Summary: Marketing Ripoff...
Review: When did Lion King II become a Classic? The origional Lion King WAS a Classic (however it is not in the set). I think the Marketing people can line up the Classics in a much better package. The 2 stars go for the DVD format...can't beat it. As others have mentioned, Disney plays around with release dates....bad decision.

Summary: Not Disney Quality
Review: I believe that all these good reviews have to do with the actual movie and movie content. There is no doubt that most of these movies are classics that anybody would want in their movie collection. You can all blame Disney for the poor reviews. They screwed up on 2 things. They do not include the extras we expect from our DVD's. Not only do we expect the high viewing and sound quality (which this collection has), but we expect commentaries from the people who played the voices in theses animated films. We should also expect the wonderful theatrical trailers shown in theaters when these movies came out. The 2nd major mistake by Disney was the selection of movies. I'm sorry, but anybody with common sense knows that you can't come out with the Lion King 2 on DVD before the Lion King.

If you want to buy these movies, then fine. These are wonderful films with high movie quality good for any collection. All the flaws lie with the Disney company for the failure in putting in the extra time and effort to add features to the DVD's, especially if these movies are priced such a large amount of money. It may just be better to buy these movies individually at Amazon.com so you can read the specifics of what is included in each DVD (movie trailers, special features, commentary, etc.).

Summary: Hey, it's Disney
Review: Well, I've read the reviews of the others and I find myself much in agreement.

If you're a fan of the Disney 'classics', then you probably won't want to miss the chance to own them on DVD for no other reason than the fact that a DVD will outlast a tape. These animations are timeless and will be enjoyed for decades to come. Nice to know that they'll still be watchable 20 years from now (can the same be said for a VHS tape?).

On the other hand, Disney Studios does not offer much else on the DVD besides the film itself. While this is okay (I mean, we buy the DVD or Tape for the film, right?), it's not what I expected to see on the DVD. I had anticipated some special features - perhaps interviews, the making of the movie, etc, etc. I was a little disappointed at that and removed a star because of it.

I am also somewhat dismayed that Disney continues to play their game with prolonged releases and only offering films for a certain period of time -- as they have done with the VHS series. Does this strategy really make more money for them? Or does it merely encourage pirated copies?

In addition, I cannot for the life of me discern why they would release a sequel (Lion King: Simba's Pride) before the original film. This one factor kept me from buying the set (I bought them individually instead). Again, remove a star for misguided marketing.

All in all, this is a worthwhile purchase for you if you don't currently have the movies -- or, if you're like me and want to upgrade from Tape to DVD. If you plan to buy them, do it soon. Disney will stop manufacture and they will soon be unavailable for an undertermined period of time and the already high price will only get higher on the secondary market.

Review: Finally. Now, where is The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast...?

Summary: Stop it Disney.
Review: You just can't beat the classics. Both new and old. What is the Loin King II doing in here? Not a good idea. The piture and sound on these are fantastic. I suggest you buy the ones you want and leave the rest where it belongs. On the shelf.

Summary: I have mixed feelings about this collection.
Review: O.K., having The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio, Mulan, Lady & the Tramp, 101 Dalmetians and Peter Pan is Great. But do you think Hercules and The Lion King 2 match these classics? I don't think so! Moreover, the lack of extra features should not be a Disney standard. After all, everybody was waiting for these animated pictures in dvd format. That said, the picture quality of the discs is very good and the sound corresponds to the period in which the movies were done. Now we are all waiting for colection #2 which should include Toy story, A Bug's Life, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, Pocahontas, Snow White, Cinderella & Sleeping Beauty !

Summary: Finally! It's about time...
Review: The quality of animation was superb. As if it came out only yesterday. Check out Pinocchio. Minor problem with Little Mermaid, a short unusual pause/cut around the scene where Ariel gets her legs on shore. Perhaps the disc is bad?

I wish Disney came out with extra features. Disney take a look at Prince of Eygpt, I hope you guys do a better job on the other classics and your recently acquired Miyazaki Anime.

Summary: What more can anyone want?
Review: I know that some people would expect special features galore on these DVDs, but aren't the movies what really counts? And for the movies, I'm very grateful that they are on DVD at last. The picture and sound quality are excellent and I really don't need anything more. These are some of the best animated movies in history and the only better way to own them is to have your own cinema theather and 35mm prints - next to impossible for mayority of us. So, buy them and enjoy them while you can!

Summary: Great Picture and Sound but no Extra Feateres
Review: I do not own this set nor do I plan to buy it because of the lack of extras and high price. I have seen this at a friends house and I have to say the quality is phenominal. I already own all thease movies on Vhs and thre is no reasan for me to pay for the same movie again and get noting extra. I will buy all thease movies though when the special Edition comes out fille with Theatrical Trailers, Audio COmmentaries, behind the scenes featuretts, and interviews. One thing that really bothers me is the Pinochio Vhs that was just released and a behind the scenes documantory but the dvd dosn't. What's up with that

Summary: This is a Treasure
Review: The Disney Animation is so beautiful on DVD. The Pinnochio animation looks three dimensional. We bought these for our daughter, but my wife and I sit and watch them by ourselves. Highly recommended for the kid in all of us!
