Summary: Amazing Things About Joseph
Review: This movie was amazing! I've seen the play and own the CD, and this was by far better. The cast has so much fun with their roles that the audience can't help but enjoy the performance. Donnie Osmond was made for this role, and Maria Friedman shines as the Narrator. I saw another review that said this was racy and distasteful for children, but I found it no more inappropriate than the live performance, and the scenes in question are over so fast, children will hardly have time to question it. I think it's great for the whole family, musical-lovers and nonmusical-lovers alike! I expected it to be the taping of a live performance, and was dreading the poor quality that is unavoidable in such cases, like extreme facial closeups, and bad lighting. What a surprise this was! It was nothing like I expected, and better than I hoped!

Summary: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Review: WOW! I just viewed "Joseph..." this evening and I loved it. ANYONE who has truly enjoyed a Rice and Weber production will find find this to be great fun...as it was intended to be. Some of the others that have reviewed this need to lighten up! I found Maria Friedman perfect in the role of the Narrator. Donny Osmond was incrediable, I think my crush from 25 years ago may return, what a hotty! Best suggestion watch it and have some fun; sing the songs, laugh at the jokes, and STOP trying to figure out what the women are wearing (that's kinda freaky behavior anyway). Enyoy!

Summary: My comparison
Review: I saw this production 3 times in Chicago. The first 2 withDonny Osmond, and I then I listened to the CD a thousand timessince. Last Christmas I saw the version that is now traveling with Patrick Cassidy and Debbie Gibson as the narraator. It was a disappointment because it wasn't the props or sparkle the I remembered. Seeing this video was a HUGE reminder to what I loved best about this. Not just Donny, but its the original costumes and props. There were very few differences, and the ones there were didnt ruin it for me. The reason I say 4 stars is I really disliked the narrarator in this. Sometimes it seemed like she was going horse and I that bothered me. I have waited over a year for this to be released and it was well worth it.

Summary: The Best Bible Musical
Review: This work was the best Bible based Musical I ever saw. I saw the show in Chicago, and this made me relive the moment. Very Good.

Summary: Go Go Joseph
Review: I just got the video today and have already watched it twice. It's not what I expected but I found myself falling in love with it. Donny Osmond is wonderful and the brothers are a riot! My only complaint is Ms. Potifar, my 9 year old was full of questions. That part could have been a little more "family oriented". All in all it's a great performance, and my family and I will watch it for many years to come.

Summary: Hilariously Funny!
Review: Knowing the music well but never having the opportunity to see Joseph on Broadway, I was thrilled to buy this video. The only things I would change are the narrator and the outfits worn by Pharaoh's women! Yikes! Otherwise I found it entertaining, hilarious and well put together -cheesy props and all! This is typical Andrew Lloyd Webber and I LOVE IT!

Summary: Any "Joseph" will do
Review: As many of my fellow "Joseph-philes" have stated, this production could be better, but some "Joseph" is better than none whatsoever. I'm just glad to have it in my possession as it is one of my top three favorite musicals. I had never seen Donny Osmond in the title role and I think he did a great job. He's made a successful transition from his purple socks to Joseph's loincloth. Still, Sam Harris would have been my choice -- he can cut loose like no one else, and I couldn't help but feel that Donny was holding something back at times. I'm neutral on the narrator, although she and the children started to grate on my nerves after a while. And I'm glad that Robert Torti is back to his lip-curling antics as the Pharaoh. But where's the "Joseph Megamix"? And why was it necessary to edit down so many of the songs? It's a musical, for crying out loud! And I don't get the rationale behind casting Joan Collins as Mrs. Potiphar as she really did nothing to add to the production. I guess they just wanted a "name" and she needed the work. Don't get me wrong -- the video is OK, and I know that I'll watch it over and over for a "Joseph" fix. I just have to adjust to the fact that no video is going to be comparable to the actual stage production I just wish Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber and company had been more committed to keeping the integrity of the show.

Summary: Thankfully stays to the stage version
Review: We saw Donny Osmond in Joseph in 1996 and loved it, and when we heard the show was coming out on video we got apprehensive that they would try do more with the story and change our overall feelings of the show. We couldn't have been any more wrong, they did an excellent job of bring a Broadway show to video without screwing it up. The opening was an added dimension, Donny Osmaond was excellent and the narrator was also great.I recommend this video to anyone who loves theatre and a good musical.

Summary: Enjoyed it... but had some low points
Review: I am an avid ALW fan and a huge fan of Joseph. I enjoy Donny Osmond's portrayal of Joseph and his singing ability. I was fortunate enough to see the London Palladium production on which the video was based. I credit the creative team with the transfer to video and the innovative use of the children- bringing them from the sidelines to have the story center around their reactions. I was VERY disappointed with the narrator. She lacked the power of Lindsey Hatley who played the role in London. I also greatly missed the Joseph Megamix at the end.

I will continue to watch the video again and again but now it could have achieved more.

Summary: A Great Modern Musical
Review: I own the DVD version of this movie and it is visually stunning. The combination of live stage sets and special effects along with a music-video style presentation of different numbers make this a truly special presentation. The sound has an extremely wide dynamic range, so you will need to keep your remote volume control handy while viewing. All of the actors are tremendous, except the narrator. She is painful to look at - why all the dark eyelid make-up? Plus her voice seems a little tired, not to mention her looks. Donnie Osmond does an outstanding job portraying innocence and power in one character throughout the video and the dancing is excellent. Despite the narrator, though (she gets easier to handle as the video goes on) this is a first rate musical.
