Summary: I liked this film, but. . .
Review: I enjoyed this film enough to want to buy a copy of the video and the soundtrack. I'm an orca fan who lives in Kansas, a place where marine life is all but completely nonexistent, so I enjoyed all the footage of the wild orcas swimming free in the ocean and Jessie's friendship with Willy. Storywise, this was a great movie. The only problem I have with it is the ending, which I'm afraid gives some people the wrong ideas about setting captive orcas free. Releasing Willy to the ocean was a fine idea in and of itself, but I feel that it could have been portrayed much better.
The end of this movie, while heartwarming, was very unrealistic. Willy has apparently been in captivity long enough to be accustomed to being hand-fed and perform tricks on command, yet upon his release, his instantly bonds with other wild orcas and the next two movies show him living as if he'd never been in captivity. This is far from the truth for most captive-raised whales and dolphins. Rehabilitation is a lengthy and expensive process with no guarantee that an animal will survive in the wild. Keiko, the real Willy, has been in Iceland for five years now and still is dependant on humans for food and companionship.
Other than this, it was a great film. I give it four stars.

Summary: A movie for all ages
Review: I loved this movie when it first came out. I couldn't tell you how many times I watched it. A couple of years ago, I bought all the movies (Free Willy 1,2,&3) for my nieces and nephews to watch. They absolutely love these movies. When they are visiting, we watch Free Willy at least twice a day. They put one of the other two in once in awhile, but they always go back to the original. I have probably seen Free Willy a thousand times. When it's in the VCR, I catch myself sitting down and watching it with them. We never get tired of it. I recommend this movie to anyone with young children (my 2 year old nephew adores it)!!

Review: I've loved this movie since I was a little kid. I just recently watched it again, and I still got the amazing feeling I got as a child. I will always love this movie, and I plan on keeping it forever so that I can share it with my children. I also love the sequels, but this one is by far the best!

Review: It was a suspensfull, heart-renching action filled adventure. At certain parts, your at the edge of your seat. Jason james richter is great in the movie, he gives a thought provocing preformance. The songs during the movie are also great, with NKOTB and michael jackson pining away in the background. Like I said, great, great movie! It's just so awesome, Keiko (the whale) will just draw you in.

Review: Nearly perfect film depicting the relationship between a boy and an orca. Both have been separated from their real families, and can really relate to each other. A real emotional story, good for any person with a heart and just a hair of compassion.

Summary: The best of the Free Willy series
Review: Of the three "Free Willy" movies, I like this one the best. A teen (Jason James Richter) befriends a whale (Keiko) and ends up getting a job working with Keiko. However, trouble arises when some criminals bust Keiko's tank trying to get rid of the whale. Jason and his friends must find a way to save Keiko by freeing him into the ocean. "Free Willy" is an all around good movie. It'll keep you interested while you watch the movie and wonder how they're gonna get the job done. If you like good drama movies, I recommend getting "Free Willy." It's one of the best drama movies of the 90's.

Summary: If you take it as fantasy...
Review: The odd thing about Free Willy is that it's a film which makes money using a captive animal to do tricks--and it's about the evils of capturing animals to do tricks for money. The film came out at the same time as and with the same mentality of its partner-in-ideology Jurassic Park (using technology to make money by condemning the use of technology to make money). If you can get over that, it's a beautiful piece of work. The best part is Basil Poledouris' wonderous score, which should have been released on its own without all the clutter of pop songs.
