Summary: dumb & dumber
Review: I didn't like the video. How could all Joseph's brothers be of a different race? Are we trying to be politically correct or WHAT? Also I wish Donny had kept his shirt on. I was turned on by his hairy chest. I have seen this performed twice by groups other than Donny and co. and enjoyed it so much more. Give it up Donny!!

Summary: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Review: Joseph is my favorite musical. It is an outstanding award winning movie that I would have loved to see in the movie theater. This version is as good as any live production. Joan Collins as Mrs. Potifar is terrific. This movie has made Joan Collins one of my favorite actresses. This is the first time that I have see Donny Osmond in such a great role. I really really like Sir Richard Attenbrough as Jacob. The narrator did a fairly good job of telling the story. I loved the songs Potifar and Jacob and Sons. If you are buying this video, you are in for a real treat.

Summary: Joseph-a Winner for Everyone
Review: My kids have watched Joseph probably 100 times since I purchased it 4 months ago. Donny Osmond is ageless and wonderful as Joseph. Maybe he's a good actor :-), but he seemed to be actually enjoying himself, especially during "Calypso". Pharaoh was without equal. As a matter of fact, when my 8 year old heard an Elvis song on the radio, she said he sounded just like Pharaoh. What a credit. And Maria Friedmann was fine as the narrator. Some of the higher ranges were a little tricky, but it takes quite a bit to hit those strongly at a loud volume. Also, as an elementary music teacher, I've used this video during my musical theater unit. One alteration I had to make: I had to "black out" the visual during the Mrs. Potiphar scene. That was a little bit too much, and the only blight in this otherwise magnificent family treat.

Summary: Wonderful, Exciting, Magic
Review: Donny Osmond has 'Joseph' in his hip pocket. The interpretation from stage to video dosen't lose any of the power or creativity at all. The songs, the dance, the acting are all there for you to enjoy in your living room. It flows and excites as well as any stage production, ecept you can enjoy it at home. Donny Osmond's portrayal of 'Joseph' is truly wonderful. He plays 'Joseph' with love and passion. All of the cast executes a flawless performance, and the children add a touch of whimsey and reality to it.

This is a wonderful film for the whole family. If you weren't lucky enough to see it live, definitely buy the movie. You won't be sorry!

Summary: Reaches the highest standards
Review: I'd be happy if every DVD would be that good. Here everything seems perfect. The soung is good and you get Dolby Digital 5.1 beside a DTS track (pretty rare combination). The cast, play and performance is excellent. The whole design of the screen version is also kinda cute. Every performer seems to enjoy the play as well as everyone. Then on top you even get extra stuff, a good werkfilm almost an hour long.

I have like 50 DVDs, and this is the first to get my whole family attracted. Even my wife, and that is really something. :-)

Summary: A MUSICAL TO APPEAL TO EVERYONE
Review: My family and I were so instantly impressed with the video of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat that we immediately purchsed our own copy! The concept of the opening with a classroom scene is great. Maria Friedman and Donny Osmond (whom I had only vaguely remembered as some sort of 70's teen idol) are fantastic. In fact it's impossible to imagine a better cast at all. The Narrator, Jacob, Joseph, his brothers, their wives, Pharoah (Pharoah is GREAT!) are wonderful. The show is bright with terrific sets, great songs and a good story. A highlight is the way the cast are shown at the end in their roles of hardworking downtrodden teachers! You just have to watch this film!

Summary: AMAZING!
Review: . A friend of mine recommended this DVD to me and it took me a while to finally get it. I'm not very into theater and I wasn't sure if I was going to like this video or not but I got it anyway. Now I'm sorry I didn't get it sooner!

I got my package with several DVDs I had ordered but the other had to wait because I immediately watched 'Joseph' and I just ADORED it! The music is fantastic and so catchy. I was talking about the movie so much during dinner that my family wanted to watch it (even if they don't speak English) and my family loved it as much as I did. Now this DVD is one of the family's favorites. From my 4 year old niece to my 50 year old dad, we all enjoyed it the same.

I would recommend this DVD to anyone. It's a great addition to any video library.

I guess my only complaining would be that the sound quality of the DVD is not that good but the show is so good that it's enjoyable anyway.

My favorite characters were Joseph and the Narrator. I think they make a GREAT couple. But the rest of the cast is wonderful too. I LOVE this DVD! .

Summary: Maria Freedman...Donny Osmond...THE PERFECT CAST SELECTION
Review: In my opinion, this is the perfect cast assembled for the VIDEO ADAPTATION of "JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT" Maria Friedman is an EXCELLENT CHOICE as the narrator. Some people who reviewed her as being "terrible" are totally wrong because they've seen the stage show, listened to cast recordings and picked their favorite narrators on the count that they are vocally superior. Sure Maria Friedman doesn't "belt out" a few songs like an opera singer, but I feel she did a PERFECT job. She doesn't "hold back" or "over do it", her vocals are a perfect blend with her excellent performance in bringing expression and humor to tell the story of "Joseph...". Maria Friedman sort of reminds me of Julie Andrews on film back in those days. Donny Osmond is PERFECT vocally and an excellent actor. As an audience member, listening and watching Donny Osmond's perfomance, I can really feel the emotions of "Joseph" as he matures throughout the whole video. The rest of the cast are outstanding to watch. I was very entertained and enjoyed the stage props and sets...an excellent transition from stage to video. Just a few problems with the DVD version...the sound isn't as superior as expected to be (orchestration could have been pumped up a notch or two!). Also, the included documentary "THe Making of Joseph..." was terribly done...I expected to see more behind the scenes footage and interviews from the cast but they showed too much of Andrew LLoyd Weber & Tim Rice discussing everything with little footage...also they showed too much footage on two children's grade school productions of "Joseph...". I expected to see the making of the stage & movie...not some footage of how children productions are singing and dancing the musical at their school auditoriums. A MUST BUY FOR MUSICALS FANs younger & older!!!

Summary: It has it's moments...
Review: While Webber's musical reigns as one of my all-time favorites, the video release of "Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcost" proved to be a slight disappointment. This could possibly be attributed to the challenge of capturing the illustrious theatre experience on VHS (generally ill-fated from the start). Not necessarily an easy task, but the director does manage to weave the plot into an interesting movie setting (i.e. a production for school children), I'll give her/him at least that much credit.

In spite of it's flaws, the adaptation does have a good amount working in it's favor. The props and background scenery are brilliantly colored and exaggerated, maintaining that "theatre" feel, and the choreography is contagiously enthusiastic and enormously fun to watch. This most recent take on an older musical does nothing to detract away from the songs or story - which remains intact and unaltered - so those familiar with the theatre version will not be disappointed in that aspect.

I've never been overly fond of Donny Osmond (a bit too pretentious in my eyes), but - admittedly - he plays the ideal Joseph. Great vocals, vivid animation, and overall flawless acting on his part. The supporting characters are equally perfect in their respective roles, save for Maria Friedman (Narrator) whose facial expressions are exaggerated to a rather irritating extent. I've no complaints in regards to her voice or ability to narrate clearly, but she tried a bit too hard when it came down to the acting aspect of her role.

In agreement with an earlier review, it's not necessarily a video for younger children. Granted, the storyline is charming and easy to follow, but some of the costumes are a bit too *non-existent* for the younger viewers. Not racy enough to permanantly traumatize young minds, but somewhat scandalous to giggly young boys.

To Review:

Acting - Good; Colors - Pretty; Costumes - Rated PG; daptation - Leaves a bit to be desired...
