Summary: So much fun, so hard to hear
Review: I believe that the majority of the Sesame Street educational videos/DVD's are beyond criticism and this is truly a joyous ride through the alphabet with the BigBird method.

But the sound quality on this is appalling. It is so quiet. When normal TV operation resumes, the sound screams out and frightens my 18 month old. In fact, the sound quality in the Sesame Street DVD series is disgracefully inconsistent.

Summary: A cute look at the alphabet
Review: My daughter, the Sesame Street fanatic, has begun singing her abc's because of this video. She's 21 months old. Big Bird and Baby Bear work on learning the abc's. Baby Bear wants to learn them because Goldilocks gets on his nerves, butting-in and finishing them for him when he gets stuck. When Goldilocks pops in, it's pretty funny. Not a good video if your child only craves Elmo though. He does NOT appear in this video. For everyone else, this is a cute way to learn the abc's and have fun with them at the same time.

Summary: Socrates & Plato, Virgil & Dante, Big Bird & Baby Bear
Review: Did you have to learn Microsoft Excel for your job? How about German in high school? Ever try to memorize poems? Not easy, are they? Think about these things and then ponder the challenge of having to learn not these skills, but the basic underlying tool that enables you to learn any of them, or most anything else - the alphabet. The cornerstone of all our transmitted knowledge, we expect our two and three year olds to learn it without being able to read it or even comprehend its significance. That's why we should all be eternally thankful for Jim Henson, the Children's Television Workshop, and that sage of linguistic prowess Big Bird and his eager student Baby Bear.

Like Virgil leading Dante through the existing cosmos, Big Bird guides the lost and forlorn Baby Bear around the obstacle of the Leonine Goldilocks and brings him safely to the blessed seat of knowledge itself, the comprehension of the English alphabet. Along their journey, Baby Bear also learns much wisdom that will come to his rescue when tested - imagination, visualization, association of ideas, and the ability of music to convey information that mere words alone cannot. It is truly a tale of grand adventure and spectacular achievement. More than even that, it's cute.

All kidding aside, at twenty-one months, our daughter has already worn out her "Do the Alphabet" VHS tape, so we sought out and purchased the DVD. That alone should tell you just how enjoyable this program is. We try to buy her programs that will be enjoyable as well as educational so she will grow with the idea that learning and enjoyment can and should go together. Bob the Builder, Veggie Tales, and the cornerstone of them all, Sesame Street are all part of her growing collection. In addition to being fun for her, they are enjoyable for Mama and Papa as well. While she laughs and dances to the music, my wife and I get a kick out of finding the many "Easter Eggs" in scenes, the hidden visual jokes in the background scenery or the humorous references in the dialogue (Baby Bear is a fountain of "wise fool" comments on everything from psychology to philosophy, as well as quite a master of the verbal riposte when necessary).

Buy this DVD. Watch it with your toddler. Let her dance and sing, laugh and enjoy. What she is learning from it will stay with her longer than you know.

Summary: My son loves this video!!
Review: My 22-month son absolutely loves this video. He watches the entire video without getting bored. Sometimes he laughs and claps his hands. Thank you, Sesame Street!!!

Summary: A great video for older infants/young toddlers!
Review: This video is a great, fun way for kids to start learning the alphabet. It's filled with good and catchy songs, entertaining cartoons about the different letters, good "live" segments (as in using real people instead of being a cartoon), and a great story to tie it all together.

My 16-month old daughter is already starting to sing along with the first song (ABC-DEF-GHI), dances along with the "T-dance" skit, and beats her hands in time with the jazzy "Alphabet Blues". She still isn't really able to talk (not having a decent set of teeth yet makes it hard to say certain letters), but I have a feeling that once she does she'll be saying the whole alphabet in short order.

Summary: Great teaching tool......if you can tolerate baby bear
Review: My 14 month old absolutely loves this DVD. She doesn't sit still and pay attention to the dialogue (the plot?), but she absolutely loves the music. She even tries to repeat many of the letters she hears. She constantly goes around singing, "EFG, EFG, EFG,..." The songs are pretty cute - her favorites are "D, D, D, D (with Ernie & Cookie), the ABC song (with Billy Joel), and the J song.

The worst part about this DVD is Baby Bear. He lisps terribly throughout the entire thing. Maybe some good will come of this though, and she will learn more tolerance of those with speech impediments:) Or, perhaps she will grow up to hate lisping bears - who knows. At any rate, even with the baby bear speech thing, this DVD does what it is designed to do - entertain young children.

Summary: great for younger kids
Review: My 17-month-old loves this video. She sings with the songs (as well as she can!) and dances and requests it ("Bird! Bear! ABCs!") constantly. Other reviewers are probably right that it's not the thing to get if you have an older child who needs to actually learn all the letters (the show is great for that) but for smaller toddlers this is a great start. She particularly loves the piggies at the barn dance.

Summary: This one's a dud!
Review: My kids, ages 1 and 2, are Sesame Street video junkies, but they won't sit still for more than 2 minutes of this awful video. The opening sequence where they set up the "plot" (such as it is) is way too long and features the lamest character in the lot -- Baby Bear. The skits and songs themselves aren't bad, so my husband and I are thinking of taping them to another tape and editing out all the garbage in between. We don't have any other alphabet videos so I can't recommend an alternative, but if you're just looking for a good Sesame Street video, my little ones love the 25th Anniversary Celebration, 1 2 3 Count With Me, and Elmo's Sing-Along Guessing Game.

Summary: A nice video, but not a good alphabet video
Review: We bought this wanting a video that reviewed all of the letters in a way that would help our son learn the alphabet. The emphasis seems to be more on singing the abc song (which most kids learn as a song way before they can recognize a letter), than learning the letters. Only some of the letters are reviewed, and in some cases only the lower case letter is presented. If you have access to the show, there's no need to purchase this video. There's nothing wrong with the video -- it the usual good Sesame Street -- but it's not a good alphabet video.

Summary: 2 Year Bi-Lingual Loves It
Review: My 2 year old is being raised bi-lingually. This DVD has helped her with the alphabet, pronounciation, etc. AND she loves it
