Summary: A powerful film
Review: Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon,and Ed Harris make a strong cast in this thriller. I really enjoyed how they showed what went through the astronauts minds as well as those at mission control. It makes it feel like you are in the shuttle. Is it just me or did Kathleen Quinlan look hot in this film?

Summary: Great movie, disappointing DTS DVD
Review: This is one of my favorite films. Had it on VHS pan and scan, then VHS widescreen, now DVD DTS version. I was really excited to try this out on the DVD player. It's a good transfer with excellent sound.But, for some reason, they left out ALL of the extra goodies on the DTS version of this disk! No subtitles, no trailers, NOTHING! What were they thinking? I really wanted to see that extra stuff! According to the other reviews posted here, the extra material was excellent on the other version of this disk. Shame on these guys for ripping us off on the DTS version. Will swap my DTS for a non-DTS version! Interested? Write me: JonADuncan@aol.com.

Summary: One of my top 10 movies
Review: With more DVD-titles coming to us, we'll have to see where a movie - or maybe a disc - can distinguish itself from the rest. Here we have a beautiful DTS-version and this movie (one of Ron Howard's best work) is based on authentic events, which makes it also well-worth the time to view it more than once. While making the film, actual Nasa-people were asked to assist - and they were astonished by the accuracy with which the sets were build. One of them, formerly working in the command center, while leaving the set, tried to use the elevator - where fake elevator doors didn't let him. Add up the fact that this is an all star cast with great performances, what else is there to tell? Top quality, both in image and sound.

Summary: Movie making at its best
Review: It's a long way from Happy Days to the space race but Ron Howard has done a fantastic job of bringing the Apollo 13 story to the big screen. I loved the special effects, loved the acting, loved the suspense and was inspired by the music score much as I inspired by those original events I still vividly recall as a nine year old Australian school boy. My favourite scene: the Apollo 13 launch from the nervous moments in the Astronauts' fit-out rooms to insertion in earth orbit. Somehow Howard created a crescendo of drama that wasn't eased until we see scenes of Astronauts' gloves floating in zero gravity. Another feature is the excellent recreation of Mission Control in Houston. The supporting cast were fantastic. Each were quirky individuals in their own right, not clone-like extras there to make up the numbers. I liked Happy Days, Ron, but I loved Apollo 13 even more. Movie making at its best.

Summary: An Extrordinary Epic Of Survival From The Impossible
Review: A boy's space adventure with an all-star cast, this blockbuster hit trades heavily on nostalgia for the glory years of the American Space Program. Apollo 13 has all the advantages: top-notch special effects; attention to every detail, from the epic outer space vistas to the minutiae of life on board the crippled space vehicle. A cast that goes from really good to even better. I recommend this movie to all people who have a good taste in movies.

Review: This movie is absolutely excellent. The actors are excellent (especially Ed Harris), the best music I've ever heard, incredible special effects, and an absolutely great script. I recommend this movie to absolutely everyone who has a good taste in movies.

Summary: DTS - DVD does not have the extra goodies
Review: They have seemed to have removed all of the extra goodies from the DTS version. All you get is a 5.1 edition and the DTS edition. No additional commentary, interviews, or behind the scenes.

Review: The video transfer was excellent, no flaws. The DTS sound was great. The content was excellent. I strongly recommend this DTS-DVD to anyone interested in the space program. Also, the DVD series From the Earth to the Moon.
