Summary: An Enjoyable Adventure
Review: At first, I wasn't sure if producer Don Hahn's desicion to go with more retro look for this film would work. However, it did. And there are still sequences in this film that will make you hold on to your seat while your eyes open wide with wow and wonder. In a summer so far filled with barely passable entertainment, I found Atlantis to be like a breath of fresh air. Here, the spirit of adventure is allowed to show through, and the film does it with an infectious energy. True, this is not the best of Disney films, but it is still very worthwhile watching. I had the opportunity to see the film at New York's Zigfeld Theater, and if you get the chance to see this film on a giant screen, do so.

Summary: Atlantis -- Much hype, no substance
Review: The much hyped Disney feature, Atlantis bored our family. The plot is minimal and shallow. Most disturbing is the abundance of violence -- not the fantasy kind, but hitting, kicking, shooting guns, etc. My 5 year old couldn't stand it and my 8 year old was unimpressed.

Summary: Fun, Indiana-Jones-esque Ride of a Movie!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie -- it reminded me a lot of the Indiana Jones trilogy movies, except the obvious that (1) it's animated and (2) and no Harrison Ford, although of all people, the actor who played Father Guido Sarducci does one of the voices, and he was very funny. A great movie for the whole family to see -- in our theater people burst out into spontaneous applause at the end. This is what Tomb Raider should have been -- a well-paced, often fun, old-fashioned adventure story.

Summary: Weak by Disney Standards
Review: I was mildly disappointed with Atlantis. Michael J. Fox gives some life to the lead character, but the plot is weak and does not flow well. I think the requisite attempt at Political Correctness fails in this movie because of the parallel effort to be historically acurate with respect to dates.

I think the movie would have worked better had the producers set the story in a more contemporary time frame. I found it absurd that a band of American mercenaries circa 1914 would include a late teen Latino woman. Yet the same character would have been very plausible in today's environment.

Summary: Atlantis: An almost lost opportunity
Review: This is Disney's forey into something approaching anime: there are certainly noticeable borrowings from Laputa: The Castle in the Sky and others. Visually, the film is amazing, endlessly beautiful to look at. All the technical aspects are superb, the cast of characters (and the voice actors) first rate. The only problem, and it is a big one. is the frenetic pace of the film: it leaves little opportunity to go in depth into this strange variation of the world of 1914, to absorb it, to revel in its details. They should have spent much more time with the amazing submarine, for instance. Foreign audiences will think Americans have the shortest attention span in the world. Why the rush? There are some fairly complicated plot machinations going on here and viewers might well wonder if the pace is as fast as it is to speed past the holes. It might just be financial. I suspect, though do not know, that the DVD version when it comes up will be longer and richer. That is good, but it would have been nice to see the full movie in the theatre. Still, with all the film's flaws, the directors and artists should be commended. They did about as fine a job as the American film industry would permit in doing a movie in the spirit of anime. This risk taking should be commended and encouraged. If you liked Atlantis, please tell the Disney people. Let them know you want more so this opportunity will be built upon. And tell them they should have made Pearl Harbor 1.5 hours and Atlantis 3 hours.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: I saw ATLANTIS last night, accompanied by my 65 year-old mother, and we both had a great time. No, it's no LION KING or BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, but it's not meant to be either; it's meant to be something different for Disney, and it is. The action scenes are amazing, sometimes evoking for me images from the STAR WARS movies. The dialogue is often sharp, fast and hilarious (maybe a little too fast to follow for younger kids), and lots of our fellow adult audience members were laughing out loud. The voice talent is, as always with Disney, fantastic; Michael J. Fox does a terrific job as Milo, Leonard Nimoy is perfect as the aged Atlantean king, Cree Summer is proud, intelligent and earnest as Princess Kida, and Milo's fellow adventurers are all equally well done. I didn't find the storyline at all difficult to follow, and while the concept of the giant crystal that keeps Atlantis alive is a bit "new-age", I don't think kids will have a problem with it. It's sci-fi, it's fantasy, it's adventure - it's awesome! It's also a whole lot more than what you've seen in the previews and commercials, so go see the movie TODAY! You'll have a great time, and it might just spark your interest in the search for the real (hey, there is intriguing evidence) Atlantis. Adventure lives!

Summary: ok, but needed more
Review: It was an ok movie. It was a lot like Tarzan, where a good guy turns on the main character. the art was good, and that was one of the main reasonses I liked it. it could have been develuped a lot more. It was too short as well. And the love parts wern't develuped enough eather. It bwas a pretty tipical Disney movie. if it was longer and more develuped, I would have liked it a lot more. and the two maine characters didn't even kiss! I mean, what is up with that? owell.

Summary: Very Excellent Movie!
Review: This movie has a great plot and very creative graphics and characters. This is the best movie that I have seen all year so far and recommend that everyone should see it.
