Summary: An insult to movies!
Review: Imagine a cross between Big (young boy sees what his life might be like when he grows up) and Back to the Future Part II (younger self gets to meet his older self), and you'd have a pretty good idea of the concept of this movie. Big is one of my favorite movies, so one of the next things I should say is that... this is no Big. In that film, a little boy fed up with being a minor makes a wish and becomes a grown-up version of himself, with his inherent innocence intact. This film takes that same boy, ages him 32 years, and you get a cranky jerk (Willis). That's when the twist comes in, with his 8-year-old self paying him a visit. Willis' character seemed too cranky to me; yes, he's a jerk, but he's not a "funny jerk." That wouldn't matter much if this wasn't ostensibly a comedy. He's also unsympathetic, and that doesn't change much over the course of the film. Bill Murray played a similar jerk in Scrooged, except that film had the advantage of well-timed flashbacks (the Ghost of Christmas Past) to give a clue at the sweet guy he used to be.

Spencer Breslin is supposed to be that sweet kid that Wilis' character used to be, but I was never taken in by his character. This isn't anything about Breslin's role; it's a script thing. Audrey Wells' Guinevere script helped make that one of my favorites of 1999, but here, she seems to be connecting the dots along a predictable course. The history of the project gives a hint into that; this movie comes from a much older script than Guinevere, and it might just be that she's progressed as a writer since. Disney's The Kid could have used specific instances in the interaction between Willis and Breslin where we see how the boy has changed to become the man. There are some attempts made, but that I can't remember them tells me they didn't work. It's funny how a movie that has only one major character can still leave you feeling like he was underdeveloped. We never get an idea of why he's dating Amy, for example (Mortimer is miscast as Willis' sort-of-girlfriend). I was also taken out of the film during the final sequence when some time-travelling occurs into the past. Wells' script doesn't explain, for instance, why some characters can be seen and others can't (Willis is invisible when he goes back), or for that matter, how they "time travel" at all (we know who and why; we don't how). For his part, Spencer Breslin is funny in a few scenes, as is Willis, but the film also has a pace that will test the attention span of young children. That's what happens sometimes when a film tries to be too ambitious (both touching and funny); they both get lost in the mix.

Director Jon Turteltaub, with the over-manipulative score by Marc Shaiman, tries to push our emotions through a marathon race of highs and lows. It's understood that music and direction for movies that are aimed at all ages have to have to set the mood appropriately, but the conventions are pushed to limits here. The movie does have a few funny moments, but as a whole it just doesn't work, and you're left with a movie you have trouble remembering two hours later. Kids will probably laugh at some of the jokes, and fidget at other times, but parents will probably be left wondering where they parked the car, or if there's enough time to take the kids to Chicken Run

Summary: Misleading title...Great movie
Review: The movie should not have included 'Disney'. This will connotate it as a kid movie. But, this is more than that. It is a movie for grown-ups as well as kids. One of my best movies of the year (I have watched most of the movies this year). Kudos to Bruce Willis for acting well with kids again. Just like last year's blockbuster, The Sixth Sense, this movie is very appealing and heart-warming.

Review: It looked as though this was going to be a typically American overdone tear-jerker, but it came out OK in the end.

Summary: Great Movie!
Review: I am a big fan of time travel movies such as Back to the Future II. This movie, not exactley time travel but great anyways, should be something on everyones movies-to-get-the-minute-they-come-out-list. Bruce Willis play a 40 year old man with a bad personality problem, (he happens to be an image consultant) and regrets many things in his childhood. Suddenly, one night he comes face to face with his eight-year old self who is being tormented by bully's, is overweight, and constantley is annoying. How did this boy grow up like this man. This is a movie with drama, comedy, and a very good plot that should be remembered for a long time!

Summary: A Terrific Movie!
Review: My wife and I went to see this movie expecting to enjoy some good laughs provided by the interaction between Bruce Willis and Spencer Breslin (the kid.) We certainly got the laughs and a whole lot more. This movie really moved us. It is story about a man coming to grips with the difference between what his eight-year-old self thought he would become as an adult and what he had actually become. The interaction between Bruce Willis and Spencer Breslin was perfect. Also, the choice of Emily Mortimer as the love interest was excellent, she really added a lot to the story as a character and as an actress. I highly recommend this movie. Don't be surprised when it tugs at your heartstrings.

Summary: A Disney Movie That Doesn't Act Disney
Review: This is a Disney movie that was reserved for the adults and I was glad for it. Unlike Flubber which had a huge star and very sorry story. The movie had lot's of laugh's but very annoying cast and such. Which is why I approched this movie VERY CAREFULLY only to find out there was no need to worry! The story was great, humor clean and funny, no annoying chariter's, and it was made for the ADULTS! Something a movie with the Disney logo never useally does. This movie is well worth the price of admition and my five stars!

Summary: One of the best Disney films I've ever seen.
Review: I think THE KID the funniest and most touching live action Disney film since COOL RUNNINGS(1993). Bruce Willis plays Russ Durrets, a 40- year old "jerk" who meets the eight year old version of himself. With the kid's help and a little lesson from his girlfriend, Russ becomes a changed person. Filled with laughs and moral lessons, THE KID is a film for everybody. Don't let the Disney name scare you away.
