Summary: Well worth your hard earned money
Review: This new two disc set for the Lion King is yet another masterful DVD production job by the Disney folks. The video and audio quality are top notch, with plenty of choices how to see the film (both original and extended). There are an amazing amount of extras included on disc two, it will take some hunting to find them all, and quite a bit of extra time to view the entire contents. A few are overly self promotional, but there is so much stuff here, just skip to the next item if that bothers you. Some of the games are actually fun too.

With both Lion King and Sleeping Beauty being newly released on DVD right now, if you can only get one of them, there is no question this is by far the better choice. The impressive animation, the story, the fantastic sound, the extras are all superior in this Lion King package. This still isn't my favorite Disney release (Roger Rabbit will always have that honor), but maybe top 5--certainly top 8.

Lion King Platinum is well worth the investment for your DVD collection. Your family will get many years of enjoyment from it.

Summary: I wish I could give it five stars but....
Review: When I first saw the Lion King it was with my sister and cousin at the theater. I thought it was the best. I still do but not this version of it. I would have given it five stars if it were not for the fact that there were changes made in the special edition version. Why did Disney add new songs to it and why isn't Elton John singing his songs. Instead it is some woman. This was really silly on Disney's part and doesn't make since.

Summary: Movie is FANTASTIC! DVD features are...
Review: ABOUT THE MOVIE: The movie is wonderful! The colors are bright and beautiful and the characters are wonderful. It is a wholesome adventure. Five stars! I think you all know what it is about so I won't linger on that. This is one of Disney's (company's) last great films.

ABOUT THE DVD: "The wonderful world of advertising" indeed! That review was right on.

Summary: Is this some sort of joke???!!
Review: OK...Disney could have done a lot better here. For one, the layout of the DVD is a total disgrace. I had to sit for hours trying to find the "real" version of the film (without that silly Morning Report song) and finally found it under "Languages". Of course, I should have looked there first. How silly of me.
The animation has been completely changed - if you have the old VHS version you should compare them. The crocodiles with the birds in their mouths are completely different in I Just Cant Wait to be King, and the colors in the film have been changed to brighter, more bolder colors which make the scenery look totally unrealistic compared to the VHS. Seriously, is this some sort of joke? I grew up with this movie, and now that Im older I was excited to see it again after all those years, but I was just disappointed. I am hoping that disney are trying to trick us and will release something much better than this. This DVD was the biggest waste of money. EVER.

Summary: The best Disney movie ever made!
Review: Whenever I am asked what a few of my favorite movies are, THE LION KING is always one of the first that come to my mind. I'm generally not a huge animated movie fan, but this movie is simply irrisistable! When I saw the opening scene in theaters I knew it would be a great movie- but it was fantastic, my words at the end were just ". . . WOW!" With it's breathtaking animation and intriguing story, this movie is appealing to all audiences. The realistic characters and jokes that will make even the adults laugh out loud add to the charm and beauty of this film. I've heard the opinion that this movie can be too intense for younger audiences, but I have to say that the children this is reffering to must be VERY young or VERY easily upset. I took my little sister and a buch of her friends to this movie (they were in the 4-6 age range) and not one of them were in the least bit tramautized- and couldn't find anything bad to say about it, for that matter. The sad sequences in this movie are very touching and depressing, but that's what makes this a good animated film. No magic spells or fairy dust, Mufasa is dead; welcome to the REAL world. The powerful sequence at the end when the spirit of Mufasa breifly visits Simba in a time of distress gives us all hope and show us that our loved ones will always be watching over us. This amazing video would be a great addition to any collection, but as the DVD is coming out soon, you may want to hold out and just go rent it! :-) (p.s. this is to be re-release in Christmas 2002 on IMAX theaters, so if you need some extra encouragement, go see it!)

Summary: The best cartoon comes to DVD.
Review: We have all seen The Lion King but let me tell you you haven't seen it like this before!
When the movie came out Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound was new and they did the surround like everyone was doing at the time, make it sound like there is an orchestra in front of you, center speaker for voices, rear speakers sparingly used here and there.
Now for the DVD they went back and completely re-did the surround sound in a special Disney Mix (the original 5.1 mix is still selectable), it now sounds like you are sitting in the middle of an orchestra, and all speakers are used in a way like never before. If you just got surround sound and want to test it out or have had a system for a while and want to put it to the ultimate test, this dvd is for you.

The music is larger than life, and if a tear doesn't come to your eye in the opening scene with the "Circle of Life" song, you are not human. Are you a robot? Do you have special powers? Please use them for good.

Summary: The Begining of the End
Review: This is one of my favorite Disney movies. Everything worked so perfectly on this movie: the animation, the music, the voices, even the Hamlet thing. How anyone can hate this movie is beyond me. Sadly, this was, I believe, the last great Disney movie. All the movies before this (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin) also had great animation and music. But following this we see the rise of the Piar movies and lame, boring, lifelesss sequals. Disney did great untill the mid '90's, but after that it all went downhill. This truely is the last epic, awe inspiring Disney movie. It is a must own for all Disney fans.

Summary: Donkey Was Right.
Review: The reviewer Offensive Donkey was completely right. This is VERY overrated. We thought this was going to be SO great. But it isn't. It is vulgar, coarse, and filled with awful songs. Who made this a musical. If you want a good cartoon, go watch Porky Pig. You are better off watching some cheesy Fred Astaire movie than this. Lemme give you the pathetic story: A horribly irritating young lion cub is driven away by some overly evil uncle. Then he returns as a square adult with the help of his two obnoxious friends and his egotistic girlfriend. He drives the evil king away. But who made this a musical? The songs are horrible. I'm sure they were okay when Elton John sang them , but no! Some silly woman is singing them, botching them up in the process. This is truly a band movie and ought to be banned.

Summary: Still the King
Review: When it was released in 1994, "The Lion King" was the most successful animated movie of all time, and that's hardly surprising. An inspired, vaguely-Shakespearean story, a gifted voice cast, five irresistable songs, and that flavor of Africa provided largely by Hans Zimmer and his South African cohort, Lebo M.

This new trend of Disney's, releasing a series of immersive DVDs, is terrific for buffs like me. And between the behind-the-scenes featurettes, the deleted materials, and a whole section dedicated to the Broadway musical, I really have only one complaint...

How the heck do you turn of "The Morning Report?" That is a terrible song, and the dialogue it replaces is infinitely better. Poor Rowan Atkinson.
