Rating: Summary: One of the Greatest! Review: This is one of the greatest existential films of all time. Not only that, it also happens to be Tim Burton's finest film. One day there will be graduate dissertations on this movie and it will be studied in cinema programs as the example of the quintessential screenplay. Statues will be built in it's honor and children will be named after Pee-Wee. This movie is poignant- yet at the same time menacing and scatological. It's a lot like a warm spring day punctuated by the mysterious homicide of a distant cousin at a family picnic- exciting, yet vaguely apprehensive. My oldest child told me he didn't like this movie- it so I disinherited him. I stand by that decision.
Rating: Summary: Think this movie is going to suck? Think Again! Review: I rememeber the day I first saw this on Encore, i had caught in the middle thinking it would be a bad movie, but boy was I wrong, it's funny, smart, and fun to watch again and again, I love the first about 25 minutes the most, Pee Wee at the magic shop and his fight with Francious are hilarious. I think Tim Burton has be a genius for his direction in this film he moves the camera as if he is telling you what is going on scene after scene. Also, listen to Danny Elfman's score as you watch, I love his 'Psychoisque' song whenever Pee wee's bike is stolen. Paul Ruebens also did a great job in this movie, despite what all that has happened to him, see this flm will make you wonder - why don't they making another one of these movies?
Rating: Summary: The Funniest Movie Ever! Review: This movie is very very very funny. My nephew and I love this movie. The movie is a blast. Pee-wee Herman is very very very funny. The story line is excellent. I watch this movie all the time. I've seen this movie since I was a little kid and now I never ever get tired of watching this movie. The funniest part that I thought that was very very funny is the basement scene. The best scene in the entire movie was the studio chase.
Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD Review: This movie is one of my all time favorites. You can definitly see Tim Burton's style shine through in this movie and Pee-Wee, well...he's Pee-Wee and what more could you ask for! The special features are also excellent. The commentary from Paul Reubens and Tim Burton, along with the deleted scenes are enough reason to buy this one!
Rating: Summary: hip hip horray for pee wee Review: this movie was not only stimulating it was quite educational too. never have i experienced such a wide range of emotion. from the heart wrenching scenes to the slap stick humor. this was an all around good time!
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids! Review: What do you think of when you hear the name Pee Wee Herman? Ok, besides that. You probably think he's just a loud, childish fool who used to have a tv show a while ago. Well, you were only seeing him from one side. His tv show WAS loud and childish and most adults would never give him a chance. This movie is not like the tv show, though. It is a genuinely funny movie for all ages. Just watch the part where he hitchhikes with Mickey and you'll know that they were writing with adults in mind. There is sarcasm and in-jokes galore that no kid would get, but adults would find hilarious. I'd compare it to the 60's Batman show in that way. Kids loved the action, but adults loved the sarcasm and over the top acting. In Pee Wee's Big Adventure, kids would love how goofy he is and adults would love the excellent, intelligent writing. This is definitely one of the greatest movies of the 80's and is still as fresh now as it was then.
Rating: Summary: Bizarre and Entertaining Review: Why this movie is so appealing lies in the concept. An innocent, childish person is shoved into the real world, full of corrupt and hideous individuals. This seems to be a favorite theme of Tim Burton. Something which is originally light-hearted is perveted by reality. These themes occur in Batman, Beetlejuice,Batman Returns, Edward Scisorhands, and Pee-Wee. This movie is that idea in its most structured form. The plot is built around this theme of corrupted innocence. Along the way, Pee-Wee runs into many strange people, and he is thrown into many strange situations. Crooks, ghosts, big brutish men, hollywood, and othe assorted demons are presented to poor Pee-Wee who just wants to find his bike. Hillarious, weird, and wonderful. A five all the way.
Rating: Summary: Take note, Danny Elfman fans! Review: As a fan of Danny Elfman since his "Forbidden Zone" and Oingo Boingo days, I was pleasantly surprised by the interesting commentary Elfman provides between his compositions on the isolated audio track. I, like many others, was very disappointed that not all of the originally-advertised extras were included on the DVD, but based on the overall quality of the released product, I still feel it earns "five stars".
Rating: Summary: Large Marge Sent Me... Review: ...and she said that if you don't get this feature-packed DVD, you'll be missing out on a real treat! We all know the film is funny and inspired: Mr. Reubens and Mr. Burton made magic on a budget. But this picture holds up like Miss Yvonne's hairdo and the generous additions take full advantage of the DVD format. The commentary by the star and the director is quite casual and down-to-earth. No pretense here. It's as much a treat to hear them covet certain props and reveal which they "kept" after the film as it is to learn how Tim Burton got the director's job. There is also an interesting, informative piece that features production sketches set to commentary from the set designer. Extremely cool. Danny Elfman also talks about his memorable score on an isolated track. The salvaged bits in the "Deleted Scenes" section are a bit rough visually but worthwhile nonetheless. Cool DVD interface, too. Your money will be well-spent on this. Paging Mr. Herman, Mr. Pee-wee Herman...
