Summary: A very inspiring movie!
Review: I was born and raised on Borneo Island, much like Tonga. I appreciate such movie like this because, thanks to missionaries like Groberg, a lot of people including my greatgrandparents were saved and became Christians. There is really no gift greater than salvation. Thousands of children got to attend missionary schools, again, thanks to missionaries like Groberg. Groberg is one of the many missionaries who, for centuries, had travelled millions of miles to spread the Word of God and saving people's lives. I thank the people who were responsible for making this movie. It is so rare to see this type of family movies made these days where most others glorify violence and sex...

Summary: I've seen this twice and liked it both times.
Review: This movie had me riveted and it stuck with me. The acting was very good, it had humor, memorable imagery, touching moments (got teared up a bit, I admit) and a great spirtual message. It's based on the true story of John Grohberg's mission to Tonga, but doesn't appeal only to Mormons, with its Mormon protagonist. The message is universal and there is no uniquely Mormon doctrine to make people of other faiths uncomfortable. It's not recommended for very young kids as some scenes are quite inappropriate for them. I recommend this to anyone who is tired of Hollywood filth and is spiritual.

Summary: I cannot believe I wasted 73 minutes of my life on this horr
Review: My 11 year old sister could've written a better script, and I bet she could've filmed it and acted it out better, too. The plot is absolutely laughable, the story is not compelling or captivating in any manner, and most of the funny scenes are not that way on purpose. Even the kids couldn't stomach this one. I had to sit through the painful 73 minutes, you don't have to! RUN away from this STINKER!

Summary: Book is a Million Times Better
Review: I had made the mistake of reading the book, In the Eye of the Storm by Groberg, before I saw the movie. The movie only showed some of the crazy things that happened to Elder Groberg on his mission. It left out all of the personal and spiritual growth that he went through and how he came to love the gospel and the people more than himself. The movie was nice, but Disney did not want to insult any of their viewers and left out the most important aspects that made John Groberg's experiences so amazing. The movie was ok, but I highly recommend the book to anyone.

Summary: A Culturally Insensitive and Misleading Movie
Review: I have been married to a Tongan for nine years now, so was looking forward to seeing a movie about Tonga. However, before I could even rent the movie, our island friends began telling us how awful the movie is. Aside from the friendliness of the Tongan people, everything else is misrepresented.

First, no one from there that I've talked to knows anything about rats eating people's feet. How rediculous! Are we really supposed to believe islanders sleep with their shoes on?

Second, before Mormonism arrived, most islanders were Methodists. The movie makes it look like they were all pagans (except for the only really evil person portrayed in the movie, the minister, who later apologizes to the missionary).

Third, especially in the 1950's, dating consisted of going to the girl's house and talking with her and her parents. The idea of girls going onto a boat to sell themselves for alchohol to unknown white men while their brothers, fathers, uncles, and cousins stand by unable to stop them is laughable.

Fourth, the funeral scene where a lady falls on her dead son is disgusting. She is rolled of the child's body. Then she appears to announce, "Where's the pudding?" with all smiles. The missionary is the only only who knows how to act at a funeral. I have been to many funerals and they are very respectful. Why is this man making a mockery of the culture?

The worst part of the whole disgusting movie is that the missionary claims this is a true story. There is a reason the movie used Cook Islanders. Tonga wanted nothing to do with this movie.

Summary: Worst Movie
Review: I thought this movie was the dumbest thing ever made! No wonder it never hit the theaters. All they did was treat sick people on a little island. Someone was either hurt or dying in this movie. And I thought that Anne Hatheway was supposed to be in it more than 10 minutes. And when she was in it all she wore were white outfits. Also I thought this movie was rated PG. I don't have anything against PG or PG-13 movies but they were showing blood gushing out of these guys feet and I thought it was pretty sick. So whoever you are DO NOT get this movie. It's the worst ever. And thank you to whoever is reading this and take my advice.

Summary: More Morman Deception!
Review: This film is a Mormon film that hides the fact that it is Mormon until well into the movie. Nowhere in it is Morman theology espoused at all. There is no mention of Joseph Smith or the Book of Mormon. There is nothing on the cover that says it's Mormon. It deceptivly portrays Mormonism as an Evangelical Christian denomination. Why do all the cults have to try and deceive people? Why not just be up front about who they are and what they believe. Stay away from this one!

Summary: Good movie but ...
Review: For the most part I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. At least the first time around. After that I noticed something that I overlooked in the first viewing. The main character is supposed to be John Groberg, but as protagonists go he breaks one of the cardinal rules of storytelling, in that the protagonist is supposed to be the most compelling character. In the scene where the rich man with the yacht is taking girls onboard his ship the Protestant minister, and the LDS Branch President protest, but Elder Groberg stands by and does nothing. I also felt that the cutting between the scene onboard with the ship and the baptismal scene took much away from the power that the baptismal scene could have had. It seemed to me that the makers were a little afraid to show what Mormon culture was like in the islands. LDS filmmakers need to create stories and films of this quility, but not be afraid to show the LDS culture. (But don't go overboard as other LDS filmmakers have.)

Summary: An Incredible Journey
Review: Please, Please, Please...this is not the forum for Mormon Bashing! This movie is about a young man serving a mission...who just happens to be Mormon. He could've been from any other faith and the story would have equal impact. It is a moving, wonderful tale of a young man's journey into a culture he was unfamilior with, but embraced with all of his soul at the end of his mission. It is a wonderful story of faith, strength and standing up for what you believe. It is a good story for anyone who believes in a God above. The focus should be on the story, not on his religion. It is an inspirational tale for all!
