Summary: Geocentrism
Review: The most important aspect of this movie is the fact that it shows humanity that the cosmos contains so much more than this little planet and its even more insignificant inhabitants. "Contact" also shows how humans must embrace each other in times of difficulty.

Summary: PLEASE DON'T WASTE MY TIME WITH MOVIES LIKE CONTACT
Review: Unfortunatly, I wasted my time watching Contact. To tell you the truth, I expected much more out of this film, especially since it was written by science fiction genius Carl Sagan. Jodie Foster, however, gave an exceptional performance, while Matthew McConaughy's character had absolutely no purpose. Secondly, I was expecting more of an ending. I know that some people call it a genius ending, but I just don't get it. I felt like I was being ripped off. Robert Zemeckis stole my money, made me sit through two hours, expecting a smash ending, and... what do I get? A lame ending. Who needs that? There are plenty of movies with crappy endings. I do recommend viewing Contact, just for the sake of it. There are one or two moments that are entertaining. However, this is the type of film that can only be watched once.

Summary: Science fiction at its best
Review: Contact is one of the most brilliant, beatuiful, and poetic sci-fi films I've ever seen. The acting is sensational and Jodie Foster should have not only received an oscar nomination, but also should have won it. The special effects aren't overused and they supply some truly wondrous moments.

The science vs. religion theme is there and it makes for many powerful and dramatic scenes in the movie. Don't miss it.

Summary: SAGAN'S FOLLY
Review: Foster and McConaughey land in bed the first day they meet?!! Give me a break. Like Mr. Garrison of "South Park" said, "I waited two hours to see the alien and it turned out to be her G**D*** father!"

Summary: Beautiful.
Review: Completely engrossing movie. The science is believable, the acting is strong and the directing was pure genius. Robert Zemeckis pulled out all the stops. There are scenes that are are truly extraordinary. A couple that come to mind: the view of a girl running down a hallway which is seemlessly turned into a reflection in a mirror, and an unedited scene in a crowded party where the view slowly rotates 360 degrees(!?). The special effects were done with exquisite taste. The most useful of which is the simple effect of altering the speed of the action a subtle technique to heighten the drama. There are flaws to the movie, ofcourse. The major one is the relationship between the protagonist (Jodie Foster) and her benefactor, the only way it could have been more contrived would be if Anthony Hopkins played the role of benefactor. To wrap things up, Jodie Foster gives a powerful performance which reinforces the intelligence of her character, the story is truly touching, and the topic the movie deals with is profound. Oh yeah, Bill Clinton makes an appearance, and its probably his second best performance to date...

Summary: Simply Wonderful!
Review: I don't post often, but after reading such comments as "Hokey Hollywood junk," "what a piece of cheap crap," "The worst movie ever to grace a movie screen," and "The most offensive movie I've seen in years," I just had to comment.

This was an absolutely gorgeous film, and, if you subscribe to one rule of good sci-fi (start with current science facts and pertinent social/political/etc. conditions, and extrapolate from there), it is refreshingly believable. The opening visuals were so powerful that my friend, who doesn't generally care for sci-fi, was almost continuously saying "WOW! She was even eager to view it a second time. Jodie Foster turns in her usual brilliant performance, and the supporting cast & the script were sensational.

I am always saddened by, and feel sorry for both the terminally stupid and the close-minded religious fanatics that insist that anyone who doesn't subscribe to THEIR belief is wrong, wrong, wrong. This film is science FICTION, and therefore should be avoided by anyone who does not want to expand their horizons. Unfortunately, those people will never think this means them. *sigh*

Summary: Hokey Hollywood junk
Review: Everything wrong with Hollywood movies is found in this movie. The central concept of how the Earthlings would deal with knowledge of the existence of an alien civilization is dealt with in a superficial and melodramatic way. The actors' were all melodramatic, though some of this may be blamed on the screenplay. Foster gave a very bad and unconvincing performance. When push came to shove, she wimped out in her defense of her atheism (though that's the screenwriter's fault). She was horribly miscast. To this day, she still looks like a teenage tomboy. Only Skerritt and Hurt gave convincing and interesting performances. If you're watching this on cable, skip the first 40 minutes. If this is truly an accurate rendition of Sagan's novel (which I haven't read), then I owe the film's makers and actors an apology. But from a purely cinematic viewpoint, it's extremely disappointing.

Summary: what a piece of cheap crap.
Review: Can anyone tell me what's the story? Why did the other docter want all the credits? Why is there the extremist? The blind guy could be God too!The only thing thats clear is that Robert Z. had some music left from Forrest Gump and thought why shoudn't I use it for an other movie?

Summary: The Most Breathtaking Film Ever Made.
Review: From my point of veiw: I am 13 yrs. old/ male.

This movie is one of the most amazing and touching films I have ever seen. I know there is debate over the ending also. If you hadn't noticed though, the "alien" island resembled the picture she made as a girl. It brings me to beleive that maybe she was 'chosen' and destined to find this place, and maybe these inteligent forms of life had their eye on her the entire time. If you're sensative about god vs science, and not able to open up to other ideas, just stay away from this film. You may find it a litte offensive in that aspect. I personally love this film, and beleive it is one of the best movies ever made. 5 Stars.

Summary: Sci-Fi at its finest...
Review: Carl Sagan - brilliant. His story is touching, endearing and intelligent. It almost seems believable! I applaud his efforts and am saddened by the fact that he never go to see his novel on the big screen. Jodie Foster is wonderful and the other actors support her well. I was so impressed by this movie that it was among the first DVD's I bought! This film will definitely go down in Sci-Fi history. I could go on about how good this movie is and how the religion vs. science thing was artfully handled, but that would take up too much space. Suffice to say, I loved this movie.
