Summary: Disappointing....
Review: but not due to the storyline. I absolutely loved the tv series "Christy" when it first debuted with Kellie Martin and Tyne Daly. I was very, very annoyed when this wonderful, witty, romantic, dramatic, and all around exceptional show was canned.

I was dubious at first when I learned some "Christy" tv movies were coming out but I was willing to sit down and watch one to see if it held the same magic for me as the series held. Unfortunately, the magic that had me bowled over week after week with the series was not present in the movies.

Don't get me wrong, the tv movies might be of the highest quality and caliber but, for me at least, Kellie Martin will always be Christy. Tyne Daly will always be Miss Alice and Randall Batinkoff will always be David. These actors are forever going to embody the characters of the wonderful tv show which was "Christy" and no substitutes will do.

Which brings me to my real purpose of writing this review. PLEASE...I'M BEGGING the powers-that-be to release the "Christy" television show on DVD with all its episodes. The series is the only "Christy" that I'm interested in.

Summary: Perfect! Just Perfect!
Review: Christy: A New Beginning has to be the best of the 3 PAX movies. The story starts out with Christy Huddleston (The beautiful Lauren Lee Smith) prepairing for her wedding day to Reverand David Grantland (played by cuttie James Waterston, son of actor Sam Waterston) With everything Christy has to do (Clean, bake, teach school, amoung other things)she is still troubled about what happend three months before when typhoid hit Cutter Gap, killing her beloveded friend, Fairlight Spencer. And if that isn't enough to deal with, Christy's other beau, Dr. Neil MacNeill (played by handsome and wonderful actor Stewart Finlay McLennan) shows up on the Mission door step just two weeks before her wedding to David! Neil invites Christy to go for a ride with him. After a short talk on Neil's research on Typiod he's doing, the conversation moves to Jeb Spencer who has still not got over his grief for his wife, Fairlight. Neil reflects how he and Jeb are alike, because, they both have lost the women they love and before another word is said, Neil tells Christy that he loves her and wants to marry her. But, at that moment, the biggest storm that Cutter Gap has ever had, hit. The hard rain forces Neil and Christy to take shelter in a old cabin. Christy there tell's Neil that he doesn't love her and runs out into the rain. She falls down a steep revene and Neil has to come to her rescue. Meanwhile, people from all over Cutter Gap go to the Mission House for shelter. Miss Alice has her hands full getting food, making sure everyone is kept warm, worring about Christy and Neil. David, who is in El Pano when the storm hits, finds out about Neil being back and desides to hike 7 miles through the hard rain just to get back to Cutter Gap. After Neil saves Christy, she starts burning up with fever, and there is nothing Neil can do to help her. Will Neil turn to God? Will David get back to Cutter Gap safe and sound? Summary: Whom Will She Choose?
Review: Christy: A New Beginning is the final climax to the much loved Christy legacy. Finally all fans will known whom Christy chooses. With her upcoming wedding approaching, Christy is being run ragged with all the preparations. Sewing, cleaning, organizing, unpacking, everything is haywire and Christy is feeling it. Then, on top of everything, the rugged mountain doctor, Neil MacNeil arrives and seeing her in such an exhausted position, he insists that she take the day off and go for a ride with him. In the mean time, David, who is unaware of Neil's arrival, finds himself in El Pano. In the middle of this, a storm which's size rivals that of any previous storm , rages all of its fury upon the cove, sending many to the mission for cover. Neil and Christy, who are finding an emotional conflict arising between themselves, must wait it out in an old hunting cabin, where Neil tries desperately to convince Christy of his love for her. David strikes out for El Pano after hearing that Neil has returned. He is acompanied by Dr. Ferrand, who is worried about Alice. At the mission, an accident traps Miss Alice under a falled tree and her only hope is in a young man and an unlikely helper. Will everyone make it through the storm with their lives? Whom will Christy's heart choose? Will Neil accept the truth about God? Will Miss Alice survive? Christy: A New Beginning stars Lauren Lee Smith as Christy, James Waterston as David, Diane Ladd as Alice Henderson, and Stewart Finnley McLennan returns to star as Dr. Neil MacNeil.

Summary: ONE OF THE MOST INSPIRING MOVIES EVER MADE!
Review: Christy:A New Beginning is one of the most loving, wholesome, and Christian movies ever made. The producers deserve be honored for this inspiring and Christian film. In the midst of all of Hollywood's ungodly and nihilistic motion pictures, God still has a holy remnant. And Christy has proved to be a part of that remnant. May God help Christians to produce more movies like this. "Good films, good citizens."

Summary: Disappointing....
Review: Geez, What is this? Marrying a girl 30 years your junior. Give me a break.Christy obviously needs someone to knock some sense into her head. Why doesn't she choose the preacher/fiance'. The one she chose is soooo old. Makes no sense. I have the other 2 dvd's as well and watched them both before this one in order to keep the theme intact but am very disappointed. I was so looking forward to her and David being to gether but obviously it's not to be.There is absolutely no chemistry between Christy and her father figure. I think I would rather go back to my favorite "Anne of Green Gables" and "Avonlea" at least she came to her senses and chose one that she could grow with instead of the May/December (Old man wanting young inexperienced lady) relationship. Oh well.....

Summary: a bit disappointed
Review: Having read the book many times growing up & seen the CBS series, I was a bit disappointed with the movies. While great for loyal Christy fans who're familiar with the characters & the incredible story, I agree with some other reviewers that 'newbie' fans shouldn't start with the movies. The original CBS series was great!!! Although Lauren Lee Smith, Diane Ladd & Sam W. are commendable, I think Kellie Martin's Christy, Tyne Daly's Miss Alice & Randall Batinkoff's David were MUCH MORE believable. At times, the acting came off a bit overly done or not enough & unfortunately, Lauren's Christy struck me as a bit...bland. The saving grace: 3 cheers though for Stewart Finlay-McClennan's returning performance as Dr. MacNeil! Hope this helps: I'd try to get the whole series 1st, and then these movies.

Summary: A great ending
Review: I do love this DVD. It gives you the ending you always craved, both from the books and the TV series.

I do agree that Lauren was not the best Christy, but the replacements for David and Miss Alice were good for their parts.

The one scene missing is the acceptance of a certain proposal. I really would have liked to have seen that filmed.

Otherwise, it is a great film that you can watch with the whole family.

Summary: Stewart Finlay-McLennan is fantastic in this movie!
Review: I have to say that I did enjoy the movie, but found it difficult to believe in its realism (in comparison to the television series).

Certain actors seemed to be either overacting or just not right for their parts. Dr. Neil McNeill (played by SFM)is one of five returning actors to the movie and he hold's the most realism in his character and acting. He is believable as the doctor, and although he appears as though he has aged considerably since the original series, he performance is flawless and enjoyable.

Lauren Lee Smith who plays Christy was also pretty good. I found the transition from Kellie Martin to Smith was a bit difficult for me to accept, but in the end I was pleased with her performance. The character of Miss Alice was probably the most disappointing. She seemed the most fake and overacting to me, and although I'm sure the actress is top-notch, this part wasn't quite right for her.

In the end, this mini-series combines a fantastic story with beautiful scenery and unforgettable characters. It's worth buying.

Summary: Sort of Disappointing!
Review: I really liked the TV show and was disappointed when Pax stopped showing it and was happy when I read that they were making new movies and I tried to watch this movie but just couldn't get into it and was really bored but maybe I will try and watch it again sometime and maybe it will grow on me!
