Summary: Wonderful film!
Review: Okay, okay.....so the movie doesn't follow the book.....the costumes and hair are not exactly the best.....the plot is not what I would consider ingenius....but WHO CARES! This is one of my alltime favorite movies. I love the story and the characters. I think Aramis was one of the best roles that Charlie Sheen has ever played. Oliver Platt is the most entertaining as Porthos, with his "Queen of America" and "Tsarina of Tokyo." Keifer Sutherland's Athos can sometimes be hard to believe, but he pulled it off. Gabrielle Anwar was lovely as Anne, but the king was almost as pretty is she is. Tim Curry plays the bad guy perfectly, even if he is a little unbelievable. I love Porthos and his never ending supply of little weapons. The movie is full of some of the best one-liners I have ever heard. Basically, if you want the real story, read the book. If you want a fun and entertaining "adaption," watch this.

Summary: Hugh O'Conor is NOT dead!
Review: Need to clear this up right now. In an earlier review, someone laments the suicide of Irish actor Hugh O'Conor, who plays King Louis in this film, obviously confusing him with Hugh O'Connor, son of actor Carrol O'Connor. Hugh is alive and well and working on a film in France. Okay.Now, about this movie. If you enjoy endearingly bad movies, then you'll love this one. Please, read a few of the other reviews that point out the flaws of this movie and how it strays from the novel. They are quite right. It really is a quite dismal Disney adaptation saved by some inspired casting. What is remarkably funny now, but may not be in another ten or twenty years, is the casting of Charlie Sheen as Aramis, the womanizing-former priest musketeer; Keifer Sutherland as Athos, the drunken, wronged husband of the Countess de Winter (Rebecca de Mornay in enough black eyeliner to start her own cosmetics line); and an over-the-top performance by Tim Curry as Cardinal Richelieu. Curry's Cardinal is meant to be lusting after the queen, but is so obviously more interested in the far more beautiful King Louis (marvelous Irish actor Hugh O'Conor in an unfortunate wig). The royal couples' clothes fit so badly and look so cheesy, one wonders if there was such a thing as Le K'Marte in 17th century France. Put your feet up and your Dumas under the sofa and enjoy.

Summary: This is a terrible re-make of a wonderful story
Review: This film is terrible! Have the scriptwriters even read the book! It's as if all they have bothered to research is 'All for one and one for all' - which is repeated again and again (even though it is in fact the wrong way round!) There are so many bits missed out so many vital parts of the plot - (there is no diamond studs episode, Constance survives etc) and so many inventions (musketeers disbanded, Rochefort as an ex-musketeer murdering D'artagnan's father etc) The characters are mostly miscasted - mainly because they are all about 10 years younger than they ought to be (or 30 years younger in the case of the king). The are a few comic lines from the Three Musketeers who do their best in an awful movie, and Tim Curry is quite evil but unfortunately has one awful line after another which completely undercut his leering and evil grins. Rebecca DeMournay gives a pretty flat performance as Milady but this is simply because of the appalling script. In most cases the actors are trying their best but with such a film they are doomed to failure. I understand that this is Disney and they want to make a film that children will enjoy that has action and adventure etc. However I fail to see why they have to ruin a masterpiece of a story in order to achieve their aim. As a child I adored the 1949 version with Gene Kelly so there is no reason why the plot has to be changed so much for children to enjoy it. Dogtanian was a brilliant childrens cartoon of the three musketeers which left all of the characters and storyline intact - Why does Disney have to ruin it? It is not even as if the true spirit and honour of the Muskteers and what they stand for, comes across successfully. Having every other character 'All-for-one-ing' all the way through is not the same thing at all. Having a lecherous Cardinal who is more interested in sex than anything else is hardly ideal for a children's film anyway. And what is all that rubbish about the Cardinal inheriting the throne! What sort of rules of succession did Hollywood think existed in France? Children might enjoy this film but I will never show it to mine. Unless of course like me they watch it for a laugh (at it rather than with it) and enjoy nit-picking like I have done. The 2 stars I gave it are merely an indication of how hilariously bad I thought it was.

Summary: Awesome
Review: O.k. so it doesn't exactly refer to the book, but if you think about it most movies/DVD don't follow the storyline correctly. Be that as it may the acting was great, the plot was good, and the scenery was excellent. Yes, it was Disney and they have a way about not telling the whole truth, but it's funny, action-packed, and most of all, the kids and the family enjoyed it. It was a well made movie and it was definetly one I added to my collection.

Summary: A good movie if you did not read the book
Review: As the reviewer of the day said, this movie is nothing like the book, but that does not mean that it is not entertaining. I saw the movie before I read the book, and found it very funny and exciting with ample swashbuckling scenes. After I read the book, I winced whenever I heard Chris O'Donnell speak with an American accent. His impulsive and nature seemed out of place as well (his character was supposed to be the smartest of the group). I would recommend this movie for children who enjoy an adventure, or those who have not read the book, otherwise you might not like it due to its inaccuracies.

Summary: all for one and more for me
Review: there are a ton of things wrong with this movie, but they have all been covered in reviews below. i will make a couple of observations. it does not bother me that they did their own story, only that they changed the characters motivations so much that they very detracted from the book. the script suffers terribly and alot of the time the movie feels like a fluffy version lacking real direction. the movies saving grace is some funny lines, swordplay and wincott as rochefort. his proformance of the cardinals number 1 henchman is worth watching the movie for again and again. a very sinister protrayal. it is an okay action film which has its moments. but dont go in expecting it to be a serious attempt at telling dumas tale.

Review: If you think about it...It's a good Kids movie. It doesn't show right or wrong, It's nothing like The book, it has nothing to do with any of the other movies, The 3 Musketeers cheat when they fence, D'Artagnan's a punk.....What am I saying? Well, it's a good laugh! Maybe you could do Mst3k over it! To say a good thing about it, the acting is ok.

Summary: Poor Alexandre is spinning in his grave...
Review: You have to pity Alexandre Dumas. Just because he has been dead for about 150 years, movie people seem to think that it is OK to completely, thoroughly and decisively ruin his brilliant novels. They one by one ruin each of the four heroes of the Three Musketeers. D'Artagnan is portrayed as a nice 90's kid in a bad wig who, golly gosh gee, just wants to be a hero. He wanted to be hero in the book too but he wasn't so cloying about it. Athos is an angst ridden Gen-Xer. When he is not tossing his hair dramatically, he is making eyes as Milady. Porthos is your typical 90's comedy relief, just a nice fun guy. Aramis is a lecherous weirdo. Honestly, do you believe for one second that this guy is serious about religion? In the book, he was deadly serious. He kept his love affairs discreet too, thank heaven. The movie is wraught with cliches. The escape secen is lifted from Bill & Ted's Excellant Adventure if you can believe it. Watch them back to back and see for yourself! The dialogue is cringe inducing. The costumes are inaccurate. Check out the tiny braid on Milady, so early 90s! Most of the actors are years too old. As I recall, the oldest of the lot was Athos in his late 20's, thirty at most. Read the review below for a list of innaccuracies. All I can say is, kids, if you need to write a book report on the 3 Musketeers, this movie will make you flunk it! Better just read the book. All this movie will give you is an education in early 90s pop culture
