Summary: The Glory of Karate
Review: "We'll live forever, knowing together that we did it all for the Glory of Love..." The sweeping strains of that Peter Cetera theme song still choke me up. If the first "Karate Kid" set the standard, then "The Karate Kid: Part Two" cemented the legend. Watch as Mr. Miyagi confronts the culture he left behind in Okinawa. Remember, this kindly old guru of the martial arts was an American WWII vet, so his former Japanese compatriots are less than thrilled at his return. Meanwhile, Daniel-San takes on local hood Chozen, breaking it down while breaking glass as the Moody Blues blare on the soundtrack. The romance, the courage, the honor, the camaraderie is all here, as Daniel learns the eternal secret to making some dude's nose honk. "Live or die, man." To live in a world without " The Karate Kid" just wouldn't be the same.

Summary: When we last left Daniel...
Review: ...he had just won the bad-... Karate tournament. We get a quick glimpse of Miyagi's fighting prowess as he keeps Master Kobra Kai from killing the kid that lost to Daniel. Great cameo's from all of the Kai's you knew and loved.

Now, we learn that Daniel got dumped by Elisabeth Shue. (Big shock there.) So, obviously, he goes back to Miyagi's homeland to help his Jedi Master. Turns out the Miyagi has a Sith-Lord arch-enemy back there. The enemy also has a son that wants to kill Daniel. Staring to notice that Daniel makes people mad just by being around?

Daniel finds another love interest and here we go. We culminate with another fight to the finish. Death may be on the line here! Daniel immediately tries the deadly Crane technique but the bad guy saw the first Karate Kid about a hundred times so he's not fooled. Uh-oh...no signature move? Wait...we'll come up with this drum technique that gives Daniel the eye of the tiger or something. You guessed it - Daniel uses the punching drum technique that wins him the match and keeps the hope of another sequel alive!

A few steps down from the first installment, but entertaining nevertheless.

Summary: The first one was much better...
Review: After having fallen in love with the original Karate Kid movie, I was definitely disappointed by this one...the acting is terrible and there are too many holes in the plot. Also Elizabeth Shue did not return as Alli, which is quickly explained at the beginning as her having "Fallen in love with some football player..." and wrecking Danny's car. So much for true love. You also never see his mother at all and it's obvious they were trying to cover for that.

The whole thing is about Danny and Mr. Miyagi going to Okinawa to find Miyagi's childhood sweetheart and battle his enemy who were both conveniently not mentioned in the previous movie. Danny also gets a new girlfriend, which again wrecks the whole idea of the first movie that he and Alli were in love. If you want my advice, don't bother seeing this movie. It kind of ruined the original for me, don't let it do so for you. The only thing I will give it credit for is the final fight scene.

If you have to see KK2, think of it as a separate movie, not a continuation of the first one.

Summary: Not as good as the first.
Review: Although not as good as part I, Karate Kid II is still a worthy sequel which is almost as good as the original.

The movie starts off where part I ended right after the tournament. Miyagi has some issues he needs to resolve in Japan -the homeland of Karate- and allows Daniel-sahn to go with him. The entire movie, in fact, transpires in Japan, where both Miyagi and Daniel-sahn encounter personal problems of their own, namely from bullies, and are forced to resort to karate to solve them. While the movie has interesting Japanese cultural elements throughout, the final fight scene wasn't exactly spectacularly-choreographed and turned cheesy when Daniel-sahn uses clasped open palms to slap the crap out of his enemy, his inspiration being a chorus of wooden paddles being sounded simultaneously. Still, not a bad flic.

Summary: One of my personal favorites...
Review: Although the plot is not as complex as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, this movie has a deep place in my heart. The story is a powerful one of Miyagi's having to return to Okinawa to see his dying father and confront an old friend who is now his enemy. He takes Daniel along, of course, and Daniel gets to experience first hand the culture that his Karate came from. While there the two have many experiences, which I will not ruin for you if you haven't seen the movie, and overcome some personal obstacles. This is my favorite in the series, and one of my all-time favorite movies. Characters become more developed and the story is classic. if the first one is Daniel's story, this one is Miyagi's. This is a MUST watch!

Summary: Daniel San is turning Japanese, I really think so.
Review: As a child of the 80's this film has a special place in my heart. Daniel (Macchio) and Mr. Miyogi (Morita) go to Okinawa. There Daniel learns about Mr. M's past, lives through a hurricane, and uses his Karate action, winning the heart of the lady fair, Kumiko. Simplistic, yet memorable, this is a film that will charm younger viewers and will bring the revisitors back to 1984, when jelly-bracelets, Madonna and the theme song, "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera, were cool.

Summary: i found better than part one
Review: I felt Avildsen's followup to The Karate Kid was slightly better than his initial film. The story was much fuller and the fight scene was better. The characters were more developed and the karate was better choreographed. Unlike the flop of a third film, the second is really good.

Summary: Just a pleasure
Review: I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this film. It's got that wonderful blend of action, excitement, and fun in a story. It kept me on the edge of my chair the entire time. The plot is just brilliant. Mr. Miyagi and Daniel have their budding courtships, which were a pleasure to experience with the characters. But then there are the "conflicting" stories with our two main characters, each with their suited adversary. I liked the ending to Mr. Miyagi's story, the fact that it didn't have to end in violence. And I REALLY liked the end fight with Daniel and Toshio, not only for the action and fighting aspect, but when Daniel got that focused invincible fighting thing going, I was like, "Yeah, Daniel. You go boy!!" Any audience member who was with Daniel throughout this movie just LOVED this moment. THAT is what a movie should do for the audience. Just wonderful all around. FUN, FUN, FUN!! ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!! And good story writing to back it all up. Please buy this, it's good.

Summary: The 80's tradition comes back
Review: I should be considered an expert on this film but I'm not going to claim it. Right now I'm in Kyoto Japan and I am Japanese-American. So this movie has a very special meaning to me. I saw it when I was very little and loved every minute of it. I was always asking my mom if certain things were correct or if the Japanese was correct.
Albeit now the Japanese Slang is a bit old and the issues are a bit ancient (not to also mention most of the movie was filmed in Pat Morita's home state of Hawaii). This movie still speaks to me.
I like it better than the first and truthfully I think whether it's better or not is just a state of opinion not actual quality. I just think the second one speaks to me more than the first. I wasn't the skinny outcast being picked on in high school.
However, I recommend seeing both the first and second not only because of the messages relayed within about honor, respect, love, and the bond between an aged fisherman and a kid from New Jersey, but also because these movies have some of the greatest one liners ever!
"Daniel-san nobody perfect."
Check them out and see what I mean. Relive the 80's and come back to the depressing reality TV era.
BTW I'm reviewing the Japanese DVD. They just remade all the movies here on DVD for about $15 each. So I'm picking these up.
