Summary: Go Go Donny
Review: A very lively, entertaining, peppy video well worth watching over and over again. I must admit that when I first turned on the video I thought the wrong tape was put in the carton, but as soon as I "got into" the video I was totally enthralled. Donny Osmond is a winner, with a such a commanding presence. The songs are memorable as well. I find myself humming "Go Go Joseph" every now and then throughout the day. Bravo on a job well done.

Summary: Kids are still singing the songs!
Review: Our family loved it! Video and sound (DTS) were excellent on the DVD. The music is infectious. The Potapher costumes were a little risque for my tastes, but our 7 & 5 year olds didn't notice it at all. Both Freidman and Osmond were outstanding. Our daughter wants her school to do "Joseph" next year. I am ordering a cast CD right now!

Summary: Who'da thunk it? That Osmond Kid is really good...
Review: ...it is a visually stunning presentation of Rice/Lloyd Webber's premier rock opera. I knew of the opera's existence all these years and being a huge fan of "Jesus Christ Superstar" it is kinda odd I never checked it out 'til recent times...Newsflash! It IS an entertaining show and Donny Osmond as Joseph is just a perfect fit--think of Donny's life, notwithstanding the bubble gum image he's had all these years and all--get it? Someone said below, it's not exactly for kids with all the half nekkid dancers roaming about, especially in the Elvis as Pharoah showstopper, but it is still one they overall will enjoy. Joan Collins does Dynasty-style vamping as Mrs. Potiphar and personally I think Maria Friedman does a superb job as the Narrator...

Summary: Not nearly as good as first Lloyd Weber movie; Cats
Review: This film version of "Joseph" is not nearly as wonderful as the 'live-on-the-stage' version of "Cats!" released in 1998. This movie is shot on a soundstage with very 'cartoony' scenery, and not on a real stage with the real sets. It is reminiscient of the frequent 1960's movie-musical adaptations (which often ruined perfectly good musicals). Donny Osmand, however, is wonderful and the women playing The Narrator is one not to be missed!

Summary: Wonderful....strange....fun....entertaining
Review: Great music. Maria Friedman, where have you been all my life?...you are fabulous! Donny is perfect for the part, and is a talented performer. Great story, told in a really weird way....but we love it. My four year old requests it, and sings the songs from it daily. I'm sure I'll be buying copies and sending them to my brother and sisters so they can share this with their families too.

Summary: Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - Not Bad
Review: I saw the Toronto stage production twice (with Donny Osmond) and loved it. The DVD is almost as good as being there again. My only complaint is that the megamix at the end is played over the credits rather than with the performers as in the stage version. Donny was great (of course!).

Summary: If you really like joseph....DONT buy this DVD
Review: I was very excited as many of my fellow reviewrs for the debut of Joesph on home DVD. However, the movie was not to my liking. It took away from the great play it was and it left me shaking my head. It has been dramatically changed from its stage version and its been made way to "children-y" and cartoony. I wasn't sure I was was watching Barney or a beloved play during this DVD. Friedman was awful, I couldn't stand her by the end of the movie. The brothers were good but I've seen better acting in a high school play for those parts. A lot of the songs were changed and the movie lost all the magic the original joseph had. The Proprieter scene was god-awful. Osmond was good, however, and I give 2 stars for his performance and the play itself because it really is a masterpiece. If you have a slight intrest in Joseph or live in a small town where the play will never come to you, buy this video to experience part of Joseph. I hope somebody re-makes this DVD sometime in the future for other generations to fully enjoy.

Summary: Very Entertaining
Review: Donny Osmond and Maria Friedman (the Narrator) were outstanding! My whole family loved watching the video. I was, however, a bit disappointed in Joan Collin's attire since it is billed a "Family Musical".

Summary: DONNY OSMOND, WOW! SEXY TOO!
Review: I love musicals and this version of Joseph and the Amazing Dreamcoat is a brilliant adaptation! Not only is Donny Osmond wonderful as Joseph, and very easy on the eyes! But Maria Friedman as the Narrator is sensational! I highly recommend this video if you are a lover of musicals. The music, the dance scenes, the comedy, it's just great. If all Bible stories could be told this way, I'd be more interested in the Bible!

Summary: Loved the show but DVD sound is terrible
Review: My family watched the show on PBS and fell in love with it. So, with great excitement we bought the DVD - but what a disappointment. Even my kids, who normally don't care if the sound is coming out of some cheap tape player, asked if this was the same show. I don't have DTS or Dolby Digital playback - just the analog output into a Dolby ProLogic surround amplifier. It sounds like they mixed the channels up - the rear sound effects (hand claps, chains rattling, the narrator slurping her drink) come from the front, and are louder than the singing. You have to really crank the sound up to hear most of the singing, and then some parts suddently come in so loud they blow you away. It was so uneven that I had to check my equipment with other DVDs to make sure something wasn't broken. I think they really goofed up the DVD sound and should redo it.

Bad DVD sound aside, we loved the show! There's such a fun variety in styles of music, and the lyrics are really clever. (Hey, it's not easy getting "pajamas" to rhyme with "farmers".) The kids can't stop singing the tunes.
