Summary: fantastic
Review: I'm gonna make it short and sweet.Bring on more and more of the great Musicals in this fromat. The sound is fantastic. I have watched it over and over. A must for Musical fans. Thank you Warners for putting so much effort into this. Another great example of what DVD is all about. Brett

Summary: Sensational DVD/Excellent Transfer/Wonderful Film
Review: I have seen this DVD more than a dozen times--it's one of my two-year-old's favorites--and the occasional comment here that the video is less than superb are dead wrong. I have seen it on a first generation Pioneer DVL-90 player as well as a new Sony DVP-S550D, and with either player the presentation is astonishingly good--particularly considering that the film is now more than 35 years old. The introduction with Shirley Jones gives you some idea of the care with which Warner has addressed the transfer. The introduction clearly was prepared before the final video transfer, and uses a few snippets of scenes that clearly originate from an earlier transfer. The snippets are fuzzy and lacking in vibrancy. The film itself is sensational, as can be seen from the brilliant colors of the period costumes and the band uniforms.

I have also seen the old VHS and laserdisc editions, and any comparison of video quality is absurd. On audio the "Lida Rose" sequence demonstrates the effective use of all three front channels. There is, of course, little in the surrounds, as this is a musical and not "Die Hard".

The musical is itself a joy; superior to most due to the wry wit of the author.

This DVD is a must-purchase for musical fans.

Summary: DVD Version of The Music Man was out of Focus For Me
Review: I couldn't finish watching this one. It gave me a headache. The picture had a slight white shadow around the figures, just enough to make it appear out of focus. Maybe the VHS verison is OK, but if all DVD disks are the same quality that I saw, I'd say skip this one.

Summary: Was a Great Musical
Review: Music Man starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones was one of the best musicals of the 60's. Robert Preston was a good con man who falls in love with Shirley (who was Marion the Librarian). An excellent movie for anyone age.

Summary: A well-produced movie musical.
Review: The Music Man is a charming story about a sleepy midwestern town that gets shaken to its foundation by a fast-talking traveling salesman who falls in love. I have enjoyed this movie countless times. It's nice to see what America was like in the early 20th century. With the new millenium coming up in 2001, it's rather nice to watch this musical. Robert Preston, Shirley Jones and the rest of the cast all did an excellent job, especially Shirley Jones. It's not easy playing the part she played. I have seen much of the Robert Preston's work and this is the best role he's done. All of the songs, from "Being in Love" to "Ya Got Trouble", are well-written and tend to stick in your head. This one of THE best musicals I have ever seen. If you want a good musical, this is it.

Summary: Really comes to life with the widescreen version
Review: The regular release of this movie is unsatisfying. There's literally too much movie to fit on your TV set. You'll see someone singing to someone, but you can't see who. Well, in this widescreen version, you'll see it all. The movie suddenly makes a lot more sense during such numbers as "Goodnight My Someone". If you like "The Music Man" treat yourself to this widescreen version. You won't regret it. If you've never seen it, get this version instead of the "other" one.

Summary: The musics and the person are just terrific
Review: I like this film because I like the music man acts. He acts terrific and outstanding. My favorite part is when he fell in loved with the woman that she is a librarian. He is also a funny guy. Also, this film uses classic english (that I always like). I would given this 50 stars, but the highest number is 5. Also, this movie has no errors. I think you should watched it. For those who hated music movie, then I suggest you not to watch it because mostly this movie is musical. This movie is way lot better than "The Sound of Music"

Summary: If you like musicalss you'll LOVE this one!!!!!!!
Review: there are over 20 songs in this movie... some are slow, and some are fast... it depends on what time of the movie it is. But overall it's a really good "old-fasion" musical movie. So if you like musicals you'll love this one!!!
