Summary: No script, plot, or story; but it's about everything
Review: This is not some new-age ambient music video, it's an extremely intense video essay for those who are susceptible to the visual/audible language of the filmmakers. However, if you want to see a film once and know what it was about and what it all meant this probably isn't a film you'll like. I've seen this film probably seven times at a local repertory theater, in 70mm (the last surviving copy) and each time I thought I understood more, but walked away with more questions, about the film as well as the world it depicts. I'm tempted to mention some of the sequences that are especially vivid in my mind but I think you should see it without preconceptions. What stands out for my friends is different from what I came away with. Rest assured that the filmmakers went all over the world, into all manner of urban and rural environments, to get the footage for this film. I haven't seen the video (as opposed to the film) yet -- I would say if you get it, try to watch it on a very big screen at least the first time. In the dark. Without interruption.

Summary: I was looking for something...
Review: I am a visual artist who deals with the spiritual self. I was looking for something to help me express this more clearly. I found "it" in the beauty and simplicity of this film, which is a reminder that if we dare to return to our origins, what a remarkable group we would be!

Summary: A beautiful expose of the ancient cultures in our world
Review: It's amazing how a visual stimulant, as this film is, can put one into a transhipnotic state to where they feel the innocence and beauty of the cultures they are being exposed to. Baraka reminds us of how the modern world has blurred the focus on ancient cultures and religions. And with the images Baraka shows us, I feel as though we are forgetting the importance of the Old World and being reminded of how industrial the Western world lives. What an amazing film!

Summary: So good, someone stole my copy
Review: I bought the video just from word of mouth, it is always a nice feeling to know you got every penny's worth... unfortunately someone stole my copy... I'm hoping the DVD will come out soon. The images are fabulous.

Summary: brings to the fore what filmaking can be
Review: Baraka is available on Laser Disc, so I guess it cant be too long before we get it on DVD. I hope.

Summary: See it and see what you're missing in this world of ours
Review: Every time I watch this movie, I'm reminded how amazing this world is, and how much of it I'm sheltered from. Moving. Amazing. See it.

Summary: The archetype of the cinematic tone poem.
Review: Just finished watching this on the Independent Film Channel. Baraka is a work which gives no plot but offers suggestions and ideas about how humans have evolved and what we are. Modernity in the film is viewed by some as "negative" but is actually a realistic interpretation of human progress. It shows us what we have gained and what we have lost as a result of technology. The ending is my favorite part because it shows us our future which lies in the heavens beyond the sphere of Earth. This film also shows a variety of human emotions and the range of feelings which are expressed are derived from the visuals. The soundtrack is essential to this work because it helps emphasize the key points the director is showing. This is a must see. When I get money I am going to get the DVD and the soundtrack.

Review: Nothing to add to the praises to Baraka, only problem is why not released in DVD yet.

Summary: This is it!
Review: I almost solved the meaning of life after watching this movie. It is the only tape that we watch when friends come around.

Summary: The DVD format is perfect for this flick!
Review: This should have been the first movie to be released on DVD, it's a scandal that it is not yet on DVD.
