Summary: A Comedy Classic
Review: This is the very funny film that put both Tim Burton and Danny Elfman on the map. Like the old Warner Brothers cartoons, it works at different levels for adults and children and can be enjoyed through multiple viewings. Children will appreciate Pee Wee Herman's manic style of comedy. Adults, while enjoying this as well, are also likely to notice that the movie swirls with images from the filmgoer's collective unconscious, all delightfully twisted for comic effect. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is a giddy kaleidescope of parodies on '70s road pictures, Hitchcock films, James Bond, the Bicycle Thief, the Petrified Forest, and about a dozen other films or genres. Danny Elfman's score is perfect for the movie, full of ironic references to classical film composers like Bernard Herrmann ("Psycho", "Vertigo") and Ennio Morricone ("The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"). Pee Wee's adventures out on the road seem larger than life, drawn from deeply ingrained archetypes of the American film. At the end, the movie's focus contracts and we see that Hollywood is actually smaller than life, full of banal falsehood. The irony is almost unbearable: it is this same Hollywood that brings us the bigger-than-life images on which Pee Wee's adventures are based! In the final irony, James Brolin and Morgan Fairchild provide a patently phony "Hollywood version" of Pee Wee's story. Tim Burton seems to be telling us "don't look for your dream in Hollywood; it isn't there--the beauty lies within, in the world of your own imagination." It is a world in which something of the child lives on in the mind of every adult.

Summary: Best DVD Experience Yet!
Review: Words cannot describe how I felt when I first turned on this DVD. The movie by itself already is a classic. This DVD is probally the best thing since sliced bread! Amazon.com also forgot to mention the awesome deleted scenes, especially the one with Amazing Larry (and his flying toupee)! If you're a Pee-wee fan, the meaning of life is in this DVD. One big but(hehe!)though is that this edition is widescreen, so you don't get to see the goofs like the chain coming up through the bike case. Despite that minor fact, this is still the best DVD ever. So run out and pick it up now!

Review: Before Paul Reubens became infamous for other things, he was Pee-Wee Herman, and all of America loved him and his show. With a wild mix of sexual ambiguity, wit, warmth, and camp, Pee-Wee appealed to everyone. He had a bit of a nerd and a sophisticate deep in his soul, but he had a strong sense of fairness and decency, and frankly, I miss him. This movie, a cotton-candy-colored but deceptively smart comedy, will have you laughing from beginning to end. Of all of the wacky cameos and constant barrage of visual delights, Jan Hooks' brilliant comic turn as the hostess of the Alamo resonates the deepest comic chord. And that off-kilter score by Danny Elfman captures the spirit of the character and the particular plot of this film perfectly. Try it, you'll like it.

Review: i have waited and hoped and wished for this to be released on DVD! i could never find it on laserdisc and my tape of it is on Beta. this movie is one of burton's best. weird and silly but heart-warming at the same time. pee-wee is so endearingly childish, it'll make you forget his real-life transgressions. if you keep an open mind, you will love this movie...guaranteed.

Summary: Everyone I know has a big but
Review: This is a movie I'll treasure my entire life. Just waiting to watch the 'curves ahead' road sign get pulled by the camera cracks me up. How can so many gags add up to a clear story line? Brilliant. The writers, Paul Ruebens and Phil Hartman capture a young boys world perfectly, but in an adult's body? It works. And it works in such a way that it only adds to how hilarious this movie is. The Tim Burton imagery is perfect. The Dan Elfman music is perfect. I really like this movie, and always find something more to enjoy with every viewing.

Review: I saw this movie along time ago when I was little and I loved it. I use to watch it everyday and I still love it. I hated Big Top Pee-wee it wasn't a good sequel. But I hope they make more Pee-wee movies than these two. Did you know that Phil Hartman wrote the script to Pee-wee's Big Adenture? Pretty cool, huh?

Review: Paul Rubins is a COMIC GENIOUS! I can't get enough of his work. I bought this movie years ago on VHS and can't wait to get it on DVD. This is the type of comedy you can watch over and over again. I catch something new every time I see it! Pee Wee - PLEASE MAKE MORE MOVIES LIKE THIS ONE!

Review: This movie is hilarious! It's much better than Big Top Pee Wee! Pee Wee's most treasured possession, his bike is stolen, and he goes all over to get it back! I especially like Large Marge and the end chase scene! It's too bad Pee Wee can't make any more movies!

Review: Tim Burton's first film remains one of his purest gems. It isn't just some wacky kid's movie -- although it is that, too -- it's a dynamic and magical whirlwind of the imagination, and what it means to have an imagination in the first place. It's an utterly unique and extremely funny movie, for people of any age. I first saw this film as a kid, and it absolutely enchanted me -- it has very important inspirational qualities. A true winner in the category of cinema, and one of Burton's best movies.
