Summary: Best Movie of the Year!
Review: I saw October Sky in the theater after it was recommended to me by some fellow film lovers. It is simply the best movie I have seen in a long time. It's smart, funny, touching and beautifully acted and directed. The performances by lead Jake Gyllenhaal as Homer and Chris Cooper as his father are amazing - both deserve to be nominated for Oscars. I could not wait to purchase this movie for myself, and now that I have, I have watched it three times in as many days!

Summary: One of the best movies I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This is a fantastic film! you should at least rent it. This is a must see film about a boy named Homer (not homer simpsan) and three of his friends who live in a small coal mining town in the 1950's right after Sputnic was lanched. These 4 boys don't want to end up being coal miners and are inspired after seeing Sputnic fly across the night sky so they buid rockets. There rockets get better and better. There teacher enters them in the county science fair and the 4 teenagers win 1st prize. Homer is sent to the nationl science fair to represent the 4. They win and are awarded schlerships at almost any university they choose.

Summary: This is ten times better than " Star Wars - Episode 1 " !!!
Review: This was a movie that I enjoyed, thoroughly, and completely ! When I was thru watching it, I wanted to see it again. I was thrilled at the protagonist's boyish enthusiasm, which turned his dream into reality. This is a heart warming story, that will get under your skin. This is a film that you won't be afraid, or ashamed to take a friend, or family member to. I wasn't impressed with the latest Star Wars, big budget hypefest; but this is a movie that I will enjoy watching, over and over again !

Summary: A must-see film.
Review: I saw this movie seven times in the theater - going with a different person each time. All seven said words to the effect: "This wasn't just a good movie, it was a GREAT movie!" Shortly after one of the first times I saw the film, I picked up the book and read it -- it too is wonderful! I found myself slowing down as I read it, because I didn't want to say 'good-bye' to these people. I felt as though I knew them.

The casting could not have been better -- everyone seemed perfectly suited for his or her part. The director and the camera operators definitely loved Jake Gylenhaal's face, because they did a lot of close-ups on him. He has one of the most expressive faces I've ever seen -- he was a delight to watch on the screen. His whole face lit up when he smiled, and he expressed pain and anger equally well. I will watch for further movies with this young man -- he's going to go places!

This story is filled with everything you'd want in a movie -- drama, humor, touching realism, and a heroic story of finding victory in chasing a dream -- against all odds. It is a shame we don't see many more movies like this. This story should be seen by families -- particularly by fathers and their sons, as it contains a lesson for us all -- about acceptance, about supporting, about loving and forgiving.

Treat yourself to this movie. I can't imagine anyone saying they didn't like it.

When the video becomes available, I'm buying several -- to treat those with whom I saw the movie at the theater, so they can remember this great film again.

Summary: This movie transported me back 40 years to my youth!
Review: Although I grew up in a different part the USA, my experience with rockets was a mirror of this movie; so close that it was scary. I re-felt the pain and agony when the rockets exploded on the launch pad and the exhilaration when they shot into the sky. I could relate strongly to the feelings of being different because sports wasn't my passion as portrayed in the movie. I found the acting good and the pace perfect. A very warm and touching movie.

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: A film with no heroes or villains--just decent people living their lives with dignity and respect for others. October Sky is a humane and achingly poetic examination of the conflicts between fathers and sons, rich and poor, past and future, and reality and dreams. I cannot wait for this DVD!

Summary: Sets a new level
Review: I saw this movie "by mistake" a friend of mine and I were going to another movie and as luck would have it it was no longer showing. Wow, am I glad. It gave me the chance to see this fantastic movie. I honestly believe that if there were more movies like this available that we would have far fewer problems in our schools today. It's similar to the old Andy Griffith show, in that, it has no sex, drugs or violence but it still manages to capture your attention and keep it. It's one you won't soon forget. Wow, what more can I say!

Summary: An outstanding film, all the engineers I work with loved it.
Review: Every engineer I work with identified with the boys in this film. There were even a couple of moist eyes at the end. A film that hits that close to the mark is truly art, not just another shoot-em up with some sex and violence thrown in so it can scrape by at the box office. Everyone I know wants a tape of the movie. I think it deserves to be re-released to theaters. One of the best movies I've ever watched. I'd like to thank the studio for making this one.

Summary: A theatrical triumph depicting a triumph of the human spirit
Review: In this day of hollow, sex and violence laced films, October Sky is a shining example of the kind of film that once made Hollywood seem magical. This film is a fantastic portrayal of a young man's pursuit of his dream in spite of ridicule from his peers, parents and townsfolk. The acting and cinematography are excellent. October Sky is a tribute to anyone who has ever chased a dream, and a primer for anyone who has a dream to chase.
