Summary: Great family movie for all ages.
Review: This was the first movie that our family got to see in the movie theatre together. My little special guy was old enough to have the movie theatre experience and he loved it. I loved it too. It is one of my favorite Disney movie along with The Jungle Book and The Aristocats. It appeals to my son because of the introduction of baby Tarzan who he can relate to (the character development is good). Plus he says it is a good movie because of the action and excitement. It appeals to me because it's set in the jungle and has a sense of primal romantism. Tarzan is very cool with moves that are inline with today's surfers and boarders. So Disney has kept it hip on an old classic. Since I do most of these reviews with my kid, he thinks that it deserves the 5 stars rating. I agree, it is a great movie with plenty of lessons, action and excitement for the whole family and Disney has kept Tarzan pretty hip!

Review: Disney has suffered a greed these past few years, and has turned into a money-hungry company that only turns out trash. As a loyal Disney fan, I'm sorry to say that--but its true. But they regained their goodness and poured it all out into TARZAN. Their epic adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroghs' books brings back hope to me; refreshing. As our story begins, Kala's baby and Tarzan's parents are all killed by Sabor, the bloodthirsty lepoard who roams the jungles. Then fate works its magic and Kala rescues Baby Tarzan from him and takes him in as her own. However, Kerjack (the gorillas' leader) is always edgy and never comes to accept Tarzan as a member of the family. Years go by and humans--Jane, her father, and their evil guide, Clayton--appear in the jungle. Tarzan instantly takes interest, and spends less and less time with his ape family, until he decides to accompany Jane on her return trip to England--and leave his jungle home forever. Yes, sure. This is the basic Disney plot--coming-of-age. But what makes TARZAN different is the feeling you get when you watch it. Several times today, while watching this film, I gasped at the visuial effects--this is a wonder. Not choppy and contained, but flawless and free Tarzan almost surfs his way through the jungle. Vivid and perfect--thanks to Glen Keane, who seemingly gave his very soul to TARZAN. The only problem here is with the bonus features on the video: * Excerpt from Disney's DINOSAUR-- Nice preview of DINOSAUR, but this bit is a little too violent for TARZAN's youngest audiences. * Phil Collins "Trashin' The Camp" Recording Session Features 'NSYC and Phil Collins recording special version of "Trashin' The Camp". Nice, but a little dry. * "STRANGERS LIKE ME" Music Video Not impressing. Ruined the mood and feel of the song. * THX Certified Makes the picture and sound quality 10X better, and it's already (without THX, I mean) amazing. So, here are my final words: If you, too, have been disappointed in Disney, see TARZAN--it will remind you of their better side. And it will also amaze you with story, plot, sight, sound, music, voice, character, and mood. CONGRATULATIONS, DISNEY!

Review: My 18 month daughter adores this movie; Her attention is immediately grabbed by the introduction of baby tarzan and from there on in, she's hooked. Phil Collins did an awsome job with the movies' songs, my daughter always clapping and dancing gleefully to them.

Summary: Suffers only in comparison.
Review: Tarzan is easily the best Disney's done since the fantastic Hunchback of Notre Dame. It easily erases the bad feelings I had left over from the wretched Pocahantas, the mildly disappointing Hercules, and the only average Mulan. The visuals in this one are sharp and striking, the new animation techniques stand-out successes and the character designs refreshlingly unique. This Tarzan doesn't look like a bodybuilder, he looks like someone who's spent his life swinging around on vines. The story rumbles down the familiar Disney track, complete with sneering villain, noisy sidekicks (somebody buy Rosie O'Donnel a muzzle, please), death in the family, and all-around whiz-bang happy ending. Its strength is in making this old material fresh and keeping our interest even though we know where the story's going. The only reason I give it 3 stars instead of 4 is it came out the same summer as The Iron Giant. TIG rewrote the rule book and showed what can be done outside the Disney formula, making Tarzan seem timid for staying within it.

Summary: Another disappointment from the post-Walt cartoonists
Review: Why, oh why, do Disney movies have to be so offensive to adults these days? Shouldn't I be allowed to sit and watch a movie with my girlfriend's daughter (or by myself any given rainy day) and actually enjoy it? Tarzan had fantastic animation. The first scene with the elephants bathing especially stands out in my mind. The sound was unbeatable. A friend used this movie to show off his home theatre system and the sound blew me away. Technically I enjoy this movie very much. But it reminded me of Jurrasic Park, a movie with great special effects and rotten everything else. It is not necessary for Disney characters to be one dimensional caricatures. Clayton stands as the achetypical enemy. The professor is a tired rehash of the every absentminded geek thrown onto the screen. And Jane - a more fitting tribute to Victorian stereotypes could not have been made. If Disney continues to put out these types of films, I fear I will find myself repeating, "I don't think so, sweetie. Let's watch Babe again."

Review: I have a five year old nephew. I rented this video one night when I was watching him and he watched it constantly. I sat down and watched later that night, when he was asleep. I was captivated! I think this is the best Disney production for at least 20 years.

Summary: I was pleasantly surprised.
Review: I wasn't all that impressed by the reviews of this little Disney number but then one day in a slow movie week, I decided to go and see it. I loved it! I should have known that Disney would find it impossible to make a dud. Everything about this was just as it should be. Simple, but immensely enjoyable plot; excellent Phil Collins soundtrack (LONG LIVE KING PHIL!); wonderfully lovable and amusing characters, and the horrible mean man who gets it in the end. (YEAH!!) I am going to be adding this one to my collection.

Summary: Wonderful - stupendous
Review: This DVD packs quite a punch, taking full advantage of DVDtechnology. It's what all DVD's should be..loaded with extra stuff (deleted scenes, music videos, "making of", etc.)..not just "fluff". So much so that it will take numerous hours of viewing to get through it all. Quality of the picture is terrific. Well worth the price, especially since I pre-ordered it through Amazon.com and saved a few extra bucks.

Summary: Very cool film
Review: This is both an amazing film and an outstanding DVD. I would love to see Disney continue on this track, and release more "Collector's Edition" sets. I am a big Tarzan fan, and I was blown over by Disney's adaptation. One of the best Tarzan films I have seen. All elements of the film are impressive. The "deep canvas" is beautiful, and the animation is fluid and alive. The character designs are perfect, and the story is a wonderful balance of dark drama and comedy. I love the expressive use of the characters hands. I even liked Rosie O'Donnell, which is very rare for me. I tend to find the comic relief characters annoying. Minnie Driver is outstanding as Jane. The DVD bonus features are great fun. This is the first time I have seen deleted scenes for an animated film. I also really enjoyed the evolution of the various character designs, and the explanation of the "deep canvas" process. If Disney keeps putting them out like this, I will keep buying.
