Summary: A suprisingly enthralling film.
Review: Loosely based on Astronaut Jim Lovell's written account, LOST MOON, the film follows the crew of Apollo 13 from pre-flight controversy, to in-flight catastrophe, to post-flight exhilaration and reflection. I found the film suprisingly enthralling because I speculated that a film about three guys in a tiny metal capsule was not likely to hold my notoriously short attention. However, meticulous direction by Ron Howard, coupled with solid cast performances by Tom Hanks, Gary Senise, Bill Paxton, and Ed Harris, just to name a few, gave the film a rapidly rolling storyline.

Summary: A Thrilling Real-Life Space Drama! Plus A First-Class DVD!
Review: 1995's "Apollo 13" (directed by Ron Howard) is an immensely-entertaining, mega-detailed true-life story of the near-disastrous April 1970 Apollo moon launch!

Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Bacon star as the 3 men bound for the lunar surface, until an explosion aboard the spacecraft alters their plans. The attention to detail in this picture is staggering. Howard and company didn't miss a beat when re-creating these events and their surroundings!

There's a fine music score to accompany the action on screen as well. And it's nice to have this one on DVD, for the wealth of supplemental materials, as well as a fantastic Dolby 5.1 audio track! (Crank up the volume for the Apollo launch sequence! It sounds awesome in all its 5.1 window-shattering splendor!)

Summary: Classic Tom Hanks Drama. Great.
Review: I was reluctant to see this movie because it was "so predictable." I thought it was reminiscent of Titanic (which was not good, in my opinion) and did not see it until it came out on video. I loved it. Tom Hanks did a phenomenal job acting, and the movie is well written and well scored. Ron Howard's commentary on the DVD is great as well as the Lovell's. A must buy.

Summary: Not science fiction but still exciting
Review: I was never much of a NASA or astronaut fan (although I love science fiction) so I may not have been impressed as some one that is or that followed the real story when it happened (I was just a little kid). But I thought that this movie was very engrossing and I did care about the characters (which is always important in any really good movie). I would have enjoyed the film even if it was completely fiction.
Hanks is great in all he does and with the combination of all the great talent and the very believable special effects in this movie it is a good strong recommendation.

Summary: A great Movie
Review: For anyone that did not grow up in this era of space travle, this is a must see. It starts a little slow, but it quickly gets good. Just to get a glimps of what these asttonauts where really going through back in this time is unbelievable. They really never knew if they would survive untill they where back on earth. The movie could not be any more realistic.

Three astronts start on what has become to most people a routine mission to the moon. It quickly becomes anything but routine when an explosion criples the space craft. As the space craft is quickly losing power, N.A.S.A. must find a way to get them back home. problem after problem threatens their servival, and even if they do make it back, they do not know if they will survive the re-entry.

Summary: Is there anything better than this?....
Review: "Apollo 13" is definetly one of the best films i have ever seen, the great and wonderful acting by Tom Hanks, Ed Harris and the rest of the actors, is very compelling, the film it's extremely exciting, and very well done, this film clearly demonstrates that real stories can have a better impact than fiction, the camerawork is a bit weird, or should i say the picture, i am preety sure they made it soft, to give that "We are in the 1960's" look, also the sound, the DTS version is definetly a must buy, everything sounds very crisp and clear, specially the "Lift-off" scene, i am preety sure that if you watch it with DTS, you are going to say the same that the son of Fred Haise says, "Mom, that was loud", the DTS version is simply amazing, but it does not have everything that the Dolby Digital version has, i am preety sure it's because the DVD is not double-layer, but hey i got both the Dolby and DTS versions, it was a present from a friend, but i strongly recommend you the DTS version.

Summary: To The Moon and Back!
Review: There's nothing closer to a perfect movie than "Apollo 13". It has every element one could ask for, plus it really happened! The only thing I could do without is the smoking and too much cussing (my lungs hurt afterwards...) but I was able to look past all that after seeing it about 25 times (so far)...

It's still beyond comprehension why Tom Hanks got snubbed for Best Actor and Ron Howard for Best Director and the movie itself for Best Picture when they all clearly were. Maybe they're saving it for "Best Picture of All Time". That statement doesn't come easy from someone who's as picky about good movies as I am.

Summary: Two for one: Tom Hanks AND Kevin Bacon!
Review: Looking past the Big Names and high budget production, there was a lot of great acting done by the supporting characters. I was impressed by the protrayals of the ground crew and how each actor made the crew real people.

Other than the sexual conitations in the opening scenes, this is a good, clean movie and would recomend it for anybody 14 and up. Not younger because the climax is a little intense, even if you do know the outcome.

Summary: A TRUE STORY OF BRAVERY
Review: Based on the actual Apollo 13 space mission, Ron Howard directs this amazing film that not only centers around the struggle to bring back to earth three astronauts in a doomed space craft, but it also focuses on the emotional impact that this actual event had on the families of the astronauts and the entire nation. The talented actors, Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon portray the three astronauts who are estatic about receiving the opportunity to land and walk on the moon. However, the entire mission is soon in peril when something goes terribly wrong. The mission control crew attempts everything possible to bring the astronauts safely home. In the meantime, the three astronauts struggle to maintain their composure and sanity as they also try everything to arrive home to their anxious families. This 2 hour and 20 minute video is a must for anyone's video collection, with fabulous graphics and emotional dialogue. I've viewed it several times, and it never gets boring.

Summary: A Great Tribute to True Heroism
Review: In these days of taken-for-granted shuttle launches and landings, Ron Howard did a wonderful job of authentically recreating the story of one of NASA's darkest and greatest moments. We see creativity, professionalism, and true heroism portrayed quietly but honestly, genuinely, and believably. I grew up during the heyday of the Apollo program, and what I see in this movie fits what I remember like a glove. It could not have been done better, and it reminds us that every great thing has a price to it. Also, with no violence, no sex, and little swearing, Ron Howard created a very mature film for adults that grabs your interest from beginning to end.
