Summary: CRACKLIN' TOAST, GROMIT!
Review: Wallace & Gromit not only is a clean and wholesome for everyone/anyone family oriented show, it also happens to be the ultimate and standard to meet when it comes to claymation. And as for the people who have only had the privilege to view "Chicken Run" (by the same creators, mainly though Nick Park), here's your chance to see the beginning of greatness.

Wallace & Gromit in general is the story of an nieve inventor (inventions you are more-than-likely to see at a foreign science fair) and his brainy but modest canine, who seem to stubble into the oddest of "adventures", with loyal Gromit saving Wallace's bacon no matter the situation. Be it a sinister jewel thief penguin or a cruel and devious mechanical bulldog, no problem is big enough for Wallace & Gromit to acheive victory for their beloved peace & quiet, and to them something not considered normalacy.

The DVD title does read "The Incredible Adventures of Wallace & Gromit", so I am hoping all his (Nick Park's) half-hour shorts are included and most likely will...with quite the bonus. A making of featurette (in which I have seen numerous times on PBS) should be included also. A featurette on claymation is quite the documentary, believe me, and definetely demands your respect.
My personal fav of the 3 episodes I've seen? Hard to choose, but "The Wrong Trousers!" edges the others by a near millimeter. Not only is the story and plot terrific and thick, but the claymation (especially after you watch the featurette, you'll realize) that takes some years to finish a 30 min. plus feature, amazingly interacts with the props (mainly Wallace's inventions, one in particular, his "Early-to-Rise" gadget that kicks him out of bed, into clothes, drops him in his dining room, and lastly makes his breakfast...I'm not kidding!) perfectly and will leave you in awe. An instant classic, no matter which incarnation of Wallace & Gromit you watch. Definetely worth any price given...you'll see.

[NOTE: "Chicken Run", which I know most and many of you have seen, should definetely be watched again, or for the first time, directly after "Wallace & Gromit". Not only will you appreciate the art of claymation, you'll also see how far Nick Park and his team have come in such a short matter of time. Then after watching "Chicken Run", watch the featurette on "Wallace & Gromit". Only then will you realize how nuts clay animators are and how much TIME & EFFORT is spent on making 30 mins. (W&G) and 80 mins. (Chicken Run) features. Come to think of it, "TIME & EFFORT" sounds to me a more proper title than "Wallace & Gromit".] Enjoy.

Summary: Thank You Nick Park, For Making A Classic Movie!
Review: Ever since I saw a grand day out I fell in love with Wallace & Gromit, they always have these funny adventures in there films, I'm so glad they released a short film classic like Wallace & Gromit on DVD because they're very good films, who cares if it's only 8 years old, it's now become a classic, and all 3 films are good, In A Grand Day Out They go to a planet of cheese, In the Wrong Trousers, They try to catch a penguin, and finally in a close shave, they try to stop a dog from shearing sheep. I recommend you buy this set and enjoy a family classic.

Summary: Ho hum. Yet another 'Must Have' 'Ultimate' 'Collectors' DVD
Review: These shorts are wonderful! I have been a fan of Wallace and Grommit since my wife introduced 'A Close Shave' to me nearly five years ago. That short was enough to get me interested in the annual animation festival in town -- it really serves as the finest example of the genre.

Why one star then? Because there are now three separate versions of these movies on the market, all with various "bonus" materials. I own the VHS and the three separately packaged DVD's (both sets available here at Amazon). Fox, along with the majority of the DVD authoring studios, is releasing this version as a slap in the face to every consumer who has bought a previous version. It's greed at it's finest.

The attraction of DVD is its digital format and the bonus materials, mostly arbitrarily added material that is trivial to release for VHS but withheld to intice DVD sales. The DVD digital format is already outdated. MPEG2 will likely give way to MPEG4, or who knows what else. NTSC will give way to HDTV. The DVD you buy now will have a short shelf-life. So the digital format is shot. The bonus material is nice for collectors but at the same time a Damocles Sword. The studios release their DVDs in multiple formats, all with different bonus materials to reap multiple sales.

This is definitely a one-star item. They should have gotten it "right" the first time through.

Summary: Can't Go Wrong
Review: ....Fun, amazing claymation, REALLY FUNNY, and short enough that your kids will watch them. (If you have 2-4 year olds, you know what I mean) We bought them before we had kids and now everyone loves them. The fact that Gromit is the real star is an accomplishment I'd put up there with Hanks and CastAway: The dog never says a word (not to mention is really just clay...) and is the best character!

You will be amazed at the skill and humor! Just buy it - it is grand fun for any age!

Summary: The best clay animation trilogy in history!
Review: Wallace and Grommit appeals to all ages. The humour and animation are just amazing. Its amazing how so much emotion can be conveyed via the movement of just an eyebrow on Grommit's head.

A Grand Day out was the first movie when Nick Park almost did this one in his home garage. It has witty humour and is very enjoyable.

The Wrong Trousers has the most amazing train chase scene I have ever seen. I still try to think how they managed to pull that scene off!

A Close Shave was produced with more money then the first two after so much success at the oscars. It is technically the most amazing and I think that this shows what will come in 2004 when Dreamworks finishes the full length motion picture of this amazing story of a clay english man and his mutt!

I would recommend this to people of all ages. You can watch it over and over without ever being bored!

Summary: what a great collection of short films!!!
Review: i was introduced to wallace and gromit from my boyfriend who moved here from england, and i must say that these two are my new heros. wallace who kind of reminds me of inspector gadget is a riot, and his side kick gromit, dog wonder of the 21st century. if only there were more than three films!!! i could listen to wallace talk all day, and gromit is just your normal relaxed quiet pet who has a mind of his own, and likes to knit. i hope if you get this, you enjoy them just as much as i did.

Summary: Hilariously funny !
Review: This is (understated) british humour at its best ! The animation (clay figures) is perfect (they used 3,5 tons of clay for the films), the script is excellent and,..well, what can you say ? - a (3 actually) film that can be viewed by both kids and adults with immense pleasure.

Finally we experience what the moon really is made of (that's cheese) !

Verdict : get it, get it !!
