Summary: What's this, What's this, there's white things in the air...
Review: Being a slightly strange child all my life at the age of seven or eight I had a real love for things that badly scared others of my age, and likewise, was badly scared by things that others of my age enjoyed. I was truly enchanted at my early age by this movie, quickly developing a love for a slightly psychotic, insanely fun film, one made with true imagination and artistic talent. It was, really, my absolute favourite film until I was about ten--I remember being upstairs, in one of my grandma's spare rooms in her hundreds of years old victorian house, watching The Nightmare Before Christmas in the dead of night. As I got older, I didn't see it again for years. That is, not until this last Halloween.
My very delightful friend (as fun and crazy as I am when it comes to anything out of the ordinary) recommended it back to me and I was excited to see it again, remembering how much I loved it when I was little.
It was every ounce to my delight, remembering myself years before, hearing this Hard-not-to-sing-with soundtrack and the wonderful characters again after so many years.
The story begins as Jack, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town in a land of holidays, is growing tired of 'the same old thing.' He longs for something new besides the screams of the terrified children heard so often at Halloween and the witches, vampires and ghoulish creatures that live in their land. Sally, a stitched girl created by the resident Doctor (Who occasionally open his helmet-like head and gives his grey-pink, wrinkled brain a scratch and transports himself in a self-moving wheelchair), has a hopeless crush upon the greatly adored Jack, and she often tries to escape the clutches of the repressive doctor, who doesn't let her out often. As sad Sally escapes to the cemetary, she find Jack, singing out his laments and sad with the regularity of his life. As forlorn, depressed Jack stumbles through the forest through the night, accompanied by his ghost dog Zero, he reaches strange ring of trees--each with a different symbol upon it with a doorknob. This one a easter egg, this one with a shamrock, this one with a turkey--another with a strange, decorated tree. Entranced, Jack opens the door and falls into the land of Christmas Town, where he declares--"What's this, what's this? There's white things in the air. What's this, there's colours everywhere. What's this? I can't believe my eyes, wake up Jack, this isn't fair! What's this?" Totally delighted by Christmas, Jack is convinced it will fill the empty hole he has felt inside, and, convinced Halloween Town will be just as excited, takes many items back with him to explain Christmas and the mysterious 'Sandy Claws'. What begins is Jack's plan to take over Santa's Christmas job, and hiring The Oogie-Boogey man's three hench-children, the top Trick-or-Treaters of Halloween town, Lock, Shock and Barrel, who kidnap Santa, and makes terrifying toys and a sleigh with a coffin drawn by skeleton reindeer.
A delgihtful, different movie experience, Tim Burton's characters are easy to get attached to and though mischevious and creepy, have a loveable quality that is contagious. I'm truly excited to purchase a movie that has been one of my favourites ever since I was a child, and can't wait to watch it again. A truly orignial, singing, chilling but cheerful film that is as timeless as any other, it's a must-see treat! And though it's slightly depressing for the Christmas holiday, it's an absolute must for Halloween.

Summary: Perfect Halloween movie
Review: This film must've took a LONG time to make. To put it in terms: this runs in 24 frames so the character is posed 24 times for just one second of film and this film is roughly 70-90 minutes but the results look amazing. At times, you gotta ask yourself whether this was computer animated.

The story is that Jack Skellington, "the Pumpkin King" of Halloween Town has just finished a successful Halloween but he's finding it repetitive and redundant so he takes a long walk and finds trees with holiday symbols and he gets amazed by the one with a christmas tree but gets sucked into that world and literally he's floored by how amazing it is and rather than show people the tree, he figures he'll make christmas himself, ignoring a girl who loves Jack named Sally, who has a vision that his christmas will go down in flames.

These songs are just too damn catchy for their own good. Written and largely sung by Danny Elfman who supplies Jack's singing voice. And the voices are excellent and really compliment their characters, especially Jack's, he's got a cool voice.

As I write this, it's 10/31/02 so it's Halloween so whether you're having a Halloween party or just want a good movie to watch, pop this in.

Summary: A great christmas movie for older children
Review: If you are looking for a film that wold be good for children day older than 7 this would be a good christmas present. But younger children like 6 or under may be scared by this movie. The movie's characters break into songs about 5 minutes after finshing a song. Jack Skellington (voiced by Chris Sarandon and signing voice is done by Danny Elfman) is the town's head pumkin man, but is diappointed when he doesn't get a prize. So he leaves town, and goes to another town named Chirstmastown. Jack goes back to Halloweentown with the idea of Christmas. Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York's Catherine O'Hara voices Sally a creation of an evil scientist (William Hickey). Okay where is Eastertown, Thanksgvingtown, April Fool's Day Town? Warning for parents this movie was rated PG for mild voilence.

Summary: Refreshing..
Review: Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year so when I hear that there was a movie out that shows "Jack" the mayor of Haloween town taking over Christmastown from Santa a ran out and found the movie!

And I loved every minute of it.. Tim Burton has a very unique way of picturing movies.. he can combine the most horrific pictures and themes into the most pleasant film that you have ever watched.. And he carries on the traditional throughout this movie.

And the music is excellent (as it should be being from Elfman)..

I however do not recommend the movie for the under 10 crowd.

Summary: A masterpiece
Review: When I finally got around to buy this DVD I had high expectations. I had not read detailled reviews of the film since I didn't want any spoilers. At first I was confused. This was not at all what I had expected. When I figured out that this is a Disney film, things made more sense. This is probably the best animated musical ever made! The music by Randy Elfman guides the story (watch "The making of..." and you know what I mean) in a way that few other films match. Excellent image quality and DTS sound makes this a reference disc for any home theater owner. Even if you don't have a big rig, just enjoy the fabulous story and music of Jack and his friends in Halloween Town.

Summary: A fun and entertaining animated classic.
Review: I'm not into Tim Burton but this is one of the only few movies of him i enjoy with " Batman", " Beetlejuice" and " Sleepy Hollow".

This is the story of a Skeleton named " Jack Skelenton" who's tired of being number one all the time in Halloween town and decides to plan on taking over a new holiday "Christmas" but what he doesn't know that it might turn out to be a disaster.

A very fun, entertaining and quotable animated feature featuring stunning animation and a cool storyline, the characters are neat such as Jack and Sally ( who's kind of cute but odd looking). and it's got tons of great songs that will make you hum them, so if your into Halloween and Christmas then check this one out with the whole family and have a good time.

Summary: Definitley a great kids' flick!
Review: This is a true dark masterpiece by Tim Burton! They have some of the most unforgottable characters such as Jack Skellengton. The plot here is (spoliers not included thank God) Halloween Town's greatest hero is Jack Skellengton but he has just grown tired of the same old thing...I won't tell how he gets there but he somehow stumbles into Christmas Town singing the unforgattble song "What's This". The fellow members of Halloween Town kidnap "Sandy Claws" and give him to Oogy Boogy. The songs are extremly well done and though out. But the only sane person in Halloween Town is Sandy who loves Jack but he dosen't know yet. The animation is fluid and bouncy and the dialouge is very witty and genius. In conclusion, this is an unforgatble Disney film that shouldn't be missed by anyone who had a soft spot for Lilo and Stitch and other great flicks.

Summary: If you dont like the movie... watch it simply for the score.
Review: Danny Elfman does a FANTASTIC job scoring this movie. He is by far my favorite movie composer... I have a HUGE amount of respect for him.

Even if you don't like this movie, the score is more than worth sitting through this film for.

On that note, I'd like to express my love for this movie as well as it's music. The animation is total eye-candy... amazing. Literally a modern-day classic. Tim Burton is God. I love everything he makes... outstanding work.
