered role with ease. This movie made me cry, laugh hysterically, and made my spirit soar all in the spanse of 2 hours. Truly a remarkable and very thought provoking film. I wish they would make more movies like this one and stop making so-so films about aliens like INDEPENDENCE DAY or CONTACT.It seems the 1980s were the last decade of decent sci fi movies. Oh please dont let this be So! A must see for all ages.

Summary: Forget ET
Review: Usually I am not given to watching films of this type, perhaps it was the cast and crew that made me sit down and give it a chance? Whatever the reason I found this film a welcome break from the cloying and insincere ET. This film has true warmth and is a far superior film. The fine performances from Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen provide the viewer with wonderful moments of laughter and pathos. This is a touching film that stands the test of time.

A generally good DVD transfer (a couple of minor moments of pixelation really only noticeable during totally black sections of the film).

Summary: ET on an adult level...
Review: At first sight, I immediately fell in love with this movie. In the beginning, the movie seemed a little slow, pointless, and mostly vague. But, there's a reason for this. This aptitude of slowness helped to develop the main character of the film. As you saw Starman start to 'form', or 'develop', you saw that his motives were an innocent act of courtesy on the behalf of humankind whereas, adversely, those hard core scientific folk saw him as a mind-eater or brain-washer. This movie really made you think about life and its subsequential intricacies.

I really enjoyed "Starman" for it's low-key progressional storyline and it's great special effects. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys movies such as "ET" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

Overall, I feel that young movie-goers might enjoy this movie for its special effects while a more mature audience may appeal, additionally, to the soft and ageless storyline.
